IconPackager 4.1 Released

Stardock is pleased to announce the release of IconPackager 4.1.  IconPackager is an application that allows users to change hundreds of icons at one time on their Windows machine.  IconPackager uses packs of icons that can be applied at once, or you can change icons individually if you choose.  There is also integration with the Windows shell which allow changing of individual icons for files and folders from the right-click menu.

What’s new in IconPackager 4.1:

  • Added option to change the Connect To icon on Vista Start Menu.
  • Added option to change the Printers icon on Vista Start Menu.
  • Clicking the rebuild icon cache option will also refresh the desktop icons.
  • Fixed various issues

IconPackager is available as part of the Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancements, or as a stand-alone application.  A free trial download is available and you can find more information at www.stardock.com/products/iconpackager/.

before i EVEN try this out... Has the issue caused by uninstalling IP on VistaX64 been resolved?

My .ini file icon is still stuck at the SimpleMachines theme. Before, I did EVERYTHING possible (except reinstalling Windows) to get it back to the Vista default, and Stardock support wasn't able to help. I hope that this release fixes that problem. Also, does this release come with the Diamond IP by Paul Boyer, or is that just something that the guy in the screenshot bought?

I used a System restore prior to installing it, it still has shell issues and still wont change icons in 32-bit programs. (icons in the Save As dialog and so on, not the actually application icons) I have a feeling IP does not load the icons into the 32-bit system files and only does this for the 64-bit ones. To restore everything I simply reapplied the default icons and restored the system and it's back to how it previously was.

 

Kind of disappointing as I was hoping this update would address this issue.

On the last build if you uninstalled IP ( even after applying the default windows icons ) you would be left with MANY generic icons ( unknown file type ). Even after manual fix they would revert back to the unknown file type icon. The only fix was to reinstall IP and leave it on. Stardock support response: reinstall your OS. Ummm... nooooo that is not the correct answer. I ultimately did have to reinstall for another issue and have not put any SD software back on my system except DesktopX. I'm was hoping that a little more responsible testing was done with this build but from the looks of the support thread it seems that there are still issues. I really don't see why it is even being released and allowed to be installed on Vista X64 then. That is completely negligent if you ask me.

It's not an 64-bit thing, I've had the problem on 32-bit as well.

Didn't you know your a Stardock beta tester? This is why I stayed with version 3.20 They went from a great program with 3.20 to BS on version 4

Yes, I know that. This announcement however does not indicate that this is a beta release and yet we still see this issue apparently.

I really don't see why it is even being released and allowed to be installed on Vista X64 then. That is completely negligent if you ask me.

We looked the issue, and wasn't able to reproduce it.  We also asked for more information and was never responded to.  If more information isn't given, then it's harder to track problems down.  People say they have an issue, but don't open a ticket so it can be logged.

I put in helpdesk tickets and the official response was: reinstall your OS. Please don't sugar coat it like that. I've seen numerous posts by people regarding this issue and there is even a thread dedicated to the issue. WWW Link

If I where to uninstall IP through Impulse all of my application icons would become the standard default icon for Vista. As well as certain file types, dll being one of them. Now if I uninstall IP through SDC only the blank icon bug only occurs with DLL files IF the IP theme I had previously applied has an icon replacement for that specific file type it becomes the generic blank icon. This also happens to the DLL format if I try to reapply the default icons if the Ip im currently using replaces that filetype. Im not even venturing into the shell issue that still remains in 64-bit which hasn't gotten the attention I had hoped for.
