who is your hero........if you have one?

I just wondered, who had them, who didnt, and if they did, who were they?
I got a couple actually, felix the cat.....well because he is just COOL, and you gotta love his lil
magic bag of tricks......
My dad cause he went to nam......and because hes my DAD (bias hehe)
and bette davis, cause she was just so damn gorgeous with a cig in her gob and that attitude..*sigh*

OK, so to answer the question....My hero would be my mother! She managed to raise my brother and I(and raise us well I might add) as a single parent, kept her sanity, and loved us unconditionally... I truly saw "heroism" in her...And would be lucky to be half the parent she is!

I raised my son & daughter as a single parent - seems I did an ok job cos they turned out great - but they'd have to be the heroes in this case....for surviving me.
I just wasn't cut out/born to be a single mother (wrong gender), but warts n' all I saw that they got what they needed....if not all they ever wanted.

I made a thread like this years ago..so i will share my story here too...
My story begins in 2004. My mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was given between 1 week to a year to live. When we heard the news, my wife, while juggleing a part time job and 4 kids, took every spare moment to care for mom and see to her every need.
I would go to work at 6:00AM and she would be up with me getting the kids breakfast and off to school. Then drive over to mom's house and take her to radiation therapy, do whatever shopping mom needed done (the cancer was in her brain so mom could no longer drive) and help mom with various chores around the house. She would then get home just in time *1:45PM* to greet my daughter as she climbed off the school bus. While waiting for the other kids to get home, she would clean the house and get ready to cook dinner.(she would cook extra and take it to mom). when i got home at 6:00PM she would be finishing eating as she got ready to head out to work. she would be at work til 11:00PM. and would get to bed at 12:00..this was her daily routine 5 days a week for about 6 mo's, til mom passed..she never once had a complaint , her only concern was making sure mom was happy and felt loved..
This is why she will always be a Hero to me ....

I could name a dozen people who have been heroes to me... but I'll just name the biggest few....
1. My mother. She was a woman so amazing, you could not even imagine. She was the most selfless person you could ever meet. Not only to me and my sister and 3 brothers, but to everyone. Even perfect strangers. She befriended battered women at a nearby shelter, gave them clothes, gave their kids gifts on Christmas. She was a penpal for 15 years to a man in prison who just needed someone to care. She gave and gave until she had no more to give. Cancer took her from us on Christmas day 2005, and through that battle, she still thought of us, her family. She said just wanted to live past Christmas just so she didn't ruin the holidays for us. She was a hero in every sense of the word. Selfless, caring and a fighter.
2. My dad. You can only imagine what he went through with my mom's illness. They were married 50 years, and were the most loving parents I could have ever hoped for. My dad taught me how to be a man. Not a truck driving, beer drinking, deer hunting kind of man... a real man. A man who loves his wife with everything. A man who's not afraid to cry. A man who puts his God and family first. I'm not ashamed to say, I've become a pretty good husband and father, and it's all because of him.
3. My wife. For all the reasons you would imagine, and also because she's a teacher. They always say you marry your mother, and my wife is alot like my mother. She is selfless almost to her own detriment sometimes. She teaches junior high school, and is a wonderful mother to our 2 sons. And she makes me feel like the most important man in the world everyday.
4. My cousin Jason Sparks. Jason was 19 when he was killed in Iraq in September of 2004. He was in the Army, and had been in Iraq less than a week when he was shot. Jason had just gotten engaged before leaving to basic training. He made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we as Americans take for granted everyday. He traded his life for our safety.
