How to Rip Off Logons
It Never Ends I Guess...
Wednesday, July 25, 2007 by boss0190 | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
He didn't really understand what he had done wrong, and I guess I can see why from looking at the site.
I don't speak Polish, or whatever language that is, but it's a pretty detailed explaination of how to change the background, the name of the logon, the creator, etc. and how to save and post it as your own.
Sad, just sad I suppose...kids just don't grow up with any morals anymore.

It's possible, but it have to be someone from this forum. Doesn't matter.
A little tip for future: before you accuse someone in public, try to dissolve your problem privately without unnecessary confusion. It will be simple and civil.

and why would anyone need to make a tutorial on how to make a log on, when you can get that from here, the creators of the program.... i read the other one, and to me it simply explains how to rip one off.... if you felt people needed a tutorial...simple email or post a link to the software creators site, they'll get a much better explanation anyways. and why would you need to edit a logon with your own picture etc, when it reality it is faster to take your picture and make a new one anyways.
SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POSTING, BUT EVERYTIME I TRY TO EDIT MY PREVIOUS POST, IT TELLS ME IM A IGUEST EVEN THOUGH IM LOGGED IN.

as we have been reminded in the past.....this is an ‘adult site’.....been into a schoolyard lately?......most the little darlings use language that would make a sailor blush.....think they’re safe from any permanent scarring on this forum......besides, that message was sent privately and inappropriately reproduced here.
Zagorskid, as you are now a member here.....if you were to consider posting this tutorial here, would you not think of asking boss’s permission to use his work as an example given the sensitive subject matter of altering anothers artwork?....or to perhaps ask for his thoughts as to how to approach it given that you must think highly of his work to have singled him out in the first place?.......and if so, then why would you have not thought to do this before posting the tutorial with his work front and centre on the existing site where he finds out about it from being redirected from a rip?....a bit of communication goes a long way.....
easy to say for some......for others, a lot of work goes into them, especially when you’re learning. After making plain logonstudio logons for a while, I am now learning how to make the splashes with boss’s assistance....when boss started making them, he had little to no assistance and spent a helluva lot of time laboriously working it out for himself and honing them to become the cream of the crop they are. He spends a lot of time generously sharing that knowledge, without hesitation when asked, with people who genuinely want to learn and has had so many rips of his work that he has even supplied the general public with a basic one for them to build on.....WWW Link
still the rips, now with encouragement tutorials....no wonder he gets utterly bloody infuriated.......
I’m sorry Zagorskid, your intentions might have been pure, but it came off looking really dodgy. You’d be better off doing tutorials to help people make them than “borrow” them!

You think Boss got mad about this, wait til he sees a logon with his name on it that says "Gay Power!"

Ditto Boss show me how made them too and if change the name of the logon or author or edit the theme.ini is easy change the UIFile is NOT easy.
I talk about the UIfile cause all the hard coding work by Boss is there to make the splash logon and if you take a little look in there you'll understand why/what we talk about...
Yes maybe/certainly you have made this tutorial to help others and unfortunately someone did get the picture when you said that is only for personal use...
Concerning the email thing i know Boss a little and i believe it's NOT is spelling

(too kind
)<---- Joke
Surely another people but i can't believe that could be someone here...
Do you have think that could be one of those "amoral childs" who have after read your tutorial made a personal use logon and share it in an other site who unfortunately found that was a RIP...
But maybe follow the council of ShelbyGT:
That email is posted from a server maintained in the central region of Texas here. It would seem the poster may have used a proxyserver to do so though. But it would be good to see what if any they find for that mail.
That and it would be good also that any tuts for working with logons be wriiten in some better fashion also. The information at hand you have provided is very short and sweet. But that is for those that do not use the newest forms of logons which can not be changed in anyway shape or form. That or they stop working completely!

No it isn't as long as it is not redistributed. I've done that myself countless times, and I also change WB-skins as I seem fit to, but only for personal use.
Creating a tutorial that shows the newbies how they can adapt skins to their own gusto is certainly not wrong at all.
There are tutorials here on WC that show you how to create a compact start-panel from a downloaded WB-skin, and how to save this as a new sub-stile. I don't think anyone would get the idea to flame the author of this tutorial if someone were to upload such a compact sub-stile as his/her own.
The only error Zagorskid made was that he used one of Boss's logons as an example without asking for his permission first. It would have been smarter if he had used one of his own creations, and maybe he will adapt his tutorial accordingly.

Yeah...I won't be putting my foot in my mouth anytime soon on this issue because I'm tired of this song. Morally inept kids are a product of their parents. Period. Americans needs to take responsibility for their own problems and quit trying to lay blame on the other guy/gal.

I do not think so and have checked to find where and who.
You may have another problem yet to show itself.
And as you said to Boss
Might be a good idea to practice what you preach!
Errors are errors - but seems some do not do so becomingly...

I know it is a stretch but even when non-distributed it still can be of concern to the original author. Lets say someone makes a logon that has an minor in a provocative situation. They are arrested for child pornography. The police aren't going to care about who changed what. Your name is still attached to that work as an Author and you will have some questions to answer. Good luck getting them to believe you.
All I am saying is that if a work is altered, the original Author's name should be removed. Even if it is for personal use. The original Author will not care since it is not being distributed and then there is no risk to them at all.

Point taken. I think the tutorial should state clearly that logons modified in such a way are not to be redistributed under any circumstances.
Someone who really wants to distribute anything illegal in such a way will probably either enter a fake name or insert a name of a known skinner anyway. I am not a cyber-cop, but I think the first person who would be under observation in such a case would most likely be the uploader of the file, especially if a simple Google search would show that the original Author has a squeaky-clean gallery. But I understand your concern with having your name attributed to something illegal.
Now, if only I could remember which skins I have tweaked for myself during the last couple of years.

Altering one image in a skin does NOT alter the skin's ownership.
Whatever the language, that instruction must be clear....

Nothing at all. Bad example. Because I am not homophobic at all, I only saw humor in the statement. I never claimed to be a comedian. Just an ass.
