Carbon Fibre GTV: WIP
2nd blind attempt
Tuesday, February 3, 2009 by Mirsguy | Discussion: Sneak Previews
I began this new theme about 3 weeks ago.
I wanted to do a dark skin, but I didn't want to do glass. Glass can be over done. I wanted something more original. Also, I didn't want to do the black/blue combo. Though those colors look great together, once again, it can be over done.
Then I began to think back to when I first bought WindowBlinds... how I searched for a carbon fibre skin, and was left wanting...
When complete, this theme will also include ObjectDock backgrounds, a RightClick, and possibly a cursor (if I get the guts!
)

Mirsguy..... First let me say how great this is looking........
As for the start button, i think it just needs to look more part of the taskbar than just on top...... hope that sounds right.. ![]()
do you get what i mean...?
Love the skin mate.

Just got back from the Chicago Auto Show. And brought some ideas with me.
Stay tuned. . .

Thanks for the input Doc, Jim, & Robbie. I liked that new start button when I first did it, but I'm not so sure now. A new idea for the start button is one of the ideas I got from the auto show!

Lookin' great, Mirsguy! Love that carbon fibre!! Looking forward to the finished product. ![]()
Others may not agree, but I tend to prefer a minimalistic start button. I definitely prefer the first one, and would like it even better if it were smaller (narrower) and took up less of the taskbar's real estate. Just MHO. ![]()

funny how you should say that.........cars inspire me too........ looking good so far, but im not too keen on the second start button.....why not just do a wicked orb with animations? i think it would suit the skin.......

I've seriously thought about that, but I am doing everything I can to see if I can stay away from the default "vista orb" in this skin.
I think my last skin's orb start button was cool, but I don't want to start skinning in a rut. ![]()

I'm with you there mate.......

I did it. I made the start button an orb. And I have mixed emotions.

I really do like this encarnation very much. The best one I've done yet, IMO. I was just aiming to stay away from that orb look (sorry Robbie!).
The pic below shows the default view and the mouseover view. I haven't animated it yet, but I will. Survey says?

You got it! This looks super. It also has a far more "elegant" feel, Mg!
WELL DONE: You nailed it! ![]()

Yeah, gotta admit that the orb takes it again. Gotta save that "anti-orb" stuff for another skin, I guess! ![]()
Thanks for your input, everyone! Now to perfect the animation on the start button.
I would say that the Metal (light) substyle on Vista is about 75% done.

Agreed.

I think the start button needs centered horizontally?
Reply #39 Monday, February 23, 2009 11:21 PM
Dang you, V! I had already caught it and was hoping no one else would. ![]()
It's actually already fixed. Just in the process of fine tuning the animation. It also doesn't help that I have actual WORK to do tonight. No skinning for me until tomorrow night. ![]()
Seriously, though. Your eye for detail and desire for excellence motivates me. Thank you.

Agreed.
Having never made a blind, I was thinking the design of the button is awesome. Placement never occured to me...lol.

I like it! The first start button was, uh..., plain. This one is much better! IMO
