Windows XP skins section added

Thursday, October 25, 2001 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

With today being the launch of Windows XP, it only seems fitting that we (WINcustomize) do something special. To that end we've created a new category called "WinXP Skins". WindowBlinds UIS skins that have been optimized for XP will be displayed there. For skin authors - when you upload your skin, upload them to the WindowBlinds section and it will ask if your skin has been optimized for Windows XP. If you have, select yes and it will appear in both the WB section and the WinXP skins section. WinXP skins require WindowBlinds 3.

Cool, what about IconPackager with XP icons (with transparency/shadows...) in them. Could they be placed in there too?

I's still love to get my hands on a little instruction for how to optimize skins for XP--how to skin the Start Panel, how fonts are controled in the "XPstuff" file, etc. I can't make heads nor tails of it in the skins I've downloaded, and I can't find a good tutorial for it.

Anyway, I think the separate section is a great idea. And I cast my vote for the IP section for XP-optimized icons, too.

Hi Alexandrie, if Pixtudio wants to create an article on skinining the XP Start bar, I'll have the site link to it.

i still can't understand what are the differences between WB3 for XP or WB3 for WIN9x...are they different skin format ? are they features that we can't get with Win9x and what ? Are they two versions of WB3 coming out, one for XP, one for WIN9x ?

I'm just sure that i won't upgrade to Win XP till a long time, so i would like to know what i'm about to get with WB now...

And in a last point and as a message for the skinners, it would be great to update their skins with the new features of WB ... (just think about Polymer, all Treetog big suites and so on...)

Sorry, here the last point for Stardock : just try to think about the non-english people...things are enough hard to understand in our own language, so just imagine it with a foreign one (even if i can manage a little with it ...)

neophil78,
WindowBlinds 3 works on 98, ME, 2000 and XP. Skins can be "optimized" for XP because XP has different capabilities since it is designed to be skinned (visual styles). There is no difference in the program (WindowBlinds 3) or the skin format that it uses for the different versions of Windows.

Just a though, I like the WinXP look as much as the text guy, but currently all the skins in the XP section are XP clones ...!
