destructive comments
Thursday, November 5, 2009 by Vampothika | Discussion: Community
I would like to post my distaste to recent comments on my master skin Saboteur. Calling my work "not master skin quality" is below the belt. Especially when it is a drive by comment and the skin has not even been downloaded.
I think if you are going to comment on any skin, it should be at least downloaded and tested before inacurate comments and assumptions are made.
I personally believe that if you have nothing constructive to say about a skin, then please say nothing at all.
I spend many weeks and hours on every skin I do. I pour passion, talent, and knowledge into them. They are tested in every possible way that a skin can be tested, and only then is it submitted. The same goes for cursors, icons, and any matching accessory I make.
I can handle criticism, but only if it is constructive, and accurate based on the downloading of the skin itself.

Again, I'm the bad guy for saying something about it. So be it.
No. You became the bad guy because of the way you said it. There's a difference.
Every time an opinion is posted, there's a person reading it. If you write it as an attack, it'll be interpreted that way. You could easily just have pointed out the issue without yelling plagiarism.
It's not just you though, it's common all over the internet. There's a huge difference between criticism and accusal. Posting criticism is fine, but the kind of accusations people tend to post (claiming it's criticism) is just not right.

I never intended my accusation to be criticism. It was an accusation. Period. I did post about not having a decent screenshot, one in which the majority of the skin parts could be seen. That was criticism. I know my accusation should have been put into a Private Message. But I didn't feel like it this time. I'd had enough and said something about it. Something others may have wanted to say but didn't because they are afraid of getting bashed, or maybe hurting their reputation on here or their chances at promotion...whatever.
In the end, I don't care what anyone thinks of me on these forums. The people that know me, know me. I speak my mind, I say what I want to say be it on a forum, or face to face. Whether you like it or not.
I don't have a vendetta against vampothkittymaloneika. I'm not out to get her. Normally, I don't comment on her skins even though I do download them to check them out. Why? Because she thinks I'm out to get her. So if I leave any type of constructive criticism, there's a possibility that she'll be having a bad day and assume that I'm out to get her. So I usually stay away.
But then she puts up this crybaby post calling attention to herself. Well, she got some attention didn't she. Not exactly what she wanted though. One possible good thing that came from this post is a few people maybe understand a little better about using resources and crediting the authors if they request credit.
Vampothika, I will never again comment on any of your skins, or your other threads. That, I'm sure, will make you happy, but I do this for the sake of the community, not for you.

Yet people will look at a picture of a (insert any fast food item here) and marvel at the appetizing look of it. When they get it home it has the thumbprints of the cook embeded in the bun. The cheese is half on the sandwich and half running down the side of the bun. The meat is cold and the lettuce is hot and brown. The french fries appear to have been used as rectal thermometers at some point in their already long life, and your soda is so out of mix that all you taste is carbonated water.
They eat it anyway and go back for more in the future. All while having spent twice as much as what these master windowblinds cost. Truely amazing...

Where are you eating man?
It's not a burger we are talking about here. The old SS is an exact representation of what the theme looks like applied. It doesn't change after applying, like meshugga said. Anyone with any graphical sense can judge a theme enough by it's screenshot to realize how good it is or isn't. It doesn't have to be bought and then applied to figure out they don't like it. And to say that someone who isn't a master can't judge a skins quality is retarded. (That comment isn't attributed to Phoon)

What a palaver....
Yes...I agree...it's really pathetic....your whole ugly diatribe...
You know Karen...I purchased vStyler's entire collection of masterskins for you...after reading your comment that you couldn't afford to buy skins...and you could 'only read about other people enjoying their toys they had downloaded'....I felt for you...you were showing enthusiasm and some individualism in your skinning....so I purchased them all...except for Odyssey, as I didn't think it would be up your alley...so vStyler threw that in himself, and I asked him to pm you the links anonymously. I read your reply to him...and was glad it had given you such a lift. I thought you were shaping up to be an interesting new skinner...and worthy of encouragement and that pulling apart some top notch skins, that you apparently had no access to purchasing, would help you along.
You have also benefited from his skinning expertise...which is always given out to skinners...generously. He has helped you in the forums....with advice and critique...made a start menu and texture to help you on your way with one of your skins......so, to spew out that unfounded venomous diatribe....is profoundly disappointing........sounds like you're doing some 'parroting' of your own...
Sadly, your skinning will hold no interest for me in the future...and you have more expertise in these matters to judge that, than Tom?
that's very funny...and yes...it is an opinion....and one he, and anyone else, has the right to express.
If I go shopping for an outfit.....I have every right to check it out in the window...decide if I like the style/colour etc....and observe if it is made to my satisfaction before purchasing it. If I go into the shop and say to the owner, after closer inspection...but before trying it on....I don't particularly like the stitching and the finishing on this article....she doesn't spit back at me....'what would you know...you're not a dressmaker'.......The masterskin is a whole different ball game from a freebie...you have to take criticism...offer answers back to potentional customers...in short...be professional....not treat the place like a schoolyard...and go running to the teachers because you thought the boys weren't fair....which is really...what this whole post amounts to.
There is not one nasty comment in that gallery to have justified all this crap, especially when you look at some of the comments in times gone by....there was detailed critique & personal opinion.....so...best to just take that on board and move on without the drama....
so...you're seriously trying to say that you had no idea that it is wrong to pass other people's work off as your own, especially after all the years at this site..

Actually, I don't find that hard to believe at all. Can't walk around being smart all our lives... We 're all all act like idiots in quite a huge lot of situations during our lifespan.

Some still don't get it, intentionally or not.
People can criticize skins, it's the coordinated effort "behind the scenes" that is the problem.

Phoon, there's still one in Wabash

It's all Skinhit's fault, I tell ya! HE'S the one to blame.
Reply #114 Friday, November 6, 2009 11:25 AM
I would like to note that all you get in the download is the .wba file. I can't find any related content. If there are supposed to be icons and a wall, the people who purchase it are not getting it.
For the record, Vampothika, you will need to up your game if you want to continue to get Master skins approved. You will need to provide XP support and create works that are as good, if not better, than what are in your gallery.
Also, for Master skins ALL art has to be owned by you. Create all your own work and then you don't have to worry about "accidentally" infringing somebody else's right.

Yeah right, it's a big conspiracy. What's the saying? Put up or shut up?
Reply #118 Friday, November 6, 2009 11:39 AM
I didn't accuse you, so don't be so defensive. It's a general statement, mmmm'kay. So my advice would be to let it go. ![]()

I didn't say you did, but you keep saying that. I'm the only one that said anything like that in this thread, so if you aren't accusing me, who are you accusing and why? I see the "end it now" advice, which means that this thread is probably soon to be locked because the mods/admins don't like what's being said or called out. I guess I should just get back up in my f-ing tree, like the song says right?

"Po' Smedley For President"
"Blame Skinhit"
These are sentiments mirrored in teh eternal artistic works of Moe, Larry and Curley.
Even Mohandas K. Ghandi (the Mahatma) was quoted (when being arrested in South Africa) as having said, "I do not blame Jan Smuts. I blame skinhit."
So, in the interests of peace all over the world (I have sent M. Abbas and B. Netanyahu telegrams suggesting they comply and so has Hillary), non-violence and economic recovery (as well as preventing swine flu):
"Blame Skinhit.... Yes We Can!"
