Hardy Hardy Har... Me Has A New 19' WS Monitor
my Chrissy present to me.....
Wednesday, December 26, 2007 by starkers | Discussion: Personal Computing
Well, as always, the conversation gravitated towards computers and etc... and the next thing I know I'm walking out with a new ViewSonic 19' LCD monitor for AU$250. I think Pat was just as surprised as I was... he was showing/telling me about this new Gigabyte mobo that'd go perfectly with an Intel Core Duo I've had my eye on for a while now... and the next thing he knows is that I'm handing over the cash for the monitor... no warning or indication I was even interested....
OK, so it was an impulse buy, but I'm as happy as a hog in muck with my purchase and just had to come crow about it here cos I felt like so much crap yesterday.

Oh, and before anyone says: "Why didn't you get a bigger one?"...my eyes are real close together and I wouldn't be able to see both sides of the screen...'specially when I gits meself all cross eyed on the Playboy site.

Nah, truth is, a larger one wouldn't fit in the pigeon hole on my desk, not with my speakers as well, so the 19" is perfect and just what I wanted... and my regular 19" Samsung is now hooked up to another rig I just finished assembling from mostly old parts, just got to load XP Home and Ubuntu on it and I have me a spare to play with.
Well that just about covers it for now, so see ya's 'round like a cartwheel.

Yeah, more is the pity... and always strategically placed so's it makes you wanna upgrade to the premium subscription... without staples. Damn that Hugh Hefner! I mean, it's not like he's broke or anything... and he gets to see all the 'unstapled' centrefolds up close n' personal, like

Oh dear... what have I started here!!! We're told that size doesn't matter, and here's me advocating that bigger is better... and maybe giving lesser endowed folk an inferiority complex. I mean, there was a time when 14" was considered more than adequate, but with all the advancements that have gone into chip and implant technology in recent years, folks who can afford it are able to tote ginormous screenis... up to 36", even.

Yes you did... and of course you just had to go one... er several better.

Neither am I really... but having a PC set up for multi-media pretty much makes a second monitor essential. I don't watch a lot of TV (cos there's too much 'reality crap on), but I do like to keep up with the rugby league and cricket (Lost and Stargate Atlantis when they're on) and having the dual monitor setup allows me to do that without interrupting what I'm doing on the PC.
Here ya go...
AMD Athlon 64 x2 6400 @ 3.4ghz.
Gigabyte GA-MA770 DS3 mobo.
4gb of Corsair DDR2 800 RAM.
nVidia 8800GT GPU @ 512mb.
Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Pro
x2 LG DVD RAM Drives
x1 Samsung CD ROM drive
XP Pro/Vista Ultimate dual boot.

I was going to get one just like that... but the missus reckoned we should wait until they get all the black squares off the screen before investing in one.

Thanks Cynders... haven't seen you around for a while, so it's good to see you again.

When I got cash... er, any day that ends with an a n' a y.

I'll go LCD when they pry my pair of 21" Trinitrons from my cold, dead hands. I like being able to run at whatever resolution suits me/the game I'm playing. And Trinitrons are ultra-crisp compared to any other type of CRT.

Each to their own, I suppose, but my LCD's are ultra-crisp as well... and I like the additional room on my desktop that LCD's allow. I still have a 19" BENQ CRT monitor and will always keep it as a spare/for when I've finished building another spare rig, but my main rig will always be a flat-screen setup now that I've indulged.

You can still do that on a LCD... although the native resolution on my 22" is 1680 x 1050, I can/could run it from upwards of 800 x 600 to the native resolution if I wanted to, not that *say* 1024 x 768 would necessarily display the best.

Now is this screenis envy we're hearing... er, reading here???
I know what you mean, tho!! When I still had my 15" CRT, I wouldn't undress it in the computer room... cos everybody else's was bigger 'n mine.

You know they say that if you have to brag about it, then you're making up for a shortcoming somewhere.

Some of us are secure enough with our screens so that we don't need to show off.

Yeah, Po has already drawn attention to my shortcoming...
... but climb on the bandwagon regardless - publicly ask how a pirate ship with a short mizzenmast even gets going - if you must.
