destructive comments

Thursday, November 5, 2009 by Vampothika | Discussion: Community

I would like to post my distaste to recent comments on my master skin Saboteur.  Calling my work "not master skin quality" is below the belt. Especially when it is a drive by comment and the skin has not even been downloaded.

I think if you are going to comment on any skin, it should be at least downloaded and tested before inacurate comments and assumptions are made.

I personally believe that if you have nothing constructive to say about a skin, then please say nothing at all.

I spend many weeks and hours on every skin I do.  I pour passion, talent, and knowledge into them. They are tested in every possible way that a skin can be tested, and only then is it submitted. The same goes for cursors, icons, and any matching accessory I make.

I can handle criticism, but only if it is constructive, and accurate based on the downloading of the skin itself.

Kitty,

To me you are a wonderful artist, always making very original and great skins, what, in my opinion, makes you defenetly a MASTER.

Keep up the great work

She will come back from this stonger ,better and greater than ever .Atleast now she knows who her real supporters are and who,ll just keep trying to shoot her down

How do you know her so well, BTW?  I've seen a couple comments from you that make it sound like you are sitting next to her typing how she is reacting, which I find odd since you've only been on the site for a couple days.  How can you know what she will know or how she will react?  How do you know her so well?

I agree.  But as you know well, the technical side ends up playing a huge roll when you are making skins to sell.

I don,t know any skinners  just been interested in the electronic arts and what a better way to create electronicly ?

Is this is how all master skinners at wincustomize are treated?

Yes,it is.

It comes with the title...anytime you charge money for any service or product you are inviting the hypercritical.(deserved or not)

I've seen some doozies on my work...they made me laugh.

I have to disagree with my old friend WOM...I think its not only easy but appropriate to judge a skin from a screenshot.90% of the time, using a skin only exposes flaws that are not evident in the shot.(even masterskins)

The sad and funny thing is...there are so many skins on this site it's just not worth the time spent commenting on a skin you don't like.

I have NEVER posted in a thread here b4, but i have a strong opinion (yes, its an opinion) so am gonna give u my take on this.

Firstly to all the skinners here .. after playing around with skin studio i have nothing but the highest respect for u all, and i have downloaded and used some of Vampothika's previous WB's in the past ... however

I have seen way worse criticism on other skins that have been added on WC, and i just feel that this (as i call it) online drama, was completely unnecessary. So a couple ppl thought it wasnt great, so what? doesnt matter how they word it, were not all as articulate as we'd like to be.

If ur gonna create art of any kind and make it available to the public, what exactly makes u think that everyones gonna be appreciative and sing ur praises (this is not a direct question, its a comment to ALL skinners etc) Go check out some movie reviews, hell, ive written a few lol

I, personally, would rather see this comment ... "man this sux dude"  than this "oh its wonderful darling *golf clap*"

C'mon, seriously, im not slapping anyone around here, i meant it when i stated that i highly respect ALL skinners here, i really do but take a look around ... last i looked we werent living in a perfect world and not everything an artist creates is gold.

I honestly see this as an over sensitivity issue and it kinda bothers me that something so trivial could cause such a ruckus.

So to sum up, if filmmakers can recover from making batman with george clooney, to making batman with christian bale? it was worth the criticism lolol

P.S I use xp and most ppl i know still do so yeah ... go xp w00t!

Neither one of them could hold a candle to Michael Keaton -- when he said "I'm Batman," he was!

Is it PPS or PSS?

It's "PPS" (post-post-script).

Maybe it's PMS?    [e digicons]:karma:[/e]

He didn't seem genuinely disturbed enough.  Awesome would have been (if the time/space continuem could be breeched), Michael Keaton's Batman with Health Ledger's Joker.  Of course that's just my opinion -- it may hold no truth in practice.

As a guy who's turned out some really nice skins (I'm a big fan of ecoLogical), I respect that you hold this opinion and maybe guys like you and vStyler are better qualified to make these kinds of judgments than guys like me who haven't put the time and effort and money into really learning the ins and outs of developing high-quality skins, but I've always felt that it's not really fair to judge any skin (judge to the point that you feel compelled to provide any kind of criticism either by PM or in the comments section, be it constructive, destructive, or somewhere in between) without taking it for a spin, kicking the tires and all other appropriate automobile-related metaphors (where's ShelbyGT and CarGuy when you need 'em?). Like others who have commented in this thread previously, this is one of the main reasons I rarely comment on skins. I've gotten out of the habit of loading up a bunch of new skins, putting them on for a few weeks and seeing what I think. Vista's actually done that to me--I was a pretty regular skin-changer back in my XP days.

For whatever it's worth, and I tend not to stick my nose into these kinds of things, it seems as though comments in this thread at least have been really ugly (or at least unnecessarily harsh) at times. I also see KM's point that merely to state you feel that something is subpar without providing specific areas that you feel need improvement and/or suggestions about how they could be improved is not really in the spirit of this community. While I know I haven't been around here as long as many of you guys, it's been my understanding (and the reason I've hung around for years) that this community is based on the idea of encouraging skinning and promoting and assisting skinners. To my way of thinking, this means that providing criticism is welcome, but only if it is with the genuine desire to help someone improve his/her art.

That's my 2 pennies. Others may feel free to disagree (many already have), but that's what I think.

I don't have a vendetta against vampothkittymaloneika. I'm not out to get her. Normally, I don't comment on her skins even though I do download them to check them out. Why? Because she thinks I'm out to get her. So if I leave any type of constructive criticism, there's a possibility that she'll be having a bad day and assume that I'm out to get her. So I usually stay away.

sorry, but this is an assumption, and is completley wrong. I recently volunteered to help you with zubaz's crayon skin.

Karmagirl, np if its required I will start including xp substyles in my future skins, I am also getting windows 7 next week, so I will have all 3 skins on board for the next master skin. The last thing I want to do is not have my skins up to your guys standards, I will endevour every way I can so that they do.

*huggles treetog* thanks darlin!!!

and yes, the brushes were an issue that has come to light, im glad it has, and have now rectified the error. Im pretty sure everyone else will follow suit.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you Sydney but Karen did not even mention johns name. so Im not sure why you are bringing vstyler into this.

and I still agree with IslandDog, cliches are going on, and so is bullying, and it has to stop.

Ive kept my responses as civil as possible, and I wanted this whole post to be that way and still do.

cliques are inevitable...you must balance the negative with the fanboy. They are 2 sides of the same coin.If you accept any and all praise you need to accept the opposite with equal grace.

I'm not sure that there is bullying going on, in order for it to happen you have to accept it.  I haven't seen one person here in the community that is willing to allow thierselves to be bullied.

Cliques on the other hand will always happen, that's life.  Most people won't admit to it but what is commonly called a clique are friends who have similiar likes and dislikes and they provide each other with a safety net when needed.

Well, that's what I think.
