Add some "ear candy" to Windows

Stardock has released SoundPackager 1.0.  SoundPackager makes customizing your sound experience in Windows easy. It works by allowing users to download and distribute pacakges of sound schemes and apply them to their system.

SoundPackager includes an easy to use editor for making sound schemes that can then be packaged up and shared with others. There are already dozens of sound packages available to choose from with more being added daily.

SoundPackager also comes with several premium sound schemes. If you've gotten tired of the Windows XP or Windows Vista sound schemes, then definitely check out SoundPackager to see the additional options.

SoundPackager is a free download. It costs $19.95 to register or registered as part of Object Desktop which includes other applications such as WindowBlinds, IconPackager, and much more.

Any plans for adding more functionality? There was a app from the Win 9x days that let you add some sounds to events in software that didn't officially support it. Wave Events

That would be a great feature for SoundPackager!

At this point "any" functionality would be great!

I think one of the folders is for the sounds that come with the package and the other is for ones that you download


Yeah...thats what I mean...things are getting to spread out.

I have SoundPackager as part of my OD. I gave it a try, with my Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit OS. It works alright, but there is one major problem with it. It pretty much sucks. Most of those sounds are pretty annoying. I ended up muting my speakers, then uninstalled the program. If you don't mind annoying sounds when you work on your PC, then this program is for you. I couldn't imagine spending $20 for this. People that do that, need their little head examined. I suggest you try it out before pissing away your hard earned money.

No Philly...still not working. Waiting for a response from support. But I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it...it would just be nice if it worked just to try it out...I already have my sounds customized the way I want them.

It works alright, but there is one major problem with it.

Translated: It works great but I don't like it

If you ever need a second job let me know your eloquent and diplomatic approach to everything is astounding.You know I build and install custom home theaters so maybe you could explain how to run them to my customers,they tell me start over again only in English this time!

WebGizmos I understand what you are saying, it's a program that not everyone will be interested in or use. It's also the only one so far in the 3 or so years here that I had any problem with, which when you think about it ain't bad.

One of the things that can get a little annoying is that some of the sounds are longer than the function they are attached to, hope that made sense. Since you all ready have customized your sounds you may not need this. Like everything else it needs someone to go into it and explain how to use it, modify the sound packages, combine some of the packages etc.

Philly...it would be nice if it at least opened and functioned correctly. I can't even get it to do that. Once I can get it open....which it did the very first time I downloaded it when it was first released...but didn't have much in it to play with just yet...I can figure out how to use it easily enough. Since the last update its been trashed. And unfortunately for me its not the first thing that hasn't worked right and not gotten resolved. IconPackager has been flaky for me from the start...then IconDeveloper basically became useless for me.

The support answer I got back about SoundPackager wasn't helpful at all. Basically...."Use SDC to download things"...oh really? No mention of SoundPackager or what the problem is. They need to work on these support responses and "read" the emails.

I wish I could offer some more options, but it looks like you tried everything.   Is the error you are getting similar to what I tried to link you to in reply #20 above?   

How about going into IRC and ask one of the Stardock reps, Milksama helped me.

While I'm biased but anyone who thinks the default Windows XP sound scheme is better than the Stardock 2008 scheme included with SoundPackager needs their head examined.

I hope I can get a chance to check that out! And I agree the default Windows Sounds are kinda blah...which is why I changed most of mine.

Your're allow one of those a day Frogboy. Guess you might as well call it a day, pack it up and go home.   

Have to agree with you, just about anything is better than the default Windows XP sound scheme and Stardock 2008 is not bad.

Right now though I kind of like female voices coming from my system, but than I am alone alot!!!!!!

Buttermaker, if ya don't like it don't buy it. Personally, I agree with frogboy on this one. The Windows default sounds are lame. I'm just glad to be able to change the startup and shutdown sounds. I was to the point of never turning off my comp again.......

Unfortunately I have yet to get this to work at all and I'm still waiting for supports second shot at answering my email as to what the problem is.
