I have been asked to clarify a few things.

- I am not soliciting any funds at all. I am simply looking for support via signatures. I don't want any more information from you other than your name or nickname. This is not Acorn. Only 1 signature per person. This needs to be as uncorruptable and it is the integrity of the movement that is important. I will refuse all offers of donations on the matter.

- The entire ocean is contaminated from this. Every type of seafood you eat is contaminated with plastic.

- I intend to rewrite the letter in a more formal fashion if this gets momentum. I woke up this morning with an urge to do something so I just threw the letter together.

- I would propose to boycott 100's of companies that overpackage goods for the sake of attractiveness.

-There are way better materials that goods can be packaged in that will harm our planet less.

-I apologize to the mods for doing this but I feel you are a caring group that hopefully won't suppress me.

-I would like to ask permission to spread this out through different sections of the forums to get the word out to as many as possible justlike the Mods do when making announcements related to Stardock products. Stardock should be honored for pushing their goods via internet downloads to reduce waste. I would also hope I can use this as an example in the future. I will not do anything else without permission.

-Please feel free to raise any other concerns as this is all about us and our childrens future. I have simply founf a way for you to get involved with very little effort and possibly an occasional check in to a website I hope to set up so you can see the progress.

-I just cannot sit here anymore and watch crap like this go unnoticed. To be honest, I don't know what I am doing.

- We have over 3 million members here and that is enough to make it happen.

I hope Our World.org isn't taken yet........

If my movement starts to gather any steam I will formalize things further with research and a plan of attack.

Not to put a damper on your worthwhile efforts, but one would think that the research would come first as it would take a bit more than a Wiki Media article to convince me of the real possibilities for solution as well as the scope of the issue.  I never sign up for something before I at least have an idea of what is truely going on meaning I would have to do my research first.

Everyone jumped on the ethano bangwagon and later found out it was causing worse polution and draining the water supplies as diverting crops from the truely hungary around the world.  For all I know, cleaning this mess up would have collateral damage like killing all the fish in the process.  Like I said, I have no idea and thank you for raisng the issue which I will certainly check out.  I do agree that there is no doubt that the overuse of plastic containers is a natural disaster in the making.  But there are many issues such as most frozen vegetables are packaged in plastic and while it might be find to say no more of that, it is also true that the food distributionsysytem can not make ffresh fruit andf vegetables available to everyone in the cities etc and without processing and frozen packaging many would simply be out of luck, ergo pasteurized milk.  A matter of shelf life.

Thanks for the article, I will begin to learn.

Point taken and awareness is the simple goal. Thanks you for listening. Your input is of great value to me as I fumble to get started.

There is already an organization attempting to get the ball rolling. I am simply trying to gather support as a seperate entity from such organization as the more the merrier I say.

I'll bet you all saw Wall-E and thought, this can't happen. Well it is happening and in a few decades it will be too late to do anything about it.

Add my name. I asked you to do that in another post.

And, It can make money...if the collected crap is recycled as it should have been from the beginning.

*doc says this is the last time I'm helping you clean up your room, Craig.

Whatever I find out in my research, it does seem obvious to me that dumping anything in the oceans of the world should be a no-no.

You might take a look at the steel industry.  Ever wondered what happens to all the scrap heap cars in the junk yard?  They are mashed up and sent for recycling but there is only one market in the world where the envirnomental laws make recycling of steel a worthwhile investment and that is China.  There is none being done in the US and yet we create most of the steel junk.

Ken, I know there are further problems to explore and take care of. I would rather not confuse those with this problem. I would like to focus on getting this island of trash cleaned up and only this island of trash... for now. If a miracle happens and we can successfully come together to make this happen we can go onto the next problem.

Baby steps will get us where we need to be.

Eventually I will need some funding and my plan on that would be making a Master skin and all the money recieved will go to this cause. I want to gain the trust of you all and that might be a good way.

You can add my name too, Craig.  Is it all right if I post a link to this thread in my DA journal?  If not, just say no!!!

I woke up this morning with an urge to do something so I just threw the letter together.
  Wall-E whispered in your ear....

You misunderstand me Craig.  I was not suggesting that you deal with the steel issue.  I was suggesting that in that issue is also a cost of recycling situation that has many parallels to the cost of recycling plastic as a vivable alternative to dumping.  That's all.  Sorry for the confusion.

Best of luck with your efforts!

Here is a rough draft of a letter that I am working on. It might help to explain the direction I wish to go in. All feedback is appreciated.

Dear (insert company name),

My name is Craig Oman. I represent a new group of concerned citizens Our World.org.  I am writing to you to inform you of a serious problem that is directly related to your business practice and how it affects the future of mankind.

There is currently a massive trash vortex forming in the North Pacific Ocean. You can find some basic information at the following web address.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage_Patch.

My purpose in writing to you is to give you a chance to assist in getting this cleaned up. I have initiated a petition in hopes of gaining power to get companies like yours involved in the cleanup. I would hope that this can be done with your complete cooperation and boycotts of your goods are not necessary but I and the millions of concerned citizens that have signed my petition are ready to do what it takes to make this happen.

Why your company?

Your company has the wealth and power to make this happen. Your packaged goods have directly added to this problem over the years and now it is time to clean up the mess that has been generated by the products you sell. This isn’t about profit. It is about responsibility towards all mankind and our future.

Companies such as yours spend millions of dollars on advertising each year. This is a marketing opportunity for you that I believe you should not ignore. You can sell the fact that you are doing what it takes to clean up this mess and in return gain public respect rather than suffer from repercussions of ignoring the problem.

We are a small group right now but we are working hard to spread the word about this serious problem that will affect generations to come if not tended to today.

We hope that you see the urgency involved and would hope that you head this off and do the right thing.

We anxiously await a response as enough time has been wasted. Let us work together with a fresh perspective and new hope for our future.

**** MY goal right now is to get a letter out within the next week. So pleas please please add your name to the list.

Who were you planning to ask?

Sorry...couldn't resist.

Maybe you want to be talking to the Admins/Mods at the other big skinning sites and dA regarding putting the word out, NT?

Also...maybe the large Ecological/Green sites?

Just ideas. Maybe if someone has a friend who has knowledge about raising funds for causes that might help too.

These are contradictory and mutually exclusive. Either we're a small group, or we're millions strong.

I would also suggest that threatening isn't the way to go at all. You really want to get face time with a person who will see that what you're talking about is something he/she can identify with.

Thanks Doc, I know about the contradiction. I just wanted to let people know where I am going with this. I would have a lawyer review the final draft of course.

Dont recall seeing milk in a glass container in years..plastic only around here and both Kamora (Generic Kaluha) and generic brand vodka almost exclusively in plastic now too.
