Moderators, read here!

Monday, November 5, 2007 by sublime187 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

im not saying this to aggravate anyone of you but i would like to tell you my ideas of moderator ratings and protocols.......
and i do consider the fact that a bunch of people uploading causes the need for more bandwidth or site performance issues.and i know that can possibly be why you guys are so strict on what gets uploaded....(i might be wrong) BUT:::

when a skin or wallpaper goes through "moderation" it shouldnt be judged by moderators in a sense of quality it should only be judged on copyright infringement protocol, and antiprofanity protocol.

you should let the consumers/end users/downloaders choose wheather its good or not and how can anyone do that if its stuck on a non directly accessed site which is its makers profile?? if it were place in the gallery automatically the maker would know almost within a few days if its any good or not! one persons likings are different from anothers.

more simply put, if the moderators dont like what you have rendered or made in a illustration program or whatever you use, it shouldnt matter to them! because thats the moderators opinion, not the opinion of the people downloading!

for and example, i actually browsed all the way from 5 star- to 2stars and saw all kinds of professionaly done wall papers and skins rated at 2 stars! and some of the two star rated content was way better than the 5 star stuff!

im finished bitching you ge my drift!

It's a picture of a butterfly. I was gald to hear it (there's money involved) so last night my wife and I went to see it. There it was on it's own display with a fairly large ribbon. I have to say I was a bit surprised to find that it was hung upside down.

Congrats Lantec - you have to admit there is a degree of humor in that upside thing .

Art is always in the eye of the viewer ..

Did you tell them ???

The judging took place late last week. Seems it's been upside down the whole time. Laura was concerned they might not have liked it as much if it was right-side up...........

I had 2 others make honorable mention. One's a Intracoastal waterway scene and the other is a Reddish Egret (rare and endangered) Neither was hung upside down.

theres a lot of bat-er-Fly's in Ausie land ?

DA???? I rarely go there for walls as im looking for "daily use" wallpapers, not pictures of grannys teeth in a jar. while in retrospect it may be art.. it's not something most users would want as a wallpaper...

WC strives to maintain a library of PC usable wallpapers. thus Photo's of a cat goin poo and jimbobs's barn dance etc, are rejected.

Only photos that are deemed Usable PC wallpaper are allowed in and those are far and few between..

the Mods and Masters are thus for a reason, they have served the time and know the score..I trust their judgment and decisions as I have rarely been disappointed in the quality of the WP section.

Of thousands of Photo manipulations/renderings I have on my PC, I have 3 in the gallery that were worthy of being Walls, and if asked by a Master or Mod to remove them I would gladly. their Opinions I hold in that highest regard..

I hope this enlightens your thinking on the Walls section and its moderation...

Sincerely HG

Po - that has now been investigated and removed.

Anyone can contact a moderator if there's a problem, either by e-mail or PM.

Last night I had a PM from someone at 10:50 regarding a rip. I picked up the message at 10:52, did some investigating (wasn't hard to do...) and at 10:55 the item was gone and an e-mail sent to the uploader.

Moderating can be that efficient

Fuzzy, want another job. I hear DA have some openings

geeze luize i go to get outta the house for tha day and i come back and see this!!! this is too much lol im laughin my frigging eyeballs out! i guess this is a touchy subject after all!

-----i am not saying that a moderators opinion isnt right i just meant it shouldnt count because the likings,, dislikings of a few (im shure moderators take up about 10% of WC populace,,, so a few) could jeopordise how many people see it and decide for themselves imean its kinda like and advertizing strategy:::: you put it in mainstrean view, therefor you can (figuratively speaking) throw your lure into everyones face and see if they take it or leave it!
well thats the way i think it should be....

------ im not that upset about it, im just trying to see if other people have my opinions about it.....imean i am a subscriber! if i didnt like this site, you all would have shouted "man overboard" about a half a decade ago!

-----I would use my art,it may not be filled with heavy shading techniques,or have glossy, transparent qualities, but in my views, art is art there is no right nor wrong, bad or good, detail is the only differential that is a passable judgement in detering anyones art. and even that is just a view from someones point. its not bad if it has less detail than the next one! am i right...or was i born yesterday?

bottom line is im ok if my art is unpopular! i guess im just a show off whoes lightly bummed out because he cant show everyone what he has made, like a little kid would be!

Thx eveyone for your say! please keep commenting on if you want! i still read every forum or topic i post!

DA is a "Art" site that caters to Desktop customization as well....there fore most forms of art are readily accepted..IE photos etc..

WC is Strictly a "Desktop customization" site which caters to specific Art that is well suited for PC customization..hence most traditional art like photos and such are in small quantity..

Hey Kenwas, I'm sure a fair share of people might have been fooled into thinking a couple of your walls were real.. awesome work.

(im shure moderators take up about 10% of WC populace,,, so a few)

There's never been more than around a dozen or so 'moderators'....whereas the current number of registered Wincustomize.com Members is nudging 3 million ....[will likely pass that before the end of the year].... so the percentage won't be 'quite' 10 ....

It is a rare moderator that moves "main gallery worthy" skin to personal pages.  Skins that are  . . questionable . . are tossed about between moderators until a consensus is built.  Skins can be appealed.  PM a mod you like who might like your work.  Ask why they think it was sent to your personal site.  Listen to what they say.  Who knows, they may just make it public.

If you get a bad initial rating from a moderator, it will change based on the community.  They are the real power here.

As far as seeing what other people think . . . this topic comes up every now and again.  And good points are made for no moderation.  Those points are valid at other sites.  I's just one of the things that members here acceot or move on.  I think, for the new and regular members  . .  it's a value add to only see the best very best WC can offer on the main gallery.  It also gives new artists something to strive for.  The same goes for Island Dog's Pick of the week and pick of the montf (in dreams).
but in my views, art is art there is no right nor wrong, bad or good
This isn't an art site as HG pointed out.  Some art (most art) does not make good wallpaper.  More art-for-art is acceptable as bootskins (where the user doesn't have to interact with the canvas (the same is true to a lesser degree with logons).

In any case . . keep skinning.  Do what you like and you may either get better or develop a following that likes what you do.  As long as you enjoy making them.  it's all good. --From this post (not exactly your theme . . but we've been here before  )

OK THEN ROUGHLY, (i shouldnt ever try to use percentages because then people get technical) there are more people that arent moderators on this site and i never said photos were art, photos are a persons perspective strictly! i guess i wasnt born yesterday, i was born 2 hours ago appearently!
your right HG Eliminator! this is a site that caters to desktop customs!

no matter if its photos or art, as long as it is photos or art, its ok to use as desktop customizing paraphenalia! it could be a friggin audio snippit for Ch***t sake!
its still desktop customizing isnt it??

also it doesnt have to have an interactive canvas...if i wanted to, i can use part of some ART i make, like say if i use a photo of one of my hand drawn pencil sketches...i could use that to make a skin!! i already did! its not anywere close to being finished but its possible! so far i can say that i do a lot of drawings and i do free hand pecil sketching very well way better than i do rendering/freehand on a computer by far!

if i shall customize my desktop with hand drawn art that has been translated into PNG, TGF, JPEG or whatever files with multiple frames for animation, it certainly can be usefull if not nice to the eyes...OR both!

desktop customization isnt confined to CG or 3D rendering, vector or any other non natural or electronic in or of origin.... i dont see any statement anywere on WC saying that art isnt recognized or is not welcome

but like i said i was born two hours ago what do i know lol
