Comment-bashing

Bad karma's around...

Monday, August 18, 2008 by Snowman | Discussion: Community

We have unfortunately seen an increase in negativity in skin-comments lately.

This must stop!!

If you have any issues with a skin you've downloaded, please make the artist aware of it either as comment or an email/PM in a polite way.
If you have any issues with a/any artist, please keep it to yourself or at least in private.
When entering this site, please hang any negative karma outside the door. It's not welcome here!
Remember, negativity breeds negativity. Give a negativ comment, then expect a negative response.

If you have any issues with a/any artist, and decides that you wanna bash him/her by badmouthing him/her in comments on a skin the artist has uploaded - forget it!
Doing so will get your posting priveleges removed, for a period of time. Keep it up and you will eventually be banned/exiled from the site - regardless of your status with Stardock/WC (Customer/subscriber).
Having baught a Stardock product or payed for extended access to WinCustomize - or even having been so fortunate to have been promoted to highest userlevel (Master) - doesn't grand you the right to be content/style/quality police!!
The only ones who police what's going public or not are the admins/moderators - no one else!

So in short, keep your comments polite, tactful and constructive if critisism, even if you dislike the skin/artist.
If you absolutely HAVE to bash a skin/artist please do it in private.
(Yeah I know, that doesn't make you look cool to your friends/followers/pets/relatives, but it keeps the site clean and happy.)

If you cannot/will not live by this then, please live by the old saying "If you have nothing good to say - say nothing".

Please keep WinCustomize a happy site

You were quick to jump on the misbehavior but seemingly ignored the causes. All I got was "we see all,we know all".pffft

It is my view that the causes were never fully addressed in a definitive manner and that led to the frustration and "misbehavior". Even now, the conversation remains about forum etiquette rather than addressing the questions raised by IR, vstyler and others.

If a group of masters feel that something is amiss and needs correction, I view that as fulfillment of part of their role to advance and promote skinning to the highest level. It is unfortunate that the obbession with the needless language abuses on both sides have deprived the rest of the community from actually seeing these issues properly sorted and the integrity of the "best of skinning" upheld.

I too have stayed away from the forums to avoid this type of thing but I would feel quite disappointed in myself if I were to see folks such as IR, vstyler and NT depart or lose their status without comment.

Skinhit said it very well:
What I do know is that three people I really respect(NT, Vstyler and IR) are up in arms and I seriously doubt it's for naught.

I think a lot of you are missing the point.  It's not implying NOT to make comments, it's the harsh negativity that has been going on lately.  Does anyone here think comments like "this f@#@ing blows", or "why do you bother" are helpful and constructive?  This is what we are talking about.

If you have a criticism of a skin, BY ALL MEANS MAKE IT KNOWN without the insults.

Just one last question for the mods...where were the red flags when you saw that 3(or more)previously respectable skinners had suddenly gone mad and were so badly 'misbehaving'?You were quick to jump on the misbehavior but seemingly ignored the causes. All I got was "we see all,we know all".pffft

Yes, we are quick to jump on the misbehavior before it gets more out of hand, and even worse than it was.  That is the immediately issue to take care of.  One of the "causes" is that people are resetting the skin dates for minor updates, that has been addressed with the moderators.  Much of this stuff is not for public consumption because it leads to flames and other issues that are not related with the problem at hand.

Fair enough!

After Andrew getting his panties out of order the other day I feel no passion to supporting the site anymore. Locking threads after calling people out is cowardly. Frogboy deleted a thread last week after making himself look like an ass, instead of apologizing.

At the risk of being overly simplistic.....all this is over a ******* comment?????

Sorry guys I would like to answer here with good reason and respect to you and your problem. But my only answer is this...

We have to respect authority and those in control of it. It does no matter who we are and what we have done. Those people are in control and do what they see as right. Yes - We have the power to influence them to see what we want them too. But that is it! If they do not see it our way then they have a reason or just do not see it as we do. That makes it to where we have either done it wrong at trying to make our point or just did not get it done in a proper manner. Where they would listen to us. A lot of times when people are not in tune with you. They tend to tune you out.

Plus like Yrag has said "All this over a comment?"

Ok so it was and is that going to be something that takes us away from what is the real reason for all of this. That and/or that of what was done or said in another thread by those in authority?

I would say "I Hope Not!"

Please guys take a break - go have beer on me if that will help? We do not want to flame you or make you feel wrong or upsetting you in anyway. Just that it always takes more than what meets the eye to get some things done as you want.

We have a lot of respect for you and your status as members with the fact how much work is done by you. It would be really sad to see something happen because of whatever reason to you and what you do here for this community. Please give PEACE a chance the ole saying goes...

For one the whole thing is just not worth it and yes we do care a hell of lot.

I only ask one thing...

Try to keep things good without being in the bad flow of these things. Try to respect those in authority. Try to see it their way! And most of all... If you do not?... Then let it go and go on with life in general.

It is never worth it to lose things for something so little. There are greater things to be thought of and worked on. Try to just let it go for now and lets see what happens tomorrow.
It is always a better day - so they say it is. But we can try to make it that.

Believe me when I say it will be - please believe me! It will I tell ya so!!!

Respect is always hard and just give it a chance. We can and will work things out in the end. So wait and see with the same ways we had in the past. Not as you feel about it now.

Be there and lets keep going NT, IR, and V ! You guys are the best we do not want to lose any of you! OK!

I hope that's possible, because this situation is really smelling bad.

Goodness people.

I really don't care about the feelings that one skinner has towards another.  Just keep it to yourselves unless there is a violation of rules in which it needs to be taken to PM with a moderator for investigation.

A wise fellow once told me the following:

"People will forget what you SAY, but they will NEVER forget how you make them FEEL."

Positive and negative comments are simply that. If put politely, civilly quibbling about this or that might ensue, BUT: If foul language, name calling, imputing low motives or mean and spiteful things are said REMEMBER: People will be hurt: People who are someone's son or daughter, father or brother, mother or sister.

Please be CIVIL! I don't care how frustrated and angry you might be. Count to 100, take a chill pill, take a walk. WHATEVER! Just spare us being held prisoner to venting whatever problem got your knickers in a twist.

Whispers are listened to, shouts only heard. Honey attracts more than vinegar.

OK?
