(1) the services may be curtailed to cut costs ... this is the US Government we're talking about (Remember Medicare/ Medicaid?),

(2) the services stay the same as present but paying for it brings a new higher tax.

And I thought our idiots in Canberra couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery... seems your idiots are just as bad, probably worse. If Oz can do it with a piss-farty population that pays considerably less tax than the aggregate of the US, which has vastly greater resources to us, then it should be possible for your gov't to provide universal health care, as does ours.

Get Bush and his cronies to cut the present and future invasion funds so your military isn't squeezing the guts out of Treasury, and you'd have the best possible... second to none health care on the planet. Justify the disappearance of all your hard earned taxes with the preservation of life, rather than the senseless killing of a war machine with an over-inflated budget.

That will be up to the Democratic Congress ... they control the purse strings over here .. but they're not likely to do so, seeing as they haven't so far.

Also they're not exactly what you would call cronies of Bush, they can't stand him for the most part.

Sad, isn't it, that elected officials never grasp what it is the voters actually want...

... they promise to listen, to do this and that, but at the end of the day there is only one agenda self-serving politicians are interested in... their own.

To give an idea of just how low I view them, regardless of which side of the political spectrum, if I saw a politician 'barely' treading water, I'd throw the bastard an anchor.

I'm guessing that'd be the Irish blood in me from way back... being I detest corporate, political and legal establishments with a passion. They've been screwing the little bloke for centuries because the majority of the upper echelon lacks humanity, compassion and have very few... if any redeeming qualities.

what slays me is that they don't let a bill stand on it's own merits. They constantly attach other items that desperately need passed to bills that only serve the interest of a few. It's sneaky, underhanded and plain wrong. There isn't a damn thing " we the people " can do about it either. The polls prove that.

There are always things "we the people" can do. Keep in mind the problems of today did not happen overnight nor can they be fix in a snap of the fingers. "We the people" unfortunately shirked in our duties and responsiblities to get us to this point.

Got to remember the Civics, History and Social Studies classes. I always remember the tests in those classes were the hardest.

Funny thing this comes up...think it was Nostrodamus who predicted revolution in the Land of the Eagle. Trouble is, it won't be peaceful... too many guns on both sides of the fence for there not to be wholesale bloodshed.

Live by the sword, die by the sword... but there's no way a die-hard who 'lives, shits and breathes the right to bear arms/kill or be killed mentality is gonna accept that the attitude is fundamentally flawed... at best perverted, corrupt and evil. The families of the Omaha mall victims wouldn't need any convincing... nor the families of the victims of that idiot who went on a shooting spree at a Colorado church because security asked him to leave.

Nobody will ever convince me that the right to bear arms concept has one iota of sense, not when 'those who have a bad hair day/can just crack' will go on a shooting rampage and kill/maim dozens of innocent people. It might be for different reasons, but the gun play on US and Iraqi streets is not a whole lot different... both situations are insane because people are needlessly dying... and that sickens me to my stomach.

The best thing the American people can do for themselves (and the world) is get rid of satan's butt-plugs at the next election... refuse to vote for any of them and watch the idiots self-implode in a state of panic and confusion.

Without executive orders, the military cannot legally declare war/invade anyone... meaning the pigeons wouldn't then feel the need to come home to roost, as someone once put it, and everyone could stay home and mind their own business... true peace at long last.

Guns are not needed for human violence. Look at what the Australian Parliament has to say about domestic violence in Australia. WWW Link. There is more publicity to violence in US than what goes on in the rest of the world.

that would be good BUT
I am sure their is something there that would let that same prez to just stay in for an 3rd term
yes i know they can only be elected 2 time but if no one was to vote then would he get to stay?

dosen't take a gun to go on a killing rampage and kill/maim dozens of innocent people. it just could take a CAR.
So then would this to be something to take away?

come on son we are going hunting. But dad, guns are out lawed! No son, we are just going to kill them with the family car. LOL

True, a car could be used as a weapon... and often has been, but it would be ineffective in the confines of a church, whereas the convenience of an easily concealable gun would make it considerably easier to kill/maim a greater number of that congregation.

It would take greater effort and deliberation to do the same with a car, therefore it is impracticable improbable and a gun will remain the weapon of choice until it it removed from use by everyone... except for perhaps police in emergency situations. Works for most of the Western World and it'd work in the US too... if nobody's got guns there's no need to own guns to defend against guns.. but there'd be too many nuts who'd still refuse to give up their weapons of choice.

"Dust off and nuke them from space.

Nah, castrate 'em... let 'em choke on the force fed sweetbreads.

As long as the democratic and republican parties exist and are allowed to manipulate your thoughts, nothing will ever change. They are opposing forces that while slinging mud back and fourth, unite to squash any new parties that develope.

Grass roots is laughed at and never taken seriously because the 2 parties will surely alter your perception.

I won't tell people who they should vote for. I can say this as I experienced it directly as I live in Masscahusetts. Mitt Romney is a joke. When he ran for Governor of Mass, he said over and over again that he would not ever run for president. Well less than 1 month after being elected, he started running for president, leaving Massachusetts in the dust. When he was running for governor people were concerned about his lack of experience in politics. Now he's running for President and the only experience he has gotten in the past 3 years is learning how to run for president.

I hear it everyday..

Hillary gets the Woman's vote...
Obama gets the black vote..

Someday a smart candidate might get the smart vote but not in the America I live in.

Heck Bill Clinton was going nowhere when running for Prez...until he changed his hair color. His popularity skyrocketed after that.

Seperation of Church and state is the biggest lie ever. Religion is so intertwined with our government, there is no chance of ever seperating the 2.

As far as Haelthcare goes... as long as we can go the store and buy cigarrettes, then drive across the street to get a baconator......

For such a supposedly great and powerful country we should have at the very least universal health care for everyone.
I disagree with this though.

Why???? If not for the wealthy (don't need it anyhow), at least for the mid to low end of the socio-economic scale... then everyone would be able to afford to see a doctor/get medical attention.

We've had it in Oz for donkey's years now... meaning a vagrant who needed anti-biotics could rock up to a hospital and be seen/get treatment... none of that 'got insurance' first.... 'piss off' if you haven't.

Trouble was, because of the 'so-called' free trade agreement, there were arseholes in your country trying to get our arseholes to abolish it. Hopefully, the new government will tell 'em to piss off... Oz is a sovereign state and should not have to kow tow to foreign corporate greed/government interference in our domestic affairs.

Besides, being that things have taken a horrid turn for the worst, mrs starkers would be up shit creek in a barbed wire canoe and crowbar for a paddle... in dire straits if we didn't have public hospitals and universal health care.... all I can say is thank God we don't live in America.

I didn't think I was going to weigh in on this thread at any point, and I won't much, but I do have to say that I think the two above posts by Sir Starkers, profoundly OT as they are, make a whole heck of a lot of sense.
