New WB and SKS betas on OD (Impulse & SDC)
Saturday, June 21, 2008 by Neil Banfield | Discussion: Skinning
I just thought I would let everyone know about the new betas and mention some of the new features.
You can now create animated please wait screens - see please wait section under Edit Explorer/IE shell parts. You need to create animations in NWA format which can be done from the Tools->Animation compression menu item. This only accepts images stacked vertically so you will need to create your animation as a vertical frame sequence first.
The NWA files can also be used for startmenu animation though old style TGA files will also continue to work but NWA files are much smaller.
Another new feature to SKS is the layers tab on most controls. This allows you to use multiple layers for a given section. These layers have their own tiling and margin settings and can be used to achieve effects which were very hard or simply not possible before. You cannot use layers on window frames yet. Layers do not require the user to have the WB beta as they will also work on WB 6.02 and higher.
We have a document about layers here : https://www.stardock.com/products/skinstudio/SKSLayers.pdf

Well.. the process is easy enough
Ive attached an image of the difference, Neil can this be lessened at all? Honestly I think I would rather use a static please wait than a severely low qual. animated one.
The other thing I noticed was the difference between 0 and 30 on the compression slider resulted in a file only 3k different in size after compression.
Otherwise.. worked great and implementation was simple.

It seems it isn't handling single dots of colour correctly.
Could you mail me the source png/tga so I can debug it please.

Normalizeing filenames isn't possible in 6 as far as I can see so although renaming is easy.. it leave's a folder full of filenames from the previous skin when using SKS6.

As an update to this there should be WB 6.3 and SKS 6.3 betas going up later today.
There are improvements to the tree view but the layers tab is also worth checking out.

Anything on a 64bit bug that was reproduced and forwarded to the developers? I haven't heard anything on it for about a month+ now. It had to do the address bar becoming largely over-sized with certain skins.
