pop-up menus - text/icon position adjustment

WB6 - SS6.0 - XP(SP2)

I'm attempting to adjust the location of where text shows up with pop-up menus. It doesn't seem to matter if my left text adjustment value is 5, 10 or 45, it is still in the same place. Icons are 2 pixels in from left border and text starts at 23 pixels from left border. I am making these adjustments from the menu item text settings.

Wimpy,

The text settings for the menus are adjusted in the 'menu item' section an not in the 'menu background', are you chnging it there?

Wimpy, I adjust the text by adjusting the content margins of the pull down item..I have never used the text settings to adjust my text.  Hope this helps.....

Hi jazzy, are you using SS5? I can't recall seeing any "content margin" references in SS6, I think they are all referred to as "text" adjustment settings??? is there another set of adjustments that I'm not looking at, that would be way cool to find more tweaks.

anyhow, this is using SS6, "edit menus and menu bars" edit window, "pop-up menus" graphics (background and menu item)

I have adjusted the right text margin of the menu item to various values (5 to 50) and the text won't budge. I need the text to start 35 pixels from the left border of the background. would like to adjust the icon position for these menus as well?

I was able to adjust my start menu all programs pop-up text position, but not this one.

Yes, that text can be adjusted but the pop up menu text cannot. You have to design around it. Aslo,They are actually a toolbar and some proggies will treat it that way so you can't make them too dark or you'll have black ( hard coded) text on a dark background. A common mistake is to make the pop up menus "fancy" but all that does is hamper usability if they are too crazy.

yep, noticed that also. thanks all for your help and NT for the info. not a problem now that I know the path to take.

Wimpy, yes, i am using SKS 5.  Sorry about that.  I don't know my way around SKS 6.  Since I don't have Vista, I haven't felt the need to use SKS 6.  I hope you are able to figure out the text settings.

ah, jazzy, no big deal, it was the "content margins" that gave you away. Content margins/text position same thing.

You know, I don't have vista and still find that SS6 provides me more functionality than SS5 did. I do miss the code editor occasionally but importing pngs is much more easy. just thinking out loud. as always, thanks for responding.
