I can't create a link here.
First do this but don't go there yet. Copy this url:
antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html
This will take you to an archive nasa has been accumulating for some time. I accidently stumbled on it while futzin' with BK's 'puter this morning. There is a list of dates and the image that was taken that day. The first one I went to was 2009/3/29......Signals from a strange universe. OMG!
Check out these other dates. Some are awesome.
2009/3/12
3/10
2/22
2/10
1/11
2008/12/29
You get the idea. There are so many beautiful images of the universe out there. I give the creator a +10

Now there's a couple more reason for ET to visit.... and with Dolly Parton, he'd bring friends from neighbouring planets as well.
(Hey, that's not my fault... there's just so much of her to go 'round)
![]()
Hopefully Tom Cruise isn't there-abouts... otherwise we're likely to get nuked from space.
Personally, I think that episode when he danced on Oprah's sofa like a pubescent caterpillar on speed completely ruined our inter-planetary reputation and we're not never likely to live it down.
And as if Bill Clinton's White House indiscretions weeren't enough.... giving that poor girl carpet burns on her knees n' all. GWB had to go and say: "You're either with us or agin us!" Well that did it! ET, thinking along the lines of old Bill's antics, thought to himself; "F**k that, I'm not getting myself into any compronising situations with that effwit." and simply stayed away.
So there you have it! Had it not been for Tom Cruise, Bush and Clinton (could probably add in ex-Oz PM John Howard as well) ET may have landed and become our friend. Oh Well, now we won't ever get that perpetual enegy source that'll get us off this rock once mankind has totally depleted its environment, destroyed its usefulness and liveability.
Others whose shoulders we can squarely rest the blame on are Brad Pitt for dumping Jen to snap up Angelina, the producers of lifestyle and reality TV shows... yeah, those programs designed to promote half-assed talent, fictitious vote-em off shows to profit from phone-ins, and home renovation/weight loss efforts to entice people into buying crap they neither want or need. ET wants to be entertained.... and he's got a spaceship for fuck sake, one he's been in for months/years living on paste instead of real food.... so the last thing he wan't to see are home renovation/weight loss show that wanna sell him crap he has no use of.
As for the so-called talent show where wannabes get voted off (Idol, Dancing with the Stars and all that crap) he can see better from busker on crack down at the mall.... and he doesn't have to spend his money (the exchange rate is abysmal) on phoning up to vote 'em off. If he doesn't wanna attract attention with his ray gun (yeah, some acts deserve it) he can just walk on and it costs him nothing.
Oh, and another person who has a lot to answer for, why ET hasn't come here, is Pee Wee Herman. If ET's on his way here and tunes his TV into that clutz, he's just gonna throw a U-Turn and go right back to whence he came.

It just occurred to me, another reason why ET doesn't come here:
Mork from Ork went back and told 'His Hugeness" than many of Earth's inhabitants are like Lenny and Squiggy, Laverne and Shirely.... screaming, squawking half-wits who can't find their backsides with both hands and instructions. Hence, 'His Ginormousness" spread the word and it took off like wildfire across the Universe.
Of course, it wouldn't have helped any with Alf reporting back that the only decent food on the planet is cats... and they're not allowed to eat them.
Yup, we really gotta clean up our act. I mean, if we can make substitute meats from soy products, surely we can create synthetic cats from soy as well.
Oh yeah, and kill off all the reruns of Laverne and Shirley.... destroy all the tapes and burn any entertainment rags with any reference to the show.

Yep...and any ET who is stupid enough to come here is bound to be killed anyway...look, every human who advised us about our odious shortcomings has met an ugly and premature end....and from simply observing how xenophobic we are, the bugger won't stand a chance.
And, starkers, you only wish there were 4 orbs per.

