I'm suprised no one commented on the new Icon Packager version 3.90. I noticed it when Impulse updated it.

Yeah, I see it, but there's no History link to find out what's new. I generally check that out before deciding to download.

Also wondering if there is a reason why, when using the browser in Impulse to go through the forums or Wincustomize.com, there are home, back, and forward buttons but no refresh or stop buttons.

Edit: When I made this post it took its time posting which made me realize there is also not a progress bar of any kind.

Yeah a status bar at the bottom would be nice.

D/L'd & installed Impulse, got the 'successfully installed' message.

Left "Launch Impulse Now" checked.

Clicked OK, got this:

with this error signature:

XPP SP2 with all updates through 3/08.

Regarding SDC updates vs. Impulse updates: They use two different backends I think so you will see updates on Impulse that aren't on SDC and vice versa from time to time.

Ahh..cool. That explains a lot.

Jafo is still having issues...IE it does not run.

Apparently installs, though.

Have switched to Exploder...and since uninstalled...and cleaned reg and temp files....will do a new download and start afresh.

Jafo crosses fingers...

Nope.....gets a few flickers from cursor arrow to busy and back but nothing.

Same as always...so it's gotta be something else.

Downloaded and installed fine, after I let it through Kaspersky numerous times. Kaspersky also complained of "Password protected files" during install.

At the end of the Install I clicked on "run Impulse now" but nothing happened.
I started up manually and Impulse ran fine, and immediately asked to be updated again.

On my system (Vista 64bit) Impulse doesn't recognize that I have CursorFX and ObjectDock installed. Everything else is recognized.

As a test I updated something that I wouldn't need to reboot for, and updated SoundPackager:
Update went smoothly, but after the Update SoundPackager shows up under "My Desktop" as being "recently installed", maybe that should be changed into "recently updated"?

I also couldn't find a Link or Button to the History-file before the update. Will this be implemented in the future? As a "64er" I always check whether the update is compatible with Vista64 or not, and I would sorely miss the History-files.

I love the new registration tab (oopps my OD runs out in April!) and the red Updates tab. As a general impression: It looks better and feels smoother and more refined than SDC.

However, I find it generally harder than in SDC to keep an overview over my installed OD-applications, as they are now in a two row system. I miss the sorting ability of SDC and an ability of changing this layout to "detail" (everything in one row, with the tag "installed" or "available" and the version-number right next to it).

As another poster mentioned, some of us do use the History tab and rely on it to tell whether an update applies to us or not. Right now some users are on XP and some using Vista, and those of us with XP wouldn't necessarily want to update to a potentially less stable prerelease with a Vista only fix, whereas Vista users probably would. During the time when there's such a mix of Vista and XP users, that History tab is more useful than ever. If you don't want another tab cluttering the interface, could we get a mouseover which has the update info or something? I would love that.

I had the same issues with the updates not always being updates and with SDC and Impulse not matching. Am sure that will be fixed quickly.

The interface isn't really my favorite colors. It's slick, but olive and dark greens are unpopular with a significant number of people. Many people associate them with poison.

The only feature in SDC that won't be in Impulse will be the skin browser. It's just too much to maintain and adds a lot of size requirements to the program.

Will SDC still work to browse skins? That's the main reason I use it.

Just found a few things...Some of the purchased and registered products I have can't be added to the registrations because they are not showing up in the dropdown list of choices...such as Carbonix skinpack & Universe Metal.

Another one was ...updated Iconpackager...which looks great by the way...through Impulse...and noticed that with Paul Boyers Apogee icons which contains about 14 subpacks it only shows the first one and you can't choose any of the others...unlike the previous Iconpackager which had the dropdown for these. Unless of course I'm missing something somewhere.

Other than that I'm getting used to this Impulse!

Installed flawlessly. Picked up my account info automatically. Self-updated and restarted just fine. I like the splash screen telling the user it is updating and applying the upadtes.

On the updates page I find this one disconcerting issue. WB on my machine is a higher revision than on the upadtes and yet Impulse sees mine existing as older for some reason.

Installed beta: 6.09f.[b].130
Available beta: 6.09d[b].124

I think I'll not install for now, huh?

And then while I was typing this, Impulse crashed while trying to download Deskscapes new build, simultaneously trying to verify Icon Packager download.

I restarted Impulse and when it came back up WB was no longer listed, and all the updates I had selected now showed done. Then in a matter of a few seconds everything verified and showed installed.

And then after switching to "My Desktop" there's the older WB listed again.

Shows updates available for a lot of apps, yet the actual versions are not all updates, some are. The sample in the image shows the same version as I have installed

A lot of the updates are showing here but not in SDC - is this one running a little "ahead" then on the beta versions?

Also - am I just missing it, or is there no longer a way to view the "history" to tell what's updated in a new version. Quite important for those of us who run the betas to know just what is coming with a new beta to determine if it is worth installing.

As per Snowman. Obviously, still in Beta. Green is somewhat in your face and clashes with other colours......should really be more neutral to enable focusing on the information at hand.

I'm one of the few that likes the GUI color choices except for the store page. The colors don't seem to meld well IMO...specifically the right hand side.

Haven't and most likely won't test the downloads but, functionally have no problems since updating Java.

Seconded.

Technically I don't think this is the thread to mention this but, thought I'd ask.
Are there plans to implement some sort of beta testing/tracking and feedback into Impulse? I think this would be very helpful to both Stardock and customers.

For example:
- listing known issues maybe with a button option to indicate if the user experienced the problem
- upload new issues, etc.
