You know...I just love it when someone throws this gem out there as a solution. Why? Because criminals don't obey the laws in the first place!!! Criminals don't buy guns legally! They're criminals! And they could care less if you write "another" law...which they won't obey!
Writing more laws only makes it harder for law abiding citizens to obtain guns to protect themselves from the criminals and gives the courts more ways to screw you...the law abiding citizen. Ain't that a hoot!
Here's some thoughts on how we can "possibly" make people more responsible for the guns they purchase. If you buy a gun...you are responsible for that gun until it is destroyed/melted down. This way people "might" take greater precautions in safe guarding the guns they purchase in the first place and prevent them from being stolen. If you don't safe guard them and they are stolen....you are still responsible if it ends up being used in a crime and should receive the same punishment as the criminal...period.
You should NOT be allowed to sell your gun to anyone else unless you sign off on it in the presence of an authorized gun dealer and all background criminal checks are done. If you sell it to anyone else without doing that...you are still responsible if it ends up being used in a crime and should receive the same punishment as the criminal...period.

Minimum wage is a joke in and of itself. What's federal min. wage now? $5.85/hour? How is someone supposed to live off of that? Especially if that someone has a family, medical expenses, etc...
Most min. wage jobs don't offer great benefits. And if they do, how the hell are you supposed to pay for insurance out of a paycheck that is only $234.00 BEFORE taxes ($5.85/hr x 40 hrs.)????

Most people that work for min. wage, probably don't have insurance offered. Wal-Mart hire most of the people as part time so they didn't have insurance. And those that did, it was high priced. I thing I heard on the news that they will start offering insurance to all employees. But 1 thing that gets me, check the tags/boxes/packages and see where 99% of all the stuff comes from. China, where everything is tainted with lead. Hum

Quite frankly....Wal-Mart is the least of our problems.
I would much rather see people focusing they're attention towards government and getting someone in there that is not an embarrassment and more than anything not of any religious belief. I've quite had it with this stuff.....it gets us in more trouble than its worth. For such a supposedly great and powerful country we should have at the very least universal health care for everyone. We're forced to pay outrageous health insurance prices for inferior health care...and some of us can't even consider paying for it.

I disagree with this though. The problem with the healthcare system is cost. And most of that cost is due to overpriced schooling (to a lower degree) and medical malpractice insurance costs (to a higher degree). Legal reform would do more than anything else to improve the system. I'm also seeing a number of doctors have stopped taking health insurance at all. They have been able to reduce their staff dramatically (not having to process claims) and have been able to lower their costs and the costs to their cash-only patients.Vote as much as you can, especially locally. I work I.T. at a hospital. Here's another one that is ridiculous. A PC which runs a DOS based patient care application has to have all of the hardware government certified. There is nothing at all special about these PC's. They are quite generic.
If a hard drive goes out and you need to replace it you are FORCED to purchase a replacement from specific vendors which will charge unreasonable prices. A 40Gb hard drive would cost several hundred dollars if not a few thousand. You could get the identical part elsewhere for $50.
On the Education cost. Now why is it that you see so many foreign doctors that barely speak English. They get a lot of their education for free whereas our citizens have to struggle for years to pay it back.
It's ALL tied to the almighty $$ as Night Train points out. People a lot farther up the ladder MUST have their 3 vacation homes, yachts, and expensive cars at our expense. Anyone that thinks politicians are going to truly represent the people on the basis of morals will be sadly disappointed in the long run.

It's not so much that the health care is inferior .but more to the fact that the insurance company's restrict the doctors to do the right thing.
Example that was on the news a few years ago
a 4-year-old boy needed leg surgery on both legs to be able to walk right and the Doc. that could do it was in a different State and the insure comp.
stated that it was a not needed surgery (an elective) clam was denied. that is BULL SHIT.. but people got together and raised the money so that he could get the surgery that was NEEDED.

Why???? If not for the wealthy (don't need it anyhow), at least for the mid to low end of the socio-economic scale... then everyone would be able to afford to see a doctor/get medical attention.
We've had it in Oz for donkey's years now... meaning a vagrant who needed anti-biotics could rock up to a hospital and be seen/get treatment... none of that 'got insurance' first.... 'piss off' if you haven't.
Trouble was, because of the 'so-called' free trade agreement, there were arseholes in your country trying to get our arseholes to abolish it. Hopefully, the new government will tell 'em to piss off... Oz is a sovereign state and should not have to kow tow to foreign corporate greed/government interference in our domestic affairs.
Besides, being that things have taken a horrid turn for the worst, mrs starkers would be up shit creek in a barbed wire canoe and crowbar for a paddle... in dire straits if we didn't have public hospitals and universal health care.... all I can say is thank God we don't live in America.

Eating rice and living in the dark is just an expression we poor people use.
As far as living beyond my means...not by a long shot. Even before my health situation I go to work and come home. I don't go out to eat...I buy store brand food...I don't leave lights on all over the house...I live as cheaply as I can to "try" and save money. And even if I was literally living in the dark and eating rice...$20.00 "a year" can hardly be considered living beyond ones means.
