Did the earth move for you?

About 50 minutes ago the house shook violently, windows and doors rattled etc. It's just been on the BBC that most of England has been shaken by an earthquake. No damage has been reported yet.
If you were in a quake zone you probably wouldn't take much notice, but here in the UK they are rare. Interestingly, it's the second in two days...
So, if you are in England, did you feel it?

I've been in a house destroyed by a tornado...but never an Earthquake.Bet thats freaky.

Just seen it on the BBC News. Looks like it was felt throughout the country. Hope everyone's OK over there and not too much damage

Yup ... actually had a fair shake for a few seconds ... and my monitor fell over !! ( I have it sloping back from me ..)

4.7 isn't that big....when you get into the 6's...then it's a shaker.

Not from the UK but a little town called Elko Nevada,US. About 50 miles down the road is a town called Wells. On 02-21-08 they had a 6.4 with a 4.2 aftershok a hour later. The house here shook for about 60 seconds.It made the National news and from the TV pictures there was a lot of damage. No body was hurt. You just never know whats around the corner

Born and raised in California, anything under a 4 and we didn't get out of bed. Beed through many, watched the building accross the street split into 2 parts. Think I'd rather have those than tornadoes.

Same here, and I agree. Earthquakes are usually few and far between, and the big ones are even more rare. Whereas with tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards etc...they're a yearly occurence.

I live in Southern California and lived through the heart of the Northridge quake, etc. We have that kind of shake once a month here or so. I hope everyone is OK in the UK.

Yup, about 01:00hrs I think it was, too busy trying to work out what the heck the bang was to be sure. Short & sweet as if a big rig had just hit the house, only without the dust and debris.

glad to see yr okay fuzz......my only experience of stuff like that was when i was in shanghai a few years back......the whole building just starting wobbling like jelly......i had no idea wtf was going on until after and someone told me........

I lived in Southern California and have been through a few earthquakes there. Mostly just shakers. Here in Northern Missouri we have frequent tornados. A few years ago my two daughters and I were taking a drive when the sky turned black and the rain was pouring down so hard I had to pull over. Then came the winds blowing hard; my truck started shaking and I told my daughters to start praying that we would be safe. I did not tell them until afterwards that a tornado had just passed by us.
Scary stuff!!! Serveral miles down the road the tornado hit some farms and just leveled their crops. A huge loss for the farmers.

I just spoke to my parents who live in the North East of England and they felt the "quake" although they are miles away from the epicentre which was in in Lincolnshire.
My Dad said it lasted for about 5 or 6 seconds and that the local news reported it as 5.3 on the thingumy scale.

Yup, a 5.3. There is quite a bit of structural damage, but not severe, and one man was injured when a chimney fell on him. Apart from that everyone is ok.
