Deskscapes 3 BETA - Release Notes and Issues List

Friday, October 9, 2009 by ZubaZ | Discussion: DeskScapes

A Deskscapes beta has been released.  This build has more effects that can be applied, and works on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.

Wallpapers have been added for Vista and Win7 users.  You can apply effects to them just like to dreams.

Different background types can be filtered out using the check-boxes above the background list.

Post anything that looks odd.  Make sure to give us your system information including your video card, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

Version 2.94[b].107 October 29, 2009

  • Added hybrid dream: Vintage
  • Fixes an issue where users had Deskscapes stop working on a resume.

Known Issues for Version 2.94[b].107

Windows 7 (64-bit)

  • We have seen a BSOD on one system with a NVIDIA 8800 Series.  If anyone else encouters this, please upgrade to the latest NVIDIA drivers and report it here including your DXDIAG.

If DreamManager still does not work then DreamManager would need an update to detect DS3.

I´ve send a mail to vistadreams.support( DreamManager) and now i´m waiting for reply.

Today came the answer from vistadreams.org:

" Dream Manager currently isn't garunteed to work with the new Desk Scapes 3. The developer is temporarily unavailable to release a new version, however in the coming weeks this will be addressed. Check the vistadreams.org homepage for information. When an update is available, more information will be posted under the Windows 7 information button at the top of the page.
Sorry about the delays in compatibility."

Thanks for the info all.  Last I read MB suggested that when DS3 supports double clicking it should just 'work' (as that's the method DM supposedly uses to activate a new Dream), obviously this is not the case after all/something else probably minor is holding it back.

Guess I will just wait it out a bit longer

Don't know if this is a bug or not or if it has been reported but i can't find it anywhere.  I have Windows7 Professional and when I install the Deskscapes latest release it messes up Wallpaper changing.  If I change a wallpaper from Windows with Deskscapes installed it imposes each changed wallpaper on top of the other ad infinitum.  Uninstalling Deskscapes fixes the problem.  I have done it twice now to confirm.

Your computer has a Windows Experience Index base score of 5.9
Your Windows Graphics Experience score is 7.5

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit OS

ATI Radeon HD 4870

Logging off corrects the error.  It resets just before it logs off to the correct single wallpaper.

Getting exactly the same problem with Windows 7 Premium 32 bit OS.

Index Base Score 4.7.

Graphics Score 5.9

Nvidia 7600 GT

Even worse if I try to change the theme from Personalize it overloads the wallpapers, brightens the monitor and all desktop shortcuts dissappear until reboot. Also cannot right click on desktop when that happens.

With a dream running...or a deskscape wall loaded double clicking the desktop does not hide/show fences...they remain visible...

Actually...to add to that...if I left click [and hold] on the desktop the fences are hidden...until I release the mouse button.

If i double click a .dream file from explorer it copies it to C:\Users\USER\Documents\Stardock\Dreams even if the folder has been added to the DeskScapes 3 Configuration application.  So now when I return to DeskScapes 3 Configuration app, I have two of the same dreams.  One in my original folder, the other in the C:\Users\USER\Documents\Stardock\Dreams folder.

I understand you want to copy dreams to this folder so they show for users, but it would be nice if there was a way to prevent the copy all together so there arn't copies floating around depending on where I double click from explorer from.

For me and my Dream Manager software, a command line option to have DreamTasks.exe not copy the file, but use the one in place would help me out a great deal here

I was happily using Deskscapes slideshow and now it's gone. The only tab I have at the bottom now is 'Backgrounds'. The 'Slide Show' and the other one, are now gone. I flipped on Windows 7 Ultimate slide show for now but it doesn't allow me multiple folders for my backgrounds. Any ideas. It was running great. Deskscapes 3, Windows 7 Ultimate, Index is 5.4 but the two graphics one are 6.2. Single monitor.

Help,

Needless to say I think Deskscapes is great.

Have you selected the slideshow dream in the dreams list?

If it is not showing, make sure you have not deselected the default dreams folder in the settings tab, or hidden it by using the filter by option.

Yep, I had deselected the 'default dreams' folder as I only wanted to use a couple of mine. I put it back in (and the default OS one) so lots of stuff show up now in the display. However I still don't have the 'slideshow' tab at the bottom back. How do I set up a 'slideshow' to go through my own folders of wallpapers? I have nothing turned off in the filters part. The 1st 3 stars are on, and I've included everything else.

By the way, thanks for the quick reply.

To have the slideshow, select the Desktop Slideshow item in the list.  Once selected the second tab should change to Slideshow Images.  If you cannot see Desktop Slideshow at all, click to the left of the left most star in the filter by option just in case you accidentally rated it as a low star rating.

AHA. THANK YOU! Yep, I'd made the desktop slideshow a 2-star item. Silly me! Thanks again. I'm happy! Many thanks.

Trying to go to 'Dynamic Dream Settings' while the 'Water Dream' is playing results in a dialogue telling me 'This dream has no user configurable settings".  Lies!  All lies!!!

EDIT : Using DreamManager to play a new dream does not get recognised by the 'configure deskscapes' window and presumably it was still thinking it was displaying a different dream.
