ObjectDock 2.0 any time soon?
Seriously, when was the last update?
Friday, April 11, 2008 by Aeon-Slayer | Discussion: ObjectDock
that is the ability to drag files/folders/links, etc INTO a "Flyout Menu" !! that annoys me so much!! You have go into the fly out menu and then manually add the files, what a pain! Just model 2.0 off of the new OSX dock -- that thing works well.
In Example for the above, i want a flyout menu called "recent projects" or something like that, where i can drag in files and such of recent projects, but as is now i have to creat a whole TAB to do that!! i don't really like that at all.
The other (less major) problem is the lack of a link to "My Network Places"...? whats with that? i tried to import it using the shortcuts option, but it isn't possible.
Oh, and another MAJOR thing is the complete lack of DECENT docklets! who wants to know what the weather is!? give me a WORKING RSS reader anyday (i use Yahoo! widgets for my RSS only now!). i have searched the web but havn't found any good third party docklets, so if someone could steer me in the right direction? or are there seriously NO good docklets?
Anyway, could someone please get back to me with facts about the reality of 2.0 (or above) / opinions about my ideas? Thanks

i realize that there is A LOT of work going into this, but i really think having at least a less broken fly-out menu would be enough of an edition.
thanks anyway,
Simon

Maybe I'll be surprised.

Shouldn't get even a handful if OD+ is as "the best thing since sliced bread" software it's being hyped up to be. Having heard all the positive stuff about it, I can't help but assume that people will be willing to splash the cash as long as bugs are fixed.

If I have to pay for 2.0 I'm done with ObjectDock...Using and skinning.

I do hope you're joking. I only just purchased OD+ this month and if I have to pay again for what will essentially be a stability fix I'll be furious.
As it stands OD+ is pretty unstable and I was waiting for the next release with great expectations. I figured my $20 would eventually pay for not having to kill it in the task manager and reload it five times a day.

As far as being furious . . you bought a single version of an app. One that had a free version you could check out. Buying it was your choice.
But . . OD+ shouldn't be crashing that much. Start a new thread so we (and support) can assist you in getting it working.

Excuse me? This is definitely the last time I buy anything from stardock. I find your attitude to be poor and considering you seem to be styling yourself as a staff member I'm going to assume you are one.
I shouldn't expect a smarmy "you fail" response when I'm just expressing a reasonable view all your customers will hold.
Furthermore, I don't expect to buy a piece of software still in beta and be told that I will probably need to re-purchase it to receive an update. I have no idea how far the charity of stardock goes towards free upgrades but when I purchased Objectdock I saw no obvious indication that I was purchasing a single point release.
Here's hoping you're not a representative of Stardock and you've got both your message and delivery entirely wrong.

ObjectDock isn't in beta itself, but it has a new beta version available for subscribers. For the standalone programs, that's generally how the license works. You receive free updates up until the next major version change (ie: you buy version 1.5, you'll receive updates up til 1.9, but when it reaches 2.0, that's a new purchase). ObjectDesktop on the other hand has a year of free updates, regardless of version change.
Depending on when you bought it and when 2.0 gets released, you'll probably get either a free update, or a discounted price. That's how it worked when WB6 was released from 5.5. People who bought it after a certain time frame got a discounted upgrade.

Well that's not too bad at all; it makes more sense than being told you lucked out. Thank you for explaining that.
Me and everyone else using Vista 64 don't have a lot of choice but to use the beta if we want to get the full feature set. As I mentioned, it's pretty unstable. Unfortunately I can't narrow it down to one thing so a support call isn't going to be useful just yet.
I had a good look at ObjectDesktop before realising it didn't have anything I wanted. I think Objectdock must be Stardock's most useful product at the moment, even if it's not the most popular.
Thank you again for a clear reply!

Being this far out, I doubt the upgrade path has even been discussed yet. As Bebi stated, typically when you buy anything from Stardock you get free updates up until the next major version change, which in this case, would be 2.0.
I would still suggest contacting support, just so the problems you are facing are logged.

Again, I apologize.
Bebi, Island Dog, thanks for being more clear than I.

It's in our plans but we are so hammered with projects that it's going to be awhile still.
