1. ah, grasshopper, while you may accept a car without tires for free, would you buy one without tires?
2. ah, grasshopper, you say you're a master of the windowblinds, prove it. (just kidding, all of the masters have proven their ability to skin just about anything)
I wonder how the percentage of windows OS users have changed in the recent months (to lazy to check) but the last I saw XP had something like 60% of the market share. I was shocked but then again....
upgrade is listed at $184 and new is listed at $274, didn't check if they were 64bit.

Although, personally, I think that's rather hypocritical since Stardock is phasing out XP support for a lot of their software.
I went to the link and read all comments could not make a comment their post is locked.
Beings, the Master skins was brought up here.
I will post here quoting from that post
Why did I say what I did on here? Because we are discussing a skin that people pay for. This is not a free skin. It is a Master skin. It should be as artistically and technically perfect as possible. Style has nothing to do with it- people's tastes are all different. But love or hate a design, a Master skin needs to exude quality.
If Stardock is telling Mater Skinners that they have to include XP because it is not free then why has Stardock abandoning XP an not supporting it as they have to focus their attention on the NEW OS Se7en.. I say IF XP users are paying $$ then shouldn't Stardock be making the app's to work in XP too and not sunset them. 60% is a hell of a lot of users, to abandon at least keep doing it for XP till 2014 like MS.
you know not even half of the 60% will even move from XP by 2014 which I would have to say If XP users are smart then they would not renew their Sub to Object Desktop or the separate one A.K.A WindowBlinds, CursorFX etc. that said. That is a lot of $ Stardock COULD lose out on
My point is Telling Master Skinners that they HAVE to include XP… but Stardock is not going to focus in XP.
This should be up the Master Skinner to include or not to and that should go for XP, Vista, or Se7en…

It would be if one were selling on their own time \ site.

What time machine do you have that allows you to so boldly make such a claim? No one knows what kind of flow will happen as there are far too many variables to consider.
Reply #69 Monday, February 1, 2010 12:26 PM
I believe that is only if it's a Master Skin. I would also think that once Stardock drops support for XP, that would no longer apply.
Reply #70 Monday, February 1, 2010 1:05 PM
it called a reality time machine

I don't know, DC....up until just 3 months ago when a friend of her's passed on his old laptop, my daughter was still running Windows 98.
In hard times, a person has to make due, and at least from where I live, things aren't going to get a whole lot better in the foreseeable near future. If I didn't HAVE to have my computer for my job, I'd be on XP.

Plenty of folks who can afford and have 7.. still use XP... for many reasons, not the least of which is being able to do a much more comprehensive job of customizing.
Including myself. ![]()
Provide a better skinning experience and many more would be willing to give Seven a chance I bet.

What? That is what I was saying... did you even read my post # 66
More people are using XP and MORE than likely more will still be using XP in 2014 than any other OS
---
1] To be telling Master Skinners that they have to include XP is just not right (TO ME)
2] And then Stardock is Stopping to include XP (the to just clash 1 and 2)
I myself want the Master Skinners to include XP 7 Vista but it should be up them
---
Including myself.
NOTE I was not stating that 7 should be the only OS for master skinners to skin…
OR that everyone needs to go out and get 7…
OR that I COULD predict THE future…
The only THING I was pointing out is
1] To be telling Master Skinners that they HAVE to include XP is just not right (TO ME)
2] Stardock is stopping to include XP but telling Master Skinner’s to include XP
3] Stardock Should support XP a lest till 2014 as for … MicroSoft is or they say they will
---
NO I don’t have a so called time machine… so let’s not be rude and state BS like that… So if I state this there will people use 95, 98 in the year 2014 I must have I time machine.

What is interesting is that it really doesn't matter what OS people run. They run what works for them.
Just way to much discussion on things like this and what browser people run. Really, come on. ![]()

although I haven't heard anything (?) there seems to be an implication in this thread that WC will be dropping their support of XP..what exactly?
I'm using vista so I wouldn't be aware if you all were having some problems, are you? I remember when WC dropped support for ie6, nary a word beforehand but these wouldn't be the same kind of issue. one's a browser and the other is an os, a very still popular os. even ms had to put off stopping support of xp for the same kind or reasoning, have they yet.
One might think that any new win7 users are probably ex-vista users and there will be those xp'ers that upgrade and dual boot with xp/win7.
anyhow, skinners are going to skin for what they will, so...

All i can say is SD is entitled to require whatever they want from their skinners. Doesn't really matter whether its right or not.
If the skinner doesn't like it, they don't have to make the skins or can choose to do their business elsewhere.

To say that in excess of 30% of the existing users will still be using XP 4 years from now is something entirely different than saying "there will be people using it 4 years from now". That is the reference I was making. You have no method what so ever ( other than a time machine ) to quantify the amount of users that will be using it 4 years from now.
Wasn't meant to be rude at all, so don't take offense to it ok.. ![]()

I understand you can install 7 from a USB. Google it for the particulars.
THANKS for that bit of info.
I've found a tool to do just that at THIS PLACE.
No problem Hoosier.
