New Master Skinner: Vad_M

Congratulations!

Monday, December 8, 2008 by Island Dog | Discussion: WinCustomize News

The time has come once again to promote one of our Journeyman skinners to the  exclusive rank of Master Skinner on WinCustomize.com.  Today’s honor goes to non-other than another DesktopX pro….Vad_M!  Although Vad_M is highly known for his DesktopX abilities, he’s no stranger to other forms of skinning, as his gallery has everything from CursorFX themes to WindowBlinds skins.  I have most of his DX Widgets and the quality and detail of work are amazing, and that definitely goes for the coding as well.

Vad_M is also active in the overall community, has been a member of WC since 2004, and the WinCustomize staff gave a big thumbs up to his nomination and promotion.  The hard work has paid off, so congratulations Vad!  Head over to his personal site on WinCustomize to look at his info and his gallery of skins.  Can’t wait to see more!

Here are just a few of my favorite Vad_M skins.

I agree with Zu, upload a free "demo" that is maybe a clock or something, but then SELL the whole "set" as a MASTER GADGET!

DX Work is so underrated as to how long it takes to do all the things that no one even sees.

SELL the whole "set" as a MASTER GADGET

Seems this is impossible because DX License forbids us to export DX Themes as a standalone Gadgets. Or may be this concerned only Full Desktops? It would be great!

I don't work on a "full" version yet. Now I only want understand how extract WB's images and apply them for some objects created with DX. And I try to make this only with VBScript and DXScript. Why? Because VBScript and DXScript are "User Friendly" and easy to study. As well the most of DX Users/Artists have at least the elementary knowledge about them.

So my goal is - make simple VBS plug-in which will integrate DX Theme with current WB Skin. Imagine that you made only the base scripts for your Widgets and DX Theme. Then you run plug-in and all of your objects become full integrated with your WB Skin with the same colors/fonts/styles etc...

But I found a few problems.    For example DX doesn't work with animated image if its frames were drawn vertically. As well as we can't change the count of images and time delay for current animation through script. We can solve this by using masks and object.move method. However this is not good...

QQ: Why Stardock finished work on DX development? I'm really afraid that DX may repeat the unfortunate way of ObjectBar...

P.S. The demo Widget (or may be Gadget   ?????) to display System Info will coming soon.

In the Object Desktop 2009 Preview, Brad wrote that there was an update planned for DX in 2009 and then DesktopX 4 around or after the Windows7 release.

I've reported some crashes and problems to be looked at for the update. Don't know if they will make the cut, but hopefully the big crash bugs are going to be fixed. Unless it's causing a crash, any new bug report or feature request is probably not going to be considered for the 3.x update.

If you haven't done so already, send a report with repro steps (and a test object if possible) to support so they can add those to the bugtracker. Oh and I've heard that come January Zubaz is going to love being bothered with all sort of complaints about the lack of updates and lazy engineering (just don't tell him I sent you...)

I love DX

THIS IS THE MAIN REASON WHY I WORK ONLY AROUND DESKTOPX TOO!

I found and studied a lot of alternate ways to make standalone desktop applications and sidebar gadgets with HTA, HTML, VB, etc.., etc... But I'll be never use this knowledges until DX is still alive...

However all latest updates for DesktopX from version 3.0 are just "cosmetic". No any fundamental, progressive additions which really expands the limits of it usage. And we can see this during a few years...

Where is Stardock DX Developer Team? Who thinks and works on how to make DX more Better, Powerful and Modern? If this Team is really exists where are the results?

For example DX email notification plugin is one of the best and very useful. However it work only with POP3 servers. At the same time millions of people uses GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo etc.. and they will be very happy if this plugin will allow them to check incoming mails for these accounts. More than! The Email Checker in WinCustomize Toolbar already do this! Why Stardock's people don't want to implement this option into DX? Seems this is not a hard work for professionals...

I can show a lot of similar examples... But I'm sure that these questions are not for Stardock Support. These questions must be asked for Stardock Leaders who really determines the Software Development Strategy and can to change this strange situation not in a Future but in the Present!

I hate you all

Zu! You are the Best and we love you too!
