NHL & Stardock Team up

Hockey themed desktops a reality!

Wednesday, May 2, 2007 by Frogboy | Discussion: WinCustomize News

Stardock & the NHL have teamed up to produce NHL themed desktops!  These desktops are being released under the MyColors(TM) brand which includes both the theme and the enabling software to run them.  They come with a fully skinned graphical user interface (title bars, push buttons, scrollbars, etc.), a Start menu, Start bar, wallpaper, media player gadget, weather gadget, replacement icons and more.

Everything you need to make your desktop look like your favorite team.  The NHL teams join the growing list of themed desktops produced by Stardock Design that include a number of NCAA teams, car themes, and more.

The themed desktops are only $19.95 and require no additional software to use.  They work on Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Visit MyColors.Stardock.com to see them all.  More to come soon.  You can read the NHL press release here.

These are some nice themes. how do you figgure out if you have the latest version of the program MyColors? and there seems to be a problem with compatibility with MyColors and Windowblinds. Since I have had MyColors when you change skins in Windowblinds it wont change until I restart my PC! And then I read that if you uninstall MyColors it will also uninstall Icon Packager, and windowBlinds!

Switching between WindowBlinds and MyColors can be a bit of a pain in the butt.  We're working on that right now (it's one of the reasons we haven't been promoting the MyColors stuff on WinCustomize very much yet).

The upcoming MyColors Manager will soon automatically detect which software you have and make use of it.  But it isn't out yet.

Frogboy,

Thanks for finally giving us some info straight from the horse's mouth on this point. This weird OD-MyColors jiggery-pokery was making me personally quite leery of installing any MyColors content, and I believe a number of WC users were wondering about how this issue would be resolved.

Way to go PO'   FLYERS are my team.

I hope you guys are talking to the NFL. An EAGLES theme would be great.

I don't blame you. It's been a major topic here too.  Once the new Theme Manager is done, you'll see a lot more promotion of this kind of thing.  It's just difficult in the installer to deal with all the permutations. Better for the software itself to be smart than trying to get an installer.

It does work okay if you have Object Desktop and THEN install MyColors. We've gotten that far on it (as you noted, early on, the two didn't get along well at all).

Whelp, I've been waiting for the hockey themes. I'm buying the Bruins set for my husband for our anniversary. He played amature hockey until he was 50 and would have continued to play if it weren't for bad knees, bad back, etc.

I must be crazy for doing this, because I still haven't forgiven him for turning on a Bruins game on our wedding night 24 years ago!@^#%$(*&^#$@%#!!!!

That don't work for me, I have a real conflict with MyColors and Windowblinds. I hope the new version will address the not loading WB skins without restarting the PC. If you don't restart.... Windowblinds only skins half of what it should.

You know, I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here BUT, you don't have to wait until a theme manager per se. If you own WinRar you can unzip the exe file into a folder with the same name, then rename the file with the .suite extension to .zip and unzip it into a folder with the same name and WALAAAA you can install it all without a theme manager! Other zip utilities may work, I just used WinRar to do it with. However, I couldn't make the gadgets work without running the 'MyColors_setup.exe'. Anyway, hope this helps somehow. RAD

It's $20 because it includes all the software to run it.

Yep. Plus the licensing which is a big thing. That's why a T-shirt of your favorite team often costs $30.
