Forums are Back Up

Monday, February 18, 2008 by Zoomba | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Huzzah!

We've completed our work for the night and the forums are back up and running.  You'll notice a number of visual changes, and you'll hopefully notice improved speed and general performance.

Please post any issues you run into here.  We've done a lot of testing this past week and tonight, but if something slipped through we want to know so it can be fixed quickly.

Items not functioning at this moment:

  1. Recent Posts List on the Sidebar
  2. Featured Articles

Fixes are coming for these tomorrow.  For now, it's getting on towards 5am and we want to get some sleep

Thank you all for your patience.

I'm using the Web Browser in SDC. The forums posts are not showing if they are new posts or new replies, just a blank box shown in recent posts.

Ive noticed the grey backgrounds are back behind all the images after being fixed the first time., like Online\offline, reply\quote Wizop badges etc... XP, IE6, all threads.

I'd like to take a second to thank whoever had the idea to have links be blue and underlined instead of the the dashed gray line.  Much easier to see and understand function.

I did kind of like the external link in a initial topic underneath.  I read the authors text and my eyes are already traveling down the page.  Now I have to track back up to find the link.  Looks good and I'll get used to it but I think it's a break in the flow.

When I hit enter to move down a line to space out the text it is not working unless you create the line break yourself with < br >.(minus the spaces between the < and the letters)
I also find that if you edit an edited post, your edited text reverts back to the original post.

While the new layout of the posts looks cleaner and more organized, there seems to be one casualty: less room for the post content. The actual post content is now sandwiched between the poster info on the left, and the sidebar on the right. I personally never really use that sidebar anyway (anyone else?), the channels list is kinda useless since it's easier to just access everything from the forums home, as well as the full recent posts list (used the most).

If getting rid of the sidebar altogether is too much of a gamble, how about an option (for subscribers?) to not display it at all, allowing for more room for the post content. Would seem to be a better use of that space (IMO).

I like the Recent Forum Activity section.  During busy times I use that as much as "View all recent posts"

Oh, and why isn't the Customer Level included on the user info on the profile page (it's there on the personal sites)?

dont know if this has been brought up. I have not read this entire thread:
When viewing "My Replies", the My Last Reply and Last Reply fields are identical.

Dunno if this is an issue or if it has been questioned. After clicking 'Recent Forum Activity', I can no longer see which threads I've read. Is that something that was done away with? Maybe it's just on my side  Maybe it's been written about already and I'm being lazy OK, I'll read all three pages. I shall return

REALLY bothersome not being able to go to last post read\replied to.. having to go to last page.. scroll down etc etc... my replies 'feature'.

Also still seeing grey backgrounds behind all the images in all threads and aformentioned OS's\browser's etc..

I'm assuming it's all still being worked on?

Keeping the faith tho,

Another bug: when viewing someone's profile page, the "Wincustomize site" link just appends the user name to the end of it, and in some cases this ends up as an error, such as Erk's site. (Had to use you as an example) http://users.wincustomize.com/Erk. obviously won't work because of the . at the end of his username, and that's not the proper url anyway.

Now that I've edited this post and had to go to the last page to see it, when I try to click on the "view all recent posts" link it takes me to https://forums.wincustomize.com/post.aspx?g=recent which results in the "post does not exist error." The proper link should be https://forums.wincustomize.com/?g=recent. Seems to happen whenever I do those steps. (After testing, don't even need to edit, just open a thread with multiple pages > click on "last" page, and the "view all recent posts" link leads to post does not exist.)

Got 2 more forum bugs for ya Zoomba.

1. When I make a post, then click on edit to make some changes, then click on submit to resubmit it; it vanishes into that big ole WC wormhole. Poof! Post gone. Gotta start from scratch.

2. When I click on insert web link button the url window opens up on the top of my FF tab, half stuck under the tab window. insert url window hidden window thingy

I'm on the latest build of FF, WinXPPRO/SP2

Update on the vanishing edited posts. They're not! When you open a post and it has more than one page, it still defaults to the first page so I usually post a reply on the bottom of that first page.
The firs page of the post refreshes with my new post on the bottom. As usual I see some need for editing.
I click on edit and resubmit. That first page of the post is refreshed with my post missing.
The post was pushed to the last page of the thread but my FF browser remained on the first page of the thread so I thought the edited post was disappearing.
Don't know if you can do anything about this, but it will cut down on some double posting. Doh!
