SP3 install error Q327101
Help me! I need to install SP3

Hi. I am currently runny Windows xp pro SP2 and I want to upgrade to SP3 (Service Pack 3). But when I go into the installer it says:
The core system file (kernel) used to start this computer is not a Microsoft Windows file. The service pack will not be installed. For more Information, see Knowledge base article Q327101 at http://support.microsoft.com.
I have been to the site and i have done what it says to do. I have Google-ed it but it does not come up with any answers

If you have used a 3rd party boot or logon randomizer like tune up utils then this will stop sp3 from installing ...All you need to do is open up tune up and goto screen customisations and put the logon and boot screens back to default as these are microsofts own screens and sp3 will be accepted ..once you have run sp3 you can then change your boot and logon screens to tune ups own........

dont uninstall tune up it still leaves the screens on your pc even tho you dont see them any more.

if any part of your previous attempts at installing these files should be removed.
once that is done, boot into "Safe boot w/networking and try to install once again".
This is what I had to do to fix mind while talking to a MS tech person.
It has to be installed in safe mode because of some of the changes it makes with MS files
