As a long time time fan i am dissapointed
Monday, April 13, 2009 by DjiRate | Discussion: Skinning
as a long time fan of the great Z71 and all his skins...i am dissapointed with this one...LIGHT MARK...i am a skinner myself and i tend to nitpick my own skins to death. im not claiming to be a great skinner by any means i am however claiming to have an eye for detail and i just wanted to ask or to see if anyone else with the new skin "LIGHT MARK has seen the same things as i have![]()

I never said that. It was just a request. Didn't mean you couldn't.
I just didn't want every answer I made, be nit picked and explained by someone else. After the 100th time, it gets old.
BTW, the skin, in question, has been updated and is back up. GO REDOWNLOAD.
Posting these issues 3 times, on Wincustomize, is a little overkill. My e-mail does work.
For those that don't know how, just click the user name and it will take you to that users page. There you will find the email link.

I think everyone lost track of the OP's point. He said he was a fan and was merely expressing disappointment, things spiraled quickly downhill from there when 'community members' started attacking him for his thoughts.
So who really is the 'lynch mob'?
Its getting to where negative critique is something frowned upon. This IS a forum for discussion is it not? Does everything have to be candy coated? No one is going to learn anything, improve on their skills until flaws in their current work are exposed. Seems obvious to me that Z71 and a few others learned something via this post. Must have.. the skin is being updated.
I personally believe that even the best skinners can be tainted when money is entered into the equation and I think its up to everyone to make sure that skinners in this position, including myself should be the most heavily scrutinized and taken to task regarding the quality of our work.
Just because many users use a skin, bugs aside, rips aside and don't care (Phoon, SGT) doesn't mean everyone feels that way.
The OP found some bugs and listed them... after this he's probably one more person trigger shy to say anything negative the next time.
For what its worth I've been pushing for a skinners only area since I've been here.. everyone thinks its a great idea.. but nothing ever gets done.
Great Skin Z71!!! [e digicons]:karma:[/e]

Is the skin getting fixed? Yes. Seams to me the OP got the results needed by utilizing the forums which coincidentally manage to work the best when needing assistance of any kind.. even getting rips removed. People will go with what gets results and informs others of a potential "bad egg". I have always believed in tar and feathering even though I would have been tarred and feathered several times in my life.
If I have a problem, I deal with it in the means that works best for me first. If I was to purchase a skin and it was flawed, I am not going to sit around waiting for information when I have the time now to deal with it. I will use any means of communication available to get the information I need, when I need it.
Some of you preach ettiquette that simply doesn't and won't exist amongst the slight anarchy that the web is. The web is too advanced for humans. Threads like this assure me of it. ![]()

Lightstar: It's called delegating responsibility. An important part of a CEO's job function. Notice how masterfully i delegated that to Dog? Take notes buddy.
Dog: That how we Floridians roll. Lock and loaded.

It is but for 'civilized' discussion and not name calling and attack. There was very little of 'civilized' discussion last night on this post. Very disappointing.

You have every right to ask questions. Perhaps it would have been better to start with a message to the author to see if this was an issue that could be resolved. Failing that, a comment on the skin comments itself 'could' have been another avenue to follow.
Questions relating to possible use of other skin elements would certainly have been best handled contacting a mod first.
Moderators and admins do care about the concerns of 'everyone' on the site and do not condone personal attacks from 'anyone' on the forums. The childish display by some who responded with such comments was not and is not acceptable.
Needless to say that I personnaly am very disappointed in a few who I thought should know better and expected better from them.
None of us wish for anyone to stop commenting, however we do expect those who comment to be civil.

I hope there is something to be learned from this thread by both skinners and non-skinning members.

Well, if there's one thing I've learned from hanging around here, it's that there's always a fair chance that whether you desert or not, you will be mocked with PhotoShop.

