After a dynamic development period, HoverDesk rel. 2.40 is now publically available. HoverDesk 2.40 contains many new features and additions to existing features. Several are unique visual effects not found in other software. Others are new system access tools and organization tools. New features in 2.40 are: - Autodetection of screen resolution (optional user setting).
- Drop Shadow and Outline text effects for tiles, menu entries and task tiles.
- Skinable / Stretchable Systray with optional drop shadows for icons.
- New HoverDesk theme manager with integtrated export and snapshot generator, wallpaper manager and more.
-Expandable applications list. (User option for adding specific applications to configuration dialog drop-down choices)
- New pop-up menu entries available for Common Program Menu / Common Startup Menu (NT) / My Images / Quicklaunch folders.
- Taskbar features: Auto Reorganization (no more gaps), New Hover texture.
- Recipient Tiles: Folder or .exe targets for drag-n-drop file management or launching.
- Theme De-bug feature for checking and fixing tile associations.
- Built-in Memory Defrag (CPU module
- Windows XP compatable.

Not only is HVD even more functional now, the default theme (SimpleStuff) is absolutely gorgeoous. Everybody should give this version a try. You won't regret it.

I like Hoverdesk's simpicity but Idespise two things about it more than anything. Themes are not resolution independent (many rely on carefully crafted backgrounds) and the themes are not setup with sharing in mind; paths and applications are hard-coded. These are problems that plague many theming environments for Windows, however, but it seems to be amplified with HD.

Stubear, HVD is now resolution independent, however, it's still up to the theme author to implement that feature into his/her theme (much like LS). The second problem you listed is obsolete. I don't even recall HVD having that problem in the past, but it's definitely not an issue now. It's running every one of my apps right after the install without any need for making changes. Of course, you will always have a theme author that has all of his apps installed on drive "D" or something. But even that is a quick fix. And making any changes is a snap, no 'hard-coding ' is involved. It sounds like you need to have another look at HVD. It's much better than you remember it to be.
