That was an excellent reply by HG.
I don't think it's that bothersome a trend to ask for how to get more karma points.
Someone is asking how to receive more karma points (read the subtitle of his post, he's asking how to get some), it shows that maybe there isn't alot of documentation available to users to find out how to get more karma or if there is alot of information, it isn't that easy to find possibly. A new karma system is implemented and some people are asking about it - I think it's probably a good thing, it shows users are interested in the new developments on this site and want some type of involvement. I personally don't think he was begging, it was a legitimate post from my point of view and he wasn't bashing anyone or arguing, it was a light hearted, fun type of question to ask in a unique way.
When someone asks a question and other people offer to help with information, that is good karma. Not just on on this site but also life in general. Karma is a very real thing to me, so be happy, be good to yourself and be good to others, what goes around does comes around.
Have a great day!

My point was that I have been helping around and stuff... and no one has been giving me Karma...I didn't mean any harm by it... just trying to lighten things up...
it should be a rule that if you don't like a thread you should just ignore it... (I do mean that with the utmost respect of course)

You missed your callin unclerob... You should try Marketing because that was one hell of a spin.

You can share the secret with me, I promise not to tell anyone else...how did you hack the system?
(before anyone flames me, the above is a joke. Zubaz is deserving of as much good karma as possible as he is one of the most helpful person on these boards)

Quoting the actual post...
You were asking for karma, you weren't asking how to get it. So even though I agree with unclerob in that there's nothing wrong with asking questions about the system, he wasn't addressing the content of the actual post. Please don't ask for karma in the future, regardless of the intent.

NT... I should be so lucky to work in marketing, sorry no marketing/ad exec over here, just an overworked sys.admin who tries to stay up to date on the many websites I love to follow.
If I didn't know better (and I probably don't), I'd think you were poking fun at me.
Now all I have to do is hack into this site, transfer your karma points to my account and then I'll be happy.
No I won't do that... I'm not a hacker and stealing good karma from someone else is not good karma.

I don't understand why you care, I've been on these forums for years, and my point specifically was that I HAVE EARNED KARMA....
why are you being mean to people on here...??? I've done nothing to you...
and I don't appreciate your attitude...

I care because; 1. I wrote the system. 2. I'm the primary developer on the forums. 3. I'm a Stardock Employee and I care about the community(ies) we run.
This speaks fairly loudly to the issue of users expecting things. Karma is intended to be handed out by other users who feel its warranted. Users must view your participation and choose to award you Karma if they feel it's appropriate. It's not up to you (or even me, if I am doing the posting/replying) to decide whether you (or again, I if in context) deserve or have earned it. I don't expect anyone to give me any Karma points for this reply. Though a user may choose to. The basic point is that it's not your call as to wether or not you've earned it, it's up to the community and individual user.
Take a step back for a minute and examine what has been posted in this thread. No one is being mean to you, giving you a negative attitude, scolding you or speaking to you with ill intent. Least of all myself. The worst possible thing you can do on the internet is apply tone to text. It's always a good idea to ask for an explanation of intent or an elaboration on a point if you feel that you may not understand its context or reasoning.
This is the last that I'm going to reply on this post. Again on behalf of everyone replying in this post, I apologize if you feel upset by the reaction, singled out in any way or insulted. Please understand that was not the intent. I feel I've explained myself fairly well and explained that posting asking people/the community to give you Karma is not something we want to see and that it defeats the meaning of it.
