I'm sick and tired of problems...
Sunday, October 26, 2008 by XX | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
The wincustomize site keeps freezing and almost crash my browser each time I visit this site.
Why? Unfortunately this was not first time, it happened last year, and again 2 years ago. Why do wincustomize keep on keeping up the tradition of crashing my browser once a while? I'm seriously SICK of this damn freeze. IT people of wincustomize, find the root of this stupid freeze problem please...

I guess it actually hasn't crashed but needing to shut down IE7 via task manager in order to unfreeze. It is close enough to a crash for me but it's not an actual crash. It's the google ads causing the freeze ups. ![]()

I never wait for the main page to load fully. I press stop as soon as I get the log in box. As a subscriber, I don't get the ads when logged in, so that helps the speed

I do not have constant problems with the front page loading. But if I try to go from there to let's say the wallpaper section, it just hangs forever. Really annoying! Of all the sites I visit on a regular basis, WC has historically suffered the most from performance issues. Mystifying to me.

Maybe I think irrationally but it would seem to me that getting the sites running like most other sites, fast, reliable etc is the most basic of needs to maintain a succesful web presence, It literally blows my mind that here I am, I dunno, 3-4 years later experiencing the same issues as I did when I first arrived. I dont think a day goes by that I'm not tapping my mouse in an aggravated fashion as I wait for pages to load.
I typically am on a clean'ish install, no toolbars, blockers, etc.. and its the same in all browsers.
I love it here but I find myself visiting, like some others, less and less.
There is nothing more I can add here. You guys said it all. I concurr and experience the same issue as Night Train.

I understand your frustration but I don't think it's the site that's the problem. I had some problems w/IE7 freezes. After much research, I ran Windows utility sfc.exe /scannow which checks the validity and intregrity of Explorer system files and replaces those that are corrupted or missing. You need your System Resource CD mounted to run this. It cleared up the problem immediately. Good luck

That would be fine except for the fact that it happens with all browsers, not just IE. I have the same issues using FF.

Yes.. it is the site. I've experienced these issues on multiple systems. Other sites do not do this.
The only other possibility is a router involved somewhere in the chain that people are hitting. Don't discount our findings. Those that have pointed them out are not dummies by any means.

It is unfortunate that there is no response from the powers that be other than the short one from ID. Unfortunately there was never a peep about the server transition being finished or not finished after the announcement that it would begin last Monday. As noted, this has been going on for a LOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGG time.

I agree.
I hope Stardock sees it as a problem with the WC. I hope there not in Denial.
That would be a problem then.
If it ends up not being a problem with WC. It still needs to be ivestagated why it is happening.

It's happened to me twice this afternoon, having to shutdown in task manager....and that's a first for me...also ridiculously slow tonight....(IE6)...
site has been up and down for a long while now....but this is unusually severe...something afoot....

Same thing here. I can usually get on the front page relatively fast, but most times, when I try to access either a gallery or the forums, the browser hangs and then stops responding...and I have to CAD out to close my browser. I NEVER have these problems on any other site I visit.
I, like a number of people here, strongly feel it is a site issue, not our issue, or else we would have the same problems on the other sites as well.
Running XP SP2, IE7.

I was wondering about ads... I don't get much freezes so far but same time I'm a subscriber for this site.
For this site and ONLY this site? I somehow doubt it...

I believe it is a site issue, and I also believe it will get fixed, eventually. I have faith that WC and Stardock will get it right. After all, the way I see it, they have no choice. I believe SD/WC to be at the top of the skinning community, and bound to stay there. Just a thought.

Yeah. Seems that whatever problem it was are gone. I haven't had a freeze for couple of days so far.

There is still a "major" update that needs to be done, and we should see significant improvements. It's just something that can't be done by flicking a switch, but should hopefully be completed in a week or so.

Thanks for the update ID!

Thanks Ron - but a lot of people now are not using XP much anymore. IE7 for Vista and just Vista is much different from this in XP. As for using FireFox there are other things that needed to considered.
The site will be hard to work with till the complete transition is complete. Thus everyone should be aware that issues are going to come up at any time till it is finished.
Be patient everyone!

I have had DA take forever to load up on me, as well as WC, ANS, and other sites. There are days when the front pages loads well, and the next page I go to hangs.......and hangs.....at all these sites. But, then, it could be my server, since I am on a remote....grrrrrrrrr
I am, as I am sure, quite a few at this site. I have not jumped on the Vista bandwagon, and that is even after the fixes they have done. I am sticking with the OS that works for me, and is stable.
K....had to get that out....it almost offended me....LOL

Well, as you can see we have 60 replies... I am in hope that this is getting noticed. Deviantart is by far bigger than this and Deviantart.com has a traffic rank of: 112 while Wincustomize.com has a traffic rank of: 5,045, and I never have an issue with that site. Like many others, i love coming here and being apart of this community. My member number tells you alone how long i have been here. I am just concerned and would like to see it fixed.
