Next time please post some info about what you write. Have no idea what you talking about.
I don't pray becouse its no use doesn't affect people's life in the past nor the future. I feel sorry for the loss off everyone however and hope the system and the humanity once grow up and reallize that taking away people's life is the worse thing ever.

PlanetHope...Next time try watching the news or reading a paper for info...its not a debate whether you pray or not...its about paying respect to those that died senselessly.

I'd stuck an American station on to catch the weather situation on the East coast when this tragedy began to be televised.
I wish all those that need it, the strength to get through the pain of the next few days. I know from experience that eventually, survivors & relatives of those who died, will respond with a dignity that will help your whole Country begin to heal.

my sincerest condolences to all the families affected by this tragedy,
why is it that these types of events seem to be increasing in frequency & devastation?
I wonder what can be done to prevent this type of horror from occurring again in the future?

unclerob, it IS odd that we notice these events more frequently, and they seem to get worse as time goes on. i only hope that we don't have any more of these instances.

Jack : very thoughtful of you to post this thread at this time of shock + horror....I cannot image the depth of anger + alienation that would cause a fellow student to chain doors shut + line up said fellow students up against a wall + execute them as well as the profs attempting to protect or walking into lecture classes opening fire + shooting as many victims as possible at least three times in critical areas...it seems Columbine was a seminal moment + there are psychos amoung us attempting to one up that terrible tragedy...the hurt, anger, angst + torment of family + friends of those poor innocent lives so brutally taken has been in my thoughts since this terrible incident began to unfold yesterday morning + I truly hope those said family + friends find the support, affection, serenity + strength to navigate thru this heartbreaking time

The more this story unfolds...the more disturbed I am....how sad it is for someone dangerously broken and deeply disturbed to devastate so many innocent lives...May God help us all and enable us to stop things such as this from happening again...i have been brought to tears

Some of the issues to consider in preventing the repeat of this horror:
Virginia laws allow any state resident over 18 to buy a firearm, including assault weapons, if they pass a check of any possible criminal background against state and federal databases.
Buying and owning a gun in Virginia does not require a permit, but without a gun permit only one handgun purchase per month is allowed, and there is no waiting period to acquire the gun.
The state maintains "no restriction on the sale or possession of rapid-fire ammunition magazines that can fire up to 100 bullets without reloading."
The law is broad enough to allow people to buy assault guns and magazines without limit such as AK-47s and Uzis, the Brady report points out on its website.

Just as with terrorism...you can never stop something like this from happening. When someone snaps and decides thats they are going to take the course of violence...thats it. Pondering this question of how to stop something like this from happening is an exercise in futility. Gun laws are not going to stop it from happening either......criminals do not respect gun laws...only the law abiding citizen does. If a criminal wants a gun he is going to get it...period. The only thing you can do is grieve for the people who have been subjected to the violence and be glad it wasn't you.
And I get tired of hearing that "he was a loner"...as though this is a prerequisite or character flaw that causes violence. I consider myself a loner with tons of grievances but I have no desire to go out and kill innocent people because of it. Everybody has a bad day...tomorrow is a new one. Whenever I feel I'm having a bad day, I think about people that are having a bad life that are still plugging away to try and make it better. Right now...in some part of the world...I guarantee you there is someone suffering much worse that would trade places with you in a heartbeat.
