I completely agree. My Sanyo VI-2300 phone cost me $35, and can send and receive phone calls. That's all I want/need a cell phone to do. I already have a digital camera to take better pictures than any phone's built-in CCD array can take (and not take up lots of flash memory space in the phone, plus big download fees); I already have an MP3 player to play music with (and again, not take up lots of memory space, plus big download fees); I already have desktop computers and laptop computers to surf the internet with (and not incur more big download/connection fees for the phone); and I have a Palm if I need my calendar/contact list/basic handheld functionality. Why spend big bucks on a phone that has all of those redundant, lower quality, features (all of which cost extra to use) - plus if it gets lost/broken you have lost ALL of your connectivity?!

I'm so sick of the blagosphere creaming their pants over Apple's products. Like Mike said, gimme a Nokia N95 any day.
But heck - I don't want all those features in a phone. I can't imagine needing to browse the internet when I'm out and about - I want to be out and about. I've got an mp3 player that has much higher sound quality than anything Apple can put out, so I wouldn't want the iPhone's crappy music player.
Plus, I just like to be contrary and avoid the hyped-up fad that is the iPhone.

AT&T needs to make the service price a LOT smaller. (I'm not paying $59.99 per month on one phone! 
)

I don't believe that is actually the case. It ends up being close to a wash. The phone is $200 cheaper & the data plan goes up $10 a month, so over 2 years you end up paying $40 more than you would have with the previous Edge-network phone, and you have a bunch of new features (many of which will be also available on the 1st gen phones after the free 2.0 software update). As for the activation fee, I've paid one for every cellphone I've ever purchased, so it should be no surprise.
I'll be getting one in a couple of weeks & will let you know what I think of it.

The word out there is that you can only get the phone when you sign an inflated 2 year contract with AT&T. In the end your paying alot more for the phone.

I am the target demographic, I have the money to burn, and I love the little gadget, but as long as it is bundled with AT&T...never gonna happen. My blackberry is getting upgraded to the Bold or the touchscreen Thunder and my little iPod Touch is covering everything else.

Hell if Tracfones per minute prices are anything like they used to be (50 - 75 cents/minute) I don't think I can think of anyone I'd want to talk to bad enough to use one.

16.6cents a minute. I bought a card that doubles the airtime of all cards purchased after it with no time limit.It never roams on me either. And Tracfone works well in this neck of the woods, Verizon and Sprint don't.
