destructive comments
Thursday, November 5, 2009 by Vampothika | Discussion: Community
I would like to post my distaste to recent comments on my master skin Saboteur. Calling my work "not master skin quality" is below the belt. Especially when it is a drive by comment and the skin has not even been downloaded.
I think if you are going to comment on any skin, it should be at least downloaded and tested before inacurate comments and assumptions are made.
I personally believe that if you have nothing constructive to say about a skin, then please say nothing at all.
I spend many weeks and hours on every skin I do. I pour passion, talent, and knowledge into them. They are tested in every possible way that a skin can be tested, and only then is it submitted. The same goes for cursors, icons, and any matching accessory I make.
I can handle criticism, but only if it is constructive, and accurate based on the downloading of the skin itself.

A skin needs XP support to be considered a master skin? Imho that's ridiculous. I can understand if Windows 7 support would be required as it's the most recent version of the OS, but as long as compatibility is clearly stated in the description, any legacy compatibility should be optional.
Ofcourse, I'm not Stardock and ultimately it's whoever is in charge there who dictate the rules... Just stating my opinion.
Coming into a thread pointing a finger at her IN PUBLIC like that is really a hit below the belt. YOU as moderators passed that skin, if you agree with someone complainig it's not "up to standard" it's YOUR failure.

*messiah gives ID a big, stinky, monkey hug. In a manly, non-gay way. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I love Kitty's work. Her Master ststus is well deserved. I would have bought this skin if it was for XP and Win7. Cash is tight these days, why would I buy something I can't us on all my computers?

agreed, needing to support a specific OS is a lame requirement. As for XP, hell even Microsoft stopped primary support for that thing, although extended support ends 2014...
having the compatnability of the OS'es in the description should be sufficient.

Is multiple legacy compatibilty a requirement of which masters are formally advised?

You know, I'm sick of all this bickering. Great way to divide a community.
What's the matter with you people? What are you all, infants?

This debate is one that has been ongoing since i first joined the skinning communities. It's funny how the times change but topics stay the same.
I try not to post comments that are generic if i don't like something. Most of the time i just don't say anything. But if you're going to post your work on a site that allows comments then you need to grow a thicker skin. You should read some of the posts on the PlayStation blog... talk about hateful and ugly.
There was nothing wrong with the comment "this isn't master quality" because its simply one person's opinion. Honestly I agree. I don't think its good enough to sell. The icons are extremely weak. You can't see anything of the theme. And the wallpapers are just blah. Now you can call that constructive or destructive but the bottom line is... it's just my opinion. Doesn't mean i'm right.
I think you should take the criticism and use it to drive you to get better as an artist. You will never please everybody so if you're shooting for that you'll be disappointed. But you definitely need to grow a thicker skin if you're going to stay in the "game".
For those people saying XP is a dying OS. You're so wrong. It's still dominant and will stay dominant for a few more years. Not supporting an OS with the marketshare XP has is just bad business.
PS. Insect Music isn't bad. I'd say keep it up. Practice doesn't make perfect but it does make better ![]()
PPS. I forgot the wallpapers aren't part of it. You should have credited the original artist and told him. Even though it's not being sold with the theme you are using his art to promote a commercial theme. It's just the right way to do it.
PPPS. And there's no rule that someone has to give constructive criticism. They can simply say they don't like it. It's just nicer when they aren't rude about it. Someone saying "this sucks" is being rude. Someone saying "i don't think this is quality" is not.
Is it PPS or PSS?

It's not "lame" considering over 60% of WINCUSTOMIZE users are still on XP. If the majority uses the OS, it needs to be supported.
Why did I say what I did on here? Because we are discussing a skin that people pay for. This is not a free skin. It is a Master skin. It should be as artistically and technically perfect as possible. Style has nothing to do with it- people's tastes are all different. But love or hate a design, a Master skin needs to exude quality.
Now, for the "mean" remarks in general- if you put yourself in the spotlight to call out people that you think are being "mean" to you, then you are putting yourself in the spotlight for all the comments that will follow. If you want to be private about your issues, keep them to PM, otherwise, it's assumed that you want the issue public.

It's "PPS" (post-post-script).

Ok thanks Warren
I thought maybe it was Post Script Script. But it makes sense since you're posting more than once.

I guess the "in the future: preface to what I said was lost.
We try to give everyone a few "get out of jail free" cards. That's why we say "in the future" when saying what the "future" work should include.

WOW ,
Is this is how all master skinners at wincustomize are treated?, Or everyone else who try,s?, because if you do,
NOT sure I want to purchase, support or pour money into a site or community where (what I can see) more than half the comments are unprofessional, destructive, unsupportive and generaly distasteful for anyone to have to put up with.
She will come back from this stonger ,better and greater than ever .
If my opinion count,s ,and it probably does,nt ,move on.

I'm not lokcing the thread. If I do it's because it gets out of hand, no because of your "opinoins".