I've seen issues with all skins at one point or another. Master skin or Not. Skins have issues and this thread points out the issues with this skin in particular. The thread itself is a little degarding to Z and I would have closed this topic if I was a moderator (alas, I'm not and I have 10 other sites to manage).. and moved it into the skin comment area itself. lol I don't know if the mods have that ability with the way the site is coded here though...
Either case, skins have issues for some or a lot of people. No matter the artist that created it... However, also bear in mind if you're seeing the issue in a particular program.. It could be just your machine that has the issue depending on the program version and/or issues it has natively. Sometimes it's not the skins fault. Not sure where I'm getting at.. Just figured I'd throw in my 2 cents to lighten up the air..
If that don't work.. Then I dunno.. Go watch a Stephen Lynch video on youtube or something...

First, let me say, jojo25 you don't have to run away. You had some valid points, that needed fixing, and I appreciate
that you let me know. You've helped me and a lot of other people, have a better skin. Your feedback is always welcome.
Could this have been handled better? Yes. He could have emailed me, with his findings and if I didn't know something, I would have asked around or asked for another masters help.
But, if there's no response, after a decent amount of time (I know people can be very impatient), then bring it to the forums for advice and constructive comments.
Now, I'll touch on a few things that were wrong with the skin.
The windows background: I thought I had deleted it. I didn't. The 4px by 4px image was still in the folder. An honest mistake.
The text and logo on the Vista taskbar: Someone said it was a design flaw. Fine. But who uses windows that are that small.
I noticed that the icons, that are covering it, are way over on the left side of the window.
Maybe I should complain, when I reduce a window and some of the titlebar text gets cut off. It's a design flaw, right?
What about all the skins, I download, and when I roll up the window, it looks like crap. Another design flaw, right?
The progress bars: Yes, I'll admit they are the same size, but I only used the size as a base. Who hasn't?
I created the images and replaced them with mine. Simple as that. An orange gradient with glass effect. Took 2 min.
I guess then that all the people that have ever made a start menu 380 px wide (that's standard size) are ripping each other off. Hmmm...
The Vista colors: This I didn't know about. I usually, do all the colors in SKS5, so I didn't see the Vista colors button in SKS6.
Again, another honest mistake. Now I know and I'll remember to use SKS6 next time for that.
The "Single" close button glow: This was a simple fix that took 2 seconds. 'nuff said.
Now, after all that, what really disturbs me, is how one Master can make another Master look bad.
Would treetog ever do MikeB this way? Would MikeB ever do this to Alexandrie? No.
Would I do that to another skinner? Never in a million years. That's because they're professionals
and know how to do thing the proper way.
They could have sent me an email, explaining how they fould some problems and I would have taken care of it.
No harm, no foul.
Then, if they wanted to start another thread, explaining some tips they've found that might help out other skinners,
that would have been nice. All they did was make themselves look good and me look bad. That is called disrespect. Plain and simple.
After I had made my first comment, explaining what I thought at the time, might be causing these issues, they were forced (not my words)
to do what they did, because the author (me) responded. Like I was holding a gun to thier head. This is the same person, who accused me of ripping thier work.
Very disappointing.
But hey, were all puppy dogs and rainbows now. Then why am I the one who looks like a bag of crap in the end.
Z

I don't think you look like a bag of crap. I think the way you handled yourself shows that you are a master skinner; you took what was said, adjusted the skin, everybody learns from this, and now we move on.

The way I see it, you look fine. You handled yourself like someone who wears "big boy underwear!" ![]()

Very well said Phoon. I must agree and I do enjoy this Master Skin completely. Sure there are those little things I correct for any skin on my machine here. Master or not I still go in and make my changes to have it work with my system the way I want it to work and such.
I say good post Phoon! Thanks for a good point...
Agreed ID - it seems there is always a better way or place to do things. Always it is that things come out in the forums a lot more often than usually before. Just with such a topic as such this is. I agree people need to find better ways... but it is hard to let them see how this will happen or such. Plus they think the forums are the place to do whatever they think is best and such.
But what if we had another place of discussion to handle such things? A bit private - but still more open to people that would post there. I do not know where I'm going with that. But it could be something with some kind of controls for who see's what and how it is worked with. Just for the members or whatever... bad word there [whatever] but we got something to consider with this maybe.
Only my thoughts on that one ID