All too true. ET would look upon the human race and shake his/her head in sadness. In my novel Earth is not represented simlpy because wat is now is represented in that future time as well. Greed and the accumulation of material wealth is rampant. The society I'm trying to create lives by one simple rule...no one loses.
In this future time there is a group of young women led by a single male whose sole dedication is to see their happiness fulfilled. He does this by backing them up with all the power at his command which is considerable. Their desire is to see that everyone without exception is able to enjoy the same kind of quality of life they have. They want for nothing. There is no poverty, no hunger, no one who goes without all the basic necessities that give life meaning.
Sounds like utopia but it is far from it. These ladies had to fight hard for what they have. Their beginnings were horrific being held as sex slaves and suffering the abuses that go along with it. They fought and died for their freedom and now are in a position to use the enormous resources granted them by their benefactors to rid this galaxy of those who would deprive the innocent of a just quality of life.
I've tried to put into this novel all comparisons to those evils that exist in our world. The solutions they've come up with are nothing short of contraversial in that they use the power they have to effect change. Tyrants are taken down. Totalitarian states are engaged to change their way or risk being blasted to the far end of nowhere. Some do and those that refuse are simply done away with. One of the most important aspects I've tried to emphasize is collateral damage is to be avoided at all costs.
This is accomplished by first isolating the innocent under a protective umbrella where no harm may befall them. Their oppressors are then dealt with. Sometimes harshly but always with one outcome in mind. Total elimination, a permanent end to oppression.
Doctors treat symptoms, rarely the cause of those symptoms. My people look for the cause and when found it is obliterated. When there is no longer a cause then there are no symptoms to 'treat' as it were. They do not walk away when they accomplish a goal. They remain to insure that those oppressed are given all that is needed to reclaim their lives and their dignity.
I believe that an all inclusive policy is necessary to ensure an objective approach. To this end they refuse no one. All are entitled to the same considerations be they friend or foe. A potential enemy is never treated as such. Always is the benefit of the doubt given. Some recognize it for what it is and reap the benefits and no longer are thought of as being a potential enemy. Those who do not are simply swept aside in favor of something that works to the benefit of all people not just a select few.
One thing I did stress is this. Politics are considered anathema. To often people die before a consensus can be reached. Issues are debated to death and that is a waste of precious time. If a thing needs doing you do it. You don't wait, you don't debate. And you do not under any circumtances whatsoever take for granted that someone else will do it first. Borders are not recognized. Sovereign territory is not recognized where the health and well being of the people are concerned. They can do this because not only do they have the will but they also have the power to back it up.
Demonstrated when these women take on one of the great powers in the galaxy, The Terran Federation, and kick their sorry asses to hell and back again. It didn't matter that their numbers are few. It didn't matter that they were outnumbered nearly a hundred to one. What did matter is the fact that their technology is lightyears more advanced and impossible to counteract. But one thing that has been drilled into them is this: With great power comes an even greater obligation an even greater responsibility to those who have less than you, those whose need is great. One of my characters put it this way...
"Why should people not have what I got? I got a home. I got a full belly and all that good stuff. I can lay me down to sleep at night all nice and toasty warm. Why should I have all this and nobody else. It's not fair".

@ Uvah #26:
In other words, ET thinks the human race sucks and does not use its powers wisely because of corruption and greed.... the never ending quest for greater power to oppress those less fortunate.... to deprive them of quality of life by withholding/making too expensive those assets and resources which would elevate them to a standard of living worthy of EVERY human being.
Sucks, don't it! That ET is more humanitarian than many of those who consider themselve to be a part of the human race.... and he ain't even human.

We were seeded by aliens and are simply a petri dish for them.

The Earth is just a giant calculating machine run by mice... Which is kinda pointless as we already know the answer is 42...

Why is The Doors song "The End" running thru my mind on an endless loop. Thanks, Fuzzy.
And a contaminated culture at that.
Too true.

