So, we have quite a few suggestions and there appears to be some very positive 'vibes' about the way forward.
I guess we now leave it to Jafo, Fuzzy, Zu, Wom and the other 'elders' of the site to decide what is best for Wincustomize, the Moderators and the members. We look forward to hearing the outcome of their deliberations and a new era in Screenshots where everyone is catered for and continues to enjoy participation in an important area of our community.

Since DesktopX allows you to export as a Vista side bar gadget I cannot fully agree with your statement. Once more DesktopX users migrate to Vista, I feel certain more will be converted to Vista gadgets.
To give an example, here's one you created as a Vista sidebar gadget... WWW Link
Personally, I find them easier to keep track of when they are filed in the Vista sidebar folder.

I find it interesting that no one's mentioned the more regular updates in this thread nor have many folks stepped up.
hum

People like to moan and groan about stuff but never seem willing to step up.
I'm pleased at least someone is making an effort

P.S. It would be helpful if more folks followed the guidelines set above. There's some nice stuff being upped but with little to no descriptions or links to the skins used,it makes it hard to recommend them.
Keep up the great work all

Perhaps if those guidelines were posted on the upload page for screenshots, more people would be aware of them.
As it is, this thread is probably the only place those guidelines have been announced and a lot of folks may not see them or be aware they exist.
Kudos to you, HG

Agreed and granted. I'll see if I can't get the guidelines added in the next release of WC.
However, the loudest critics were here . . .

Just trying to grasp all of the guidelines and comply, that's all.
Isn't that what the staff want?

With respect cp - that's way too workplace
There are folks who regularly contribute screenshots and develop a great knowledge of different authors and their works. There are folks who accept the role of admin/mods etc. who may through this role develop a different appreciation of the needs/challenges at Wincustomize. There are some folks who will enjoy the benefits of both experiences. Diversity rocks and all that.......
The thing is to make the different experiences work for the whole, not create a them & us situation that gets in the way.
There's been some useful outcomes, but ultimately it's the community spirit of HG that appears to have enabled the present result, not some 'Daily Orders' that have been passed down from the top floor and allocated roles.
Seems that it's now for the community to see how HG's role can be made supported and made sustainable. Not just so that HG is personally supported, but also because if it's felt that the featuring of a screenshot has value, and the associated role is important, it's future probably shouldn't rely on the good will of one person.

You're right AS. With apologies to you for any misconception and to HG for his wonderful effort! I've been clucking over this matter like a mother hen since last April and well, I just need to calm my nerves is all.
Thanks to you for pulling my coat-tail.

After reading this, all I can say is holy crap!! There was a lot of harsh words and emotion in these posts but there was a lot of good suggestions too. I'm a bit confused though, how come none of it went anywhere, except for HG helping out with submissions, I don't think anything else was implemented? Here's some of the suggestions I found here in this post...
*** Name and function changing to 'Featured Screenshot' or 'Screenshot of the Week/Month'?
*** Possibly removing the ratings and downloads?
*** Everything showing, skinned. No default icons next to a skinned start panel
- At least three SD apps featured
- Bright colors (not too dark) -------(I don't agree with this one, sometmes dark can be more effective)
- Uncluttered . . no need to fill the screen. Less is more
- Listing (and links) of components used
*** If those guidelines were posted on the upload page for screenshots, more people would be aware of them.

Possibly with the advent of the new site just around the corner, some of the ideas contained here might get implemented.

I think that would be a good thing - change is always good for the soul!

Nothing more to add on for this Leo. I for one was not aware of the stipulations for screen shots, but as I've said many times, I've learned a great deal here.
I find this guideline as both satisfactory and fair and I want to thank everyone in this Forum for their input and for the effort it took to make this happen.
