A new dark Theme for WinCustomize

First alternative theme for WinCustomize - a skin for our skinning site.

Thursday, February 11, 2010 by zigboom | Discussion: New Releases

Hi

Have you ever wished there would be some alternative themes for our beloved site?

Most likely you did, after all we all love skinning and using alternative themes for our applications.

Not sure if you know already, but there is a way to skin websites, it's called "Stylish" for Firefox.

Stylish is an Add-on for Firefox that let's the user apply various styles to existing websites.

There are many styles (themes) for popular sites such as Google, Facebook etc.

It's one of the coolest Add-ons I know that let you style your web, quite futuristic.

The paradox is, there is no theme for Wincustomize, our beloved site that is one of the biggest skinning communities.

Well, there wasn't until today.

I took the mission to make the first alternative dark theme for WinCustomize and Wincustomize Beta.

It's optimized mostly for the beta site but works on both so when the beta will become the main site it'll work the same.

To use it you'll need to install Stylish add on for Firefox from here -  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108

Then to apply the style, just one click on "Install with Stylish" here -  http://userstyles.org/styles/25121

Hope you'll enjoy it,

comments are welcome.

Thanx for trying Fuzzy Logic. The existing dark theme is only for the forums (and it doesn't remember so you have to reactivate it every time). I exluded the forum page from my theme anyway so it won't interfere. Anyway, that's what gave me the idea in the first place, I've already made some UserStyles, always wanted to do WB, thought it's too difficult (it is quite). Anyway the new forum theme motivated me to get it done.

You must have been reading my mind!

I use Stylish and I read your comment on the post about the 'dark' option in the WC beta and tried to email you to see whether you had done one already for WC - but you're not set up to accept emails.

Then I see this, awesome, going to go check it out right now!

Thanks Kitty!! Always nice to hear from you. Happy to share some skinning news and my work of course. Stylish is so cool!!! If you got it already...check out the skins they have in userstyles.org, some really cool Facebook, Google, Hotmail skins etc. Looking forward to see your Tim-Burtonish style ... You're welcome to base it on my Style, the code is open-source anyway and you can start from any existing theme. Hope I'm starting a new trend in our community Maybe a new Gallery...

Thanks for the feedback karmat. I guess it was a big wave of thought that I read ... I thought about it few times in the past but never did a full style for a website, then I searched userstyles.org and saw it doesn't exist...The dark forum theme (and the telepathy of course) was the trigger. I didn't know I'm not set for exepting emails by the way, had same problem trying to contact other users. It's a shame the option is so hidden(if it exists at all). Any idea how to activate it?

I can imagine all the web becomes beautifully gothic when you'll get into it would be really cool! You know, it's possible even to replace the images and use images stored in imageshack etc ... It's quite difficult to do so but with the help of tools like DOM inspector, it can be done. There's no limit to what can be done with Stylish...I'm thinking to redesign the images for the next version just for fun and the challenge of it.

I've been able to email others by clicking on 'Email User' on their homepage. When I tried to email you, I had tried it by clicking on your name in this post, and clicking on Email User. But I just tried the same thing with the others that have posted on this page, and I get the same message. So. I guess that option doesn't work (maybe in the beta) and I should have used Send Private Message instead.

Thanks for the feedback karmat. I guess it's a bug in the new beta site. Anyway, you're right, PM should work (but it only shows when the user visits the forums). Anyway, you're welcome to email me anytime, you can find my contact on my site - zigboom.com. I'll be happy to stay in touch.

Hi I.R.Brainiac, good to see you here. I love your work by the way. Let me know what you think about my userstyle. You probably know how hard it is to make a style that works fluently on a site. I hope I managed to get close enough. Looking forward to hear more feedback.
