Smiley Central? :) or :(
Totally awesome or a load of ad/spyware?
Thursday, June 14, 2007 by Lassan | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk
I want to use smiley central but apparently it's full of adware and spyware. I searched them forums here and only found one thread and that was pretty old.
I used it once upon a time and I think it was awesome. But that was on my old [pathetic] computer and it was really slow anyways so I can't really tell if SC had any impact. But I don't want to infect my laptop.
So what d'ya say? Should I get? and is anyone using it? (coz i think i can recognise some of them)
Dank-ish

Then I go to a photo-hosting site like photobucket or (?), and store the ones I want to use there. That gives me a link to copy in a post I'm making.
I also have a folder on my desktop named "gifs for posting", with the link from photobucket and a name for each gif/smiley. If I want to drop one in a post, I got to my desktop gif folder, copy the link(only, not my name for it) and paste it into the post. Voila.
example:
lilsaxophoneguy(my name for it)

creates this

That method may be handy but it also may infringe on artists' copyrights as it is a method of redistribution, not personal use...so it'd pay to check restrictions of your source/s ....

Been wondering about that, and to tell the truth it's been nagging me now and then that I may be violating the ethics of the whole thing by posting someone else's work. Thanks, jafo. Checking the restrictions of the source, and also contacting the creator(s) prior to public posting would be the appropriate way to go. Otherwise it would be/has been a rip every time I post work that's not mine. Think I'll move that desktop folder to remind myself to check with the artists first...

seldomseen, that's a good idea [apart from the copyright problem as mentioned, i guess] but it's just too much hassle for a 15y old high schooler who tries to super duper multi task while doing stupid, pointless coursework.
Quentin, Thank You! the program looks pretty cool and I'll try it. Just need to find the download button.. a little help, please?

It's kind of sad that a program like SC is basically useless because of all the bloatware.. o well.
EDIT: found the download link. This program is great! Somebody has to translate it in english! except.. is it possible to integrate an emoticon in MSN without sending it as a transfer file thing? because it asks to transfer files [emoticon] which is not really great.
But an excellent app, Thanks Quentin!
EDIT EDIT: Actually, it's not posting in forums, says something in french then minimizes to taskbar..?

From what I have read most anti spyware/adware programs will identify SmileyCentral and MyWebSearch as spyware/adware and remove them from your pc.
Don't sully your laptop with this junk.
