A Deskscapes beta has been released. This build has more effects that can be applied, and works on XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
Wallpapers have been added for Vista and Win7 users. You can apply effects to them just like to dreams.
Different background types can be filtered out using the check-boxes above the background list.
Post anything that looks odd. Make sure to give us your system information including your video card, your OS (including 32 or 64 bit), and if it's hard to explain (or even if it isn't) a screenshot.

With the free version 1.02, dreams stopps automatically, if i´ve maximized a window or start a game.
With deskscapes 3, dreams works always in background.
I believe, this is not so good for the performance.
I have Win7 64bit.

I´ve found another bug.
I´ve make my own dreams folder with over 200 dreams on drive E:
With the free DeskScapes 1.02, i´m going to ControlPanel/ Desktopbackground and see all my Dreams.

Mouseover a dream and the dream works.
Now, with DeskScapes 3 beta, the same folder, but i see only a wallpaper.
Where are my dreams?

To activate a dream, i must go to the DeskScapes-interface, but with over 200 dreams, i scroll and scoll and scroll and scr....
That´s not so good for me.

This is not a bug. You can apply the dreams if you want by double clicking on them from your folder on drive E.
The new user interface allows you to find dreams by typing in the search box. This should allow you to find the dreams you want quickly and easily.

Thanx for your answer, Neil.
Doubleclick works good.

Ok, this may be a little tough to explain. I go to the effects tab in Deskscapes and start clicking on the effects to get previews, from left to right, exploring my options. When I get a few effects in, clicking on the effect doesn't do anything, in fact, clicking on the next effect to the right will select it's neighbor to the left instead. As you get farther along, clicking an effect will start selecting the one 2 spaces to the left and so on.
I changed my DPI setting in Windows from 120 (where I had it set) to the default 96 and, voila, no more problem. I thought you should know that a non-default setting is making the UI buggy. For that matter, higher than normal DPI also makes a number of the Stardock UIs a little buggy: for example, the wallpaper selection in the new Windowblinds interface won't allow me to scroll all the way to the right without trying to roll back to the left (again, a little hard to explain, but this will not happen on the standard DPI setting).
I'm running Windows 7 rtm 64bit with an ATI Radeon 4850.

I just wanted to say "Thank You." I was so bummed because I couldn't get Deskscapes to upgrade even though I had just purchased it a couple of months ago. I kept getting that serial number messsage. But I kept trying to find an answer. You gave it to me "Thanks so much. This is really cool. I love the new deskscapes. I just wanted to let you know your information was very helpful to me.
Sincerely, Lynnette

Hey, I just wanted to bump this thread to say I found the new "Enable support for additional graphics cards (may increase CPU)" in the Deskscapes/Settings/Advanced panel and all of a sudden my third monitor (Geforce 295) started playing the Photo Dream! 8)
I have one bug though...don't shoot me! In my case, monitor 3 is rotated 90 degrees (1050x1680), so while the photodream plays orientated correctly, it is scaled too narrow/too tall. The gradients and background images scale correctly though it appears.
I'm sure that's an easy tweak, programming wise.
A BIG surprise. THANK YOU!!!

What is the cpu usage like?
Also what happens if you play a video dream?
Especially if you enable the fit multiple monitors option (second tab when playing videos)
Reply #15 Friday, October 23, 2009 5:01 AM
Who says that?
Which dreams are crashing, what version of Deskscapes are you using and what version of Windows are you using?

CPU - dwm.exe is at 11-12% (via task manager) on a Quad Core 6600 (only 2.4 ghz!) so that's going to be using just under 1/2 of one core to maintain.
Video - all options work as expected, nice! dwm.exe is taking 8% on the same setup, so roughly 35% of one core in all video modes.
Effects - Any effects used on any dynamic dream sends all three screen backgrounds to black. This is on Windows 7 64.
It looks like all other dynamic dreams and video dreams scale as expected, so it looks like Photo Dream may need a quick tweak to handle the portrait aspect mode of monitor 3. Just a guess.

Is that new to the second beta? I've been holding off upgrading because I need MasterBarons DreamManager to work. If the second beta is compatible then I guess I'll have to reinstall Impulse and check it out ![]()

Support for double clicking is new to the second beta though. If DreamManager still does not work then DreamManager would need an update to detect DS3.

Yeah, i think also.
I´ve send a mail to vistadreams.support( DreamManager) and now i´m waiting for reply.
It would be nice, if deskscapes can switch dreams automatically in a timed interval or once a day.

There's a problem installing the update that a few people are having. When clicking on the update a few are getting an error message that says "Invalid Serial Number".
I've found a way around it. If you go to the update page and click on the button under the help icon labeled "install all updates"' it will install as long as it's listed in you're list of updates.
