WindowBlinds 6 Beta Feedback

Wednesday, August 1, 2007 by Neil Banfield | Discussion: Stardock Support General

Please post all feedback about the WindowBlinds 6 beta on this thread.

Note that the beta is for 32 bit XP and Vista systems only.  Please do not post about it not working on 64 bit XP/Vista.  Please continue to use WB 5.51 on those platforms.

This beta is for Object Desktop customers ONLY.  Standalone WindowBlinds 5 owners will not be able to activate this build.

Please note that you must have Stardock Central 2.46 Build 154 or later to install the WindowBlinds 6 betas. If you try and use older versions, it'll eventually timeout and give you an error about an invalid URL.

If you have problems with it running at all, please uninstall WB6, reboot and then try reinstalling WB6 again.

The mouseover colour for start menu items is incompatible with the start menu item mouseover image.  You can have one or the other on XP.  On Vista you get both.

Curious if anyone else is seeing this.....
Since the last update all I get in the way of shellstyles if the basic blue not matter whether I have the override setting checked or not. I even changed it to "always use the shellstyle defined in...." and it won't take. It's happening on both my home system and my work system.

Wbui.dll 2007/07/24 10:21:06
Tray.dll 2007/07/24 10:21:49

Edit:
After some testing.....if I load the Diamond skin it stills show basic blue, but once I reboot I get the Diamond Skin shellstyles. If I change skins I STILL get the Diamond Skin shellstyles so now I'll try a reboot to see if they change to the Mirage Shellstyles........

I was beginning to think I was loosing my mind...........
I just caught it changing. If I open say "My Documents" first after a recent boot then the shellstyles are there. As soon as I change to "My Pictures" the shellstyles become unskinned or change to the basic blue. Then every subsequent window I open with shellstyles has the unskinned look. Even backing up to the original "My Documents" window show the unskinned look.

Am I the only one seeing this? I see it on both my systems....

Lantec...

Does it matter what skin or shell style it is you are using?

Thank you Neil Banfield - Now I can look at doing a slight change if I want that to work seems. Gona give it a try here today and see...

You have saved my weekend for better things with your reply "Sir"! Thank you very much!

Lantec, could you please open the skin folder, backup the it (zip all)
and then look for to files with this names:

NS_Shellstyle1.UIFile
NS_Shellstyle2.UIFile

...delete 'em, reapply the skin and check if you still get the problem
(if you do, you can copy the files back).

Sayan of Darkness:

See the word I bolded & underlined for you in the quote above...

It is a BETA release ...one should expect bugs when using/testing a beta software product. If you find no bugs/issues, then all well & good ...If you DO find bugs/issues, then that is what this thread is for...

Some people are bound to have issues, software does NOT behave identically on every machine it is installed on.

Didn't work.....
I was using Ares, removed the files mentioned from Acrylic and then applied the Skin, checked and there was no change, still basic blue. I rebooted just to be sure but My Documents came up without skinned shellstyles on the first try.

I am unable to apply any skins using WB6 and Vista Business. After choosing a skin and clicking Apply my changes, WB6 goes thru the motions but nothing is applied even thought it appears to be finished applying the skin. Any suggestions??

I don't know if this has been answered yet, but Windows Media Player 11 doesn't play nicely with any skin that is applied. I can load WMP, but all I get is a blank, white spot over what is usually the library, the now playing section, etc. I have it on my exceptions list right now, but even that's making it do some interesting things... Anyway, here's my info:

WB6 ownz, WB5 was a big innovation to XP - WB5.5 on Vista was a flop though - and now WB6 rules completely in both XP and Vista. There no real complains to do about WB6 beside the Blur/Transparency settings need more work. Blur need to be able to be changed in terms of amount of blur, not just transparency. And Per-Skin blur settings are needed too.
Otherwise WB6 is top!

(Now, we just need a DECENT SkinStudio6...)

NEE77: It is unlikely we will be adding any sort of control over the level of blur.  On Windows Vista blur is either on or off.

Just a small thing - I would like to have an add skin and delete skin button on the main screen, the dialog box is great but not too userfriendly imho

And 2nd -please let us decide where wb6 will be installed

And 3rd - I did install skinstudio 6 after wb6, no when using option in wb6 -edit skin- wb6 takes me to stardock webpage insteadof skinstudio 6

Add skin and delete skin are on the main dialog (Install skin from disk and Delete this skin - they are on the preview)

The edit in skinstudio option will not launch SKS6 as right now it does not set the associations for .UIS files.  The final version will do.

Will WindowBlinds 6 allow us to put the scroll bar arrows together at one edge like Mac OS X allows? I have been waiting for this feature forever.

@Neil

I know, but before there were just two buttons to do that - looked easier ()

Sad because on some Skins a lighter Blur would be needed. Ohwell, WB6 just Rock anyway and nothing can be perfect.

danilloOc: I get no "restore" button in the titlebar when I maximize any window using the new Diamond skin, with "Never use per pixel borders on a skin" checked. When this option is left unchecked, I get the restore button on maximized windows, but - as you say - the titlebar is intentionally shown as black. Same on two computers, already deleted the .WB4 files.

Neil is there any update on when 64bit support will be added to the WB6 beta? The front page now has a countdown to release date, and we still don't seem to be getting any love from you folks on the 64bit side!
