Have stardock abandoned Vista?

Sunday, December 20, 2009 by ThoriumKnight | Discussion: Personal Computing

I did notice a few much welcomed new settings in skinstudio 7 (in the start menu section), I tested them out, and most of them ONLY WORK IN WINDOWS 7, even some of the ones labelled with a Vista logo, for example:

All programs mode (Has a VISTA icon next to it)
Settings in the "Bottom bar" section:
Search field height
Search field width adjustment

I've been waiting for these features since I got WB6 for the first time.

I've never used Vista as my OS in the first place.

They were talking to Stardock, though they weren't very clear on that.

I used to use Vista with WB 6 and was using WB 7 with Vista as well until I upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bit).  Other than normal beta issues, WB 7 has worked fine with both.  Some skins have settings for a particular OS.  For example, the one I use has settings for XP, Vista and Windows 7.  You might try applying the ones for Vista and see if that helps or tweak some of your settings.  Of course, Windows 7 is the current operating system now so if finances permit, you might want to upgrade from Vista.  I think you will be very pleased.  It's very stable and I am spending far less time under the hood these days.

You are quite right. It looks like mislabeling to me. Those sections should have the win7 logo next to them not the vista logo.

I'll probably switch to 7 next time I'm up for reformatting the computer anyways. Although maybe not, don't really have any interest in buying it, doesn't come cheap.

I don't believe that the intent of this thread was a poll of who likes Vista or Win7. It might be a good idea to actually read the OP before filling up the thread with off topic comments.

The title:

Have you abandoned Vista?

The OP was just a sharing of experiences. Unless you'd like everyone  to answer just "yes" or "no", then explaining why they have or have not abandoned Vista would be expected. As such, comments of whether we like Vista or 7 are completely on topic.  Your post however (and of course, this one because of it), is pointless.

THIS WHOLE THREAD IS POINTLESS

The title:
Have you abandoned Vista?

The title is usually just the eye catcher to get you to read "the rest of the original post!"  Which if read entirely reveals what the thread is about and you get the whole picture. So...it's....Have you abandoned Vista?...in SkinStudio 7!  So Tim's post is spot on. Moving on now.

I do believe that Giz and 2of3 are correct in believing this post was more for the devs@ SD. In asking if they have abandoned Vista since there are items in SKS that seem to look like they work for vista but only work on win7.

Perhaps the tittle of the thread needs to be changed.

Have you abandoned Vista -> Have Stardock abandoned Vista

The title and location that this thread was posted in was not ideal as I ignored it as I assumed it was a thread about people asking if they were still on Windows Vista or not.

Regarding the All Programs start menu section, this appears to be a bug in WB as it should be supporting it, but there seems to be something stopping it from applying it currently.

Naturally most new sections would apply to Windows 7 only as Windows 7 added new features which needed to be skinned.  Features which Windows Vista does not have such as the new taskbar settings, the expanding startmenus and other new start menu sections.

Suggest a suitable title for above passage.
