Well see to that it has space around it clean the fans (and that they/it work) ... and there is loads of laptopstands out there with fans as cooling solution...

Thanks for your response. I am hoping one of the community with actual experience with a piece of specific equipment might help and recommendations...I've read a couple of product revues but nothing compares with a WC'er with actual experience.

Check the bio settings to see if there is a fan setting for having it run on high all the time.

Sometimes thermal sensors do not perform right and it will allow the laptop to get hot.

Wow, Shelby....it's a very new laptop! Ok...but I do hear the fans when I listen to it...

ok.. but a laptop is a laptop the better  the more heat it produces and as far as cooling laptops there is not much expertise needed... unless you want to open it up and start changin parts but as you say its quite new.. and you prob dont wanna mess with the warranty.... and if you want to play around with fan's look up speedfan

Get a cooler lap.

Laptops are almost a misnomer, because they were terribly on your lap. Reason being is because most normally the vents are on the bottom and there are some stumpy legs to give it some lift, however placing the computer on your lap often blocks those vents. I recommend a stand or a table.

Get used to it. I have a HP Pavilion laptop and had same problem. Mine was under warranty and i have sent it to HP 2 times. They have changed my motherboard and a whole lot of other things. It lasted for like 2 weeks with a quieter fan. Heat is still there.

My Warranty i bought a second year because of this HP Pavilion Problem. Warranty is almost up and i will be sending it back just so they can put new parts in it.

I will tell you that i will not be buying a hp again.

But I have always had mine on a notebook lap stand and still have that problem. Its a HP Pavilion Thing. Lol

You might consider not over using your joy stick while cruising the porn pages.  That could at least reduce the usual friction heat being generated.

Could be the dreaded nVidia chip problem, especially if you have the 8600M series graphics chip, problem meant to be fixed for the 9X00M series. Google your graphics card number + heat problem.
Is the BIOS up to date, as it dictates fan action mainly.

My DV2000 failed 3 times so I got money back, under Euro law as goods not fit for function as described - they had the machine more than I did, so obviously not fit goods. Finland only tolerate 2 failures I think.
Mine was fulltime on a cold metal pad with 2 fans and still failed 3 times with 2 new motherboards and GFX chips.

The smaller the laptop and bigger the GFX and CPU the more troublesome heat is to control in the confined space - spray air to keep out dust, cooler pad, ensure BIOS up to date is all you can do.

My end solution was buy the Vaio AW - 18 ", SSD drive for OS plus 500 gb spin disc and 9400 GFX, runs cool so far.
Sony just gave huge price hike €2400 to €3700 for it though.

You could also try undervolting the CPU with RMClock some laptop gurus swear by it to reduce laptop CPU action - thus heat to on demand and run cooler and at a lower voltage.

My first RB Petrov was  ex RX drug trial cat at St Vinnies Hospital in Melb the Vet Faculty stopped all cat drug tests in Australia, cats have next to zilch oxidation of most drugs (acetominophen/paracetamol kills), they use sulphonation so extrapolation of results to humans was useless. Their anaesthetic dose of xylazine is half that of a cow !   Cats are not dogs, they are women in fur coats ! Petrov loved catching snakes for my mother, presents on doorstep, hehe.

i also have a hp pavilion laptop. i bought a swiss army brand cooling fan at walmart for $30. i recommend it. it works very good and my laptop never gets hot even after very long games(5-8 hours)

I use the Targus Chill mat with stand. It works well and Puts out tons of air keeping my lap and laptop much cooler.It allows the fans to work easier as it drives fresh air to the fan as well as keeps the heat off my lap. My lap has never been happier.
