IE7 vs FF3

Default Brower

Sunday, August 24, 2008 by skybright | Discussion: Personal Computing

I am looking for information on those who use FF3 as there main browser.  I use FF3 almost exclusively except for the sites that do not render in FF3 correctly.  I need help in deciding which browser to use as my default browser.  Especially since some sites need to use IE7 but load in FF3 as default.

I have had FF set as default browser for over a year, as long as you have IE Tab, get it here , there is no need to open IE7, it will even allow you to run Windows and Microsoft updates using FF.

FF3 for me; I love the extensions. I've only encountered two sites that refused to work, and one was Microsoft, and the other was related to classwork and required me to install a ton of junk.

Thank you so much for the replies. Cavan1 thank you for the address to add IE7 in FF3. Another question I have...using IE7 in FF3 will it render my hotmail account correctly? That is a large part of using IE7 for. And also to switch to IE mode do I just click on the IE icon in FF3?

FF3 works with Hotmail without the IE Tab for me.

And also to switch to IE mode do I just click on the IE icon in FF3?

On mine, it's actually an icon in the lower left corner that's displays the current rendering engine. Click it, and the rendering engine switches to IE and so does the icon.

If you do get IE, I advise you to check out the excellent Adblock and Flashblock extensions, but I'm not nice enough to link them.

I just tried to download IE7 addon and I received an error message...could not download error 203. I do have several tabs open as I am doing research right now could this be the problem?

It took me several times of failed installations to get IE 7 installed. Then the disappointment of what they did to it set in. Now I'm using FF3 and haven't run into any site issues yet.

That shouldn't affect the download. Just try again later.

FF3 works with Hotmail without the IE Tab for me.

If I remember right it does either way, I have been using Windows Live Mail for months now.

You are so very right!!! I just tried my hotmail account in FF3 and it rendered it perfectly. It did not do so when FF3 had just come out and I had not thought about trying it again. Thank you all very much for you help.

I've been using FF3 for couple weeks now, and I'm kicking myself now for not trying it sooner. It has worked perfectly in everything I've tried. There's so many options, the add-ons and skins, etc. I'll never use IE again.

I actually wrote up my list of addons/skins, might be useful: Recommended Firefox Addons

Thanks for the tip on IE Tab. My FF3 (default browser) is now displaying my AT&T Yahoo Homepage correctly.

You need to register on the site, and install the experimental 0.91 version or whatever it is. That one works for me.