It does when you stop and think about it. Why is it that the basic necessities of life...decent food a warm place to lay your head at night and health care that doesn't rake you over the coals and push you further into poverty are the most expensive things when these are the very things that each and every human being on this planet should have from day one free of charge!
Affordable health care. Medicine that costs more than an average person makes in a week. Rent. Forget it. Here in West Chester a studio apartment is $750.00 per month and that's without utilities. One single room that in the average home is the equivalent of a living room. A regular apartment. No way. They start at a thousand dollars a month and still without utilities. Granted it's a college town but still...that shouldn't matter. Food used to be the least expensive. Not any more. A loaf of bread I remember costs mere pennies. Now you couldn't get one for less than two bucks in some places. Milk...a gallon three to four dollars.
Anyone of us could rant and rave on about the injustice of it but in the end it really doesn't matter as the little guys like me and maybe some of you know damn well it won't make a damn bit of difference. Last I heard or rather seen on the news more than 700,000 jobs have been lost since November. It's probably a lot more by now. The largest automaker in the country just files for bancruptcy. Now their calling it Government Motors. Chrysler Corp. used to be the number one and where are they at. The Italian automaker Fiat owns them now. That after merging with Daimler Benz not all that long ago.
This world has so many ills. I've heard tales of traffic in child slavery. Nothing new there. Sweatshops that still operate despite all the 'government' regulations. Drug trafficking is still on the rise and that too in spite of so called 'gevernment' regulations laws and what have you. There's an entire continent still at war with itself and has been for how many thousand years now. Pathetic in my view. Now there's the return to piracy on the high seas in the form of Somalian pirates siezing vessels that come too close.
All you have to do is look at any newspaper and see how this world of ours is going to hell with itself in a handbasket. The funny part of it and the most sickening is that all of it can be stopped in a heartbeat. You think I'm kidding? No no no...If all those who claim they want peace, equality and all that good stuff really did want it...ha ha...they would have had it by now. Peace does not a fat wallet make. Destabilization fuels the makers of weapons and such to maintain the status quo. No change as that would lessen the amount of money flowing into the coffers of those who rule.
What all those who represent the powers that be fail to realize is this......history 'ALWAYS' repeats itself. No one is immune and no one will be unscathed by it. The collapse on Wall Street proved that. Millions out of work and losing their homes. Two governments fall. The 'GLOBAL' economy in the shit can and still....there's North Korea rattling a nuclear saber. Afhganistan and Pakistan are now focal points in a potential nuclear standoff, if Uncle Sam isn't careful, with India. Keep the region destabilized as in the case of Isreal and the Palistinians. Iran flexing their muscle. Sick shit in a nutshell.
And then there is 2012. The Mayan calendar says the world 'as we know it' will end. I'm beginning to believe that. Want proof other than what is already out there. Look to the Ring of Fire in the Pacific. Last I looked there were more than a dozen volcanoes erupting. Mt. Ranier's dome is growing and she's getting restless. Yellowstone is getting restless in that the ground swell has become more pronounced. In case you don't know Yellowstone is classified as a super volcano. The entire park sits within a caldera. This volcano has erupted six time in the last hundred million years or so. Last was approximately 600,000 years ago and is overdue like the big one in California and like so many others. Then there is this.
A recently discovered fault zone in the Ohio Valley that makes the one already known there look like a tooth pick in comparison. This one let go some time ago and changed the course of the Mississippi river. It used to empty into the Atlantic. I once saw an artists rendition of what the U.S. would look like should most if not all of these things let go. Florida ceases to exist. The source of the Mississippi River opens up and causes a split that forms an inland sea. The delta that forms the southern gulf now moves north and and our eastern seaboard vanishes. Coastal cities are swamped. Sealevels rise maybe as much as a hundred feet or more. All this could happen within three years. Not saying it will but the possibilty exists. That's enough to ruin your day for sure.
Point is that so much of the worlds problems could easily be solved 'IF' the powers that be really wanted to. I'm thoroughly convinced that they do not. They'd have to go a helluva long way to prove differently to me. All this I put into my novel. I also invented solutions. It all boils down to one thing...if a thing needs doing...DO IT...don't futz around until it's too damn late!!

exactly. Isn't that what our scientists do?
If given the opportunity to establish an off world lab as to not contaminate our own planet we would be all over it.
If you look at it all from this perspective, you can easily answer most if not all of your questions without biblical magic.
Missing link - solved.
Why aliens don't contact us - solved.
Ancient text and drawing mysteries- solved
Why we don't even use half of our brains- solved
and on and on and on...... ![]()

We're essentially the Isolation Lab of this arm of the galaxy. Not surprising. The rest of life in the galaxy/universe is probably hiding, and figuring ways to jam our probes and "photohop" (or their equivalent) the Hubble pictures we get. Can't blame 'em a bit.
I still remember a Gahan Wilson cartoon showing the Astronauts going around the dark side of the moon and seeing a wooden framework stretching the hollow half moon with printing on the back, "Act IV Scene 2"....LOL.

Stop paying your insurance premiums. In 1 month time the insurance companies will be out of business. It is the only way to change the system.
I know...nuther thread... I couldn't resist.

Exactly. Consumers don't organize...therefore have no power. Taxpayers...same logic: Set your taxes aside in an escrow account. If everyone does it...lemme tell ya, the Pols and Business boys will come around pronto. But no worries. People just talk and don't do crap.
Reply #38 Sunday, May 31, 2009 10:58 AM
You got that right! Whatever happened to the tax revolt that got so much hype a while back. When the settlers back in the day didn't like the tea tax they dumped the stuff overboard. People today I think are a bunch of wusses. They love complaining but do something like revolt? No way. They're too damn scared of the government. If everyone were to do just a little bit Uncle Sam wouldn't know whether to shit piss or run the other way!

The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.
Read the rest....A little on the whacked side but closer to the truth than you know....
