Stardock DeviantArt Group
Join the group and show off.
Friday, February 5, 2010 by JukEboXAuDiO | Discussion: Community
The latest awesomeness from DeviantArt has given us the Groups ability. I started one called Stardockers for those who have a DeviantArt account I encourage you to join up and submit your latest submissions.
I am looking for help to make it better and to help manage it. I also thought it would be a great place to show scraps or betas of skins and such.
Check it out and tell me what you think.

But are any called 'Microsofters' or 'Sonyians' ?
In the end, shouldn't it be the company's decision on how they want their name used? Even stock-artists on DA list their permission guidleines from where it can be used to how: to how credit is given to how they are to be notified it is being used. I don't see anything wrong with any corporate entity wanting to control how their name is used. You would think a 'fan' of that entity would respect that.
I haven't even gotten into the stuff about names being hijacked for money. Suppose Stardock wanted to start a group on Deviantart e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.

and as such I'd have to say that simply using the company name will not automatically imply affiliation.

No, they're actually simply "Microsoft" or "Sony", which technically would imply affiliation in even greater extent.
I'll just drop the issue, it's perfectly clear that it's not what I feared it was. Though "Stardockians"? "Stardock fans" sound a lot more affiliated than that. ![]()

Just checked the information about changing the name. THis is what I got.
<shuttermonkey>JukEboXAuDiO: Sorry but that is not an available function. (Smile)" src="//e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/smile.gif" alt="

You can deactivate the account and start another one.

Will find out about deactivation. But As far as I understand no it can't be. Also I have sent a better understanding of "Stardockers" to Jafo and I am working with him.
P.S. Never introducing ideas to this community again. Only because they are either wildly unpopular or noone cares.

This idea was very innovative and I can tell that your intentions were only good. I respect you and your idea and I hope you will continue to offer ideas in the future. I don't think anyone disliked your idea, it was just a conflict of rules and policies. Personally, I would love to see a bridge between stardock and deviantart, but I guess that's up to them..........we can only suggest it.
Once again, please do not be discouraged by the feedback in this thread. I would assume that you only did this as a favor to the community, and for this reason I thank you. Let me just say that being a student in biological sciences, I always have ideas shot down and rejected but this only provides more motivation to continue thinking.

The 'bridge' has always been there. The earliest members of Wincustomize.com are also the earliest members of Deviantart.com.
We share the same ancestry....![]()
Example...
| NickName | Real Name | AccountID | CustomerID | Country | Website | |||
| jark | Scott Jarkoff | 28 | xxxxx | xxxxx | UNITED STATES |
Hint....note the UserID number....[hopefully you all know who jark is]...![]()

Using Facebook as some form of justification is fraught with peril....it's merely an online social disfunction therapy group site.....
It's a bit like saying...."wow...there are lots of prisoners in jail...ergo crime must be socially acceptable as it's clearly so popular."
It's ALL about the specific choice of name.
"Stardockians' is akin to 'General Motors Workers', not 'General Motors Car Club'...and even the latter isn't quite Legit as the appropriate title would be more like 'General Motors Drivers' Club' or 'General Motors Owners' Club'.
Again, 'Fans of Stardock' should be no problem...
