Self promoting premium skins in the forums.

Continuation of the other thread.
The issue at hand was summed up by Zoomba in the other thread.
The thread is about what is and isn't OK to post on WinCustomize; forums, news, skins etc. that might border on the edge of unacceptable advertising or spam. Do Masters get a bit of leeway? Can non-masters sell their stuff on outside sites and advertise it here in the forums? What are the limits? What's fair to both the community at large, and the skinners who have contributed free work for years?
I feel that now is the time to discuss this as a proactive approach will save some trouble down the road.

Being a Master here at WC is one of the highest and most honored positions. Those chosen are from what I see, of the highest fiber and morality as well as being "all for the community". They are entrusted that they would act in the best interest of WC and the Skinning community at large.
I nary to think a master would ever abuse his position for personal gain..But if it should ever arise, I would imagine it would go the same as it would for any other Ranked WC member..Apprentice etc...
I see no harm in a little self promotion, as long as its not detracting from the site/community as a whole.

That would be my personal preference and sentiment on the issue, as well. So if those were the rules (i.e. only Masters can do it) I don't think there would be a wide-spread problem of exploitation, seeing as how most of the Masters wouldn't take advantage of the community.
Then the only remaining issue would be, 'does the skin have to be uploaded to this site as well?' After thinking about it, I think it'd be safer to just say 'yes, it does'. Or, at least there should be plans to upload to WC if it isn't already. You can't always rely on common courtesy when you're thinking long-term; things change, people change.
I'm still ruminating over a hypothetical where the Master was in good-standing with the community and the site but just didn't upload here anymore (it's a stretch, I know, but I still think it should be considered or discussed). How would that Master go about informing his friends/people who might be interested, that are part of WC, without making a post here? Email all of them or just hope the word will spread?

The way I see it, only masters SHOULD be allowed to sell/promote skins on this site. If it's for the betterment of the community, then wouldn't a majority of the members understand?

Where there is a will there is a way...Smart marketing and a good product goes a long way towards success. I have gone from a couple of hits a day to over 3500 daily in a few months, I expect that number to grow as our body of work grows. I feel that if your work is of the highest quality then yes.. the word will spread. Realistically my site will never be close to the amount of patronage at WC though and because of that the Master program affords me an extra outlet to a larger audience in trade for a % of the profits. I also think it is important to continue to provide free community suites as repayment and as a sign of our gratitude. I personally like the way things are set up right now, Its fair and everyone wins.
