Show off your Impulse skin!

Take that, green!

Friday, March 21, 2008 by Bebi Bulma | Discussion: Skinning

Yes....that's right. Who thought it would be sooo easy to skin.

It's as simple as replacing the images in Program Files/Stardock/Impulse/Skins/Images* (3 folders) and editing font colors in the skin.xml. So easy even *I* could do it!

TIP: When Impulse updates, it WILL overwrite all the original images that you changed. Take a tip from Snowy and rename all your modified images (I just added [s] to the end to know they're mine) and then update the changed image names in the skin.xml and save a copy somewhere, so when Impulse updates, all you need to do is replace the skin.xml. I just tested it and worked great. (Impulse updated and it was green again, gah!)

So let's see your skinned Impulse.

Mine (just some basic recoloring and changed the back.jpg):

It's so purdy....

Sorry, if it is so easy then when isn't the function available without haveing to go into program files? Not everyone wants to do that.

Why can't it just be skinned by the WB you are using? Have selections available in one of the windows/screens of Impulse?

I'm sure there are alot more like myself that are really LAZY

Damn, and I was forceing myself to like Green and Black!!!

ZubaZ: The wallpaper is X-Caliber Blue, by sreeejith at DevArt.

Philly0381: I don't think Stardock necessarily set out to make the interface skinnable as such, so it's totally conceivable that it wasn't meant to be a single-click process here and there, but being customizers, we like to pick and prod at places we're not always meant to go.
Have a go at it. It's easier than it looks. Really.

Exactly. New skinners have it soft   Us 'old timers' know how to put together a skin from a few images and an .ini file... Seat of the pants stuff...

That's the problem with new programs like SkinStudio 6. People may be able to put a skin together, but they are not learning the art of skinning.

That kills the fun in skinning. I had much more fun using Notepad than SKS.

Seemsd like it would have been easier to have WB skin it and have a one click background image replacement button.

Who said skinning was easy tho..
