A sad tragedy. I hope everyone gets through it in their own way.
Teaching kids at a young age all about the feelings and emotions they will experience as they grow will help to stop this sort of stuff. As is now, kids are shielded from bad emotions UNTIL they experience them on their own and then it is sometimes too late for damage control. I have never understood why kids are not taught love, anger, hate, jealousy, etc.

One problem is that we have kids raising kids that never learned love, compassion, self esteem and empathy and respect. If people were left alone to discipline they're children without the threat of lawsuits things would start to change for the better. When they started calling discipline...child abuse...everything went to hell. And then you are blamed if your child goes out and commits a crime because you didn't discipline them...damned if you do...damned if you don't.
People really need to start speaking out LOUDER to our idiot government officials and tell them to stop putting the handcuffs on all responsible law abiding citizens for discipling they're children, just because one or a few went to far over the line or because some special interest group got together and decided they know whats best for everyone and the government official is afraid of losing votes if he stands up to them. The government is not in the child rearing business...parents are...and they should be left to do just that.

since we're on the topic of guns, why is it so easy to procure a firearm? It's an interesting debate to be sure and I would like to hear more opinions on this issue.
It would seem that crimes of this nature are increasing in frequency, and yet there are no apparent restrictions on the purchase of these items. Yes I've heard of the common remark that guns don't kill people, people kill people. We're ultimately responsible for our own actions but being part of the human race would make us ultimately responsible for everyone & everything on this planet. Alot of people are mature enough to handle the responsibility of owning a firearm (for the purpose of recreation, hunting, protection) but there are just as many people that are not mature or stable enough for that responsibility and it would seem to me that this same group of people may even outnumber those that are responsible. When do you finally say enough is enough and remove firearms from the picture? And if you can't do that why can't laws be enacted that make it difficult to own a gun, limit gun purchases (limiting purchases to 1 gun per month seems a little ineffective), place vigorous procedures in place that make owning a gun a serious responsibility with improved firearm registration, licensing & testing procedures, annual & bi-annual license renewals in conjunction with safety testing. Make it a chore for people to own these items so that only those that are serious enough about it will continue with it. When do we finally stand up & say that we value all of our freedoms but we must value the freedom of living safely with our families and with each other over the freedom of owning a gun? Is it human nature to destroy ourselves & the environment we live in? It is just so sad to hear about these people who were killed and how their families have been tragically hurt by these events, I wish there was more that we could do to stop these senseless acts from happening in the first place.

Front page of the local winnipeg paper (canada) was titled "My baby didn't make it", a quote taken from parents of one of the shooting victims. I have children myself and it scares to me think that this is the world they're growing up in. Did events like this ever happen in the 40's,50's,60's? When did this horrific trend start? Apparently this was the deadliest mass shooting in US history to date until the next copycat tries to out do this event, it just makes me sick to think of it and I can't get the imagery out of my head.

May we all take a breath and wispier sorrows to all those affected,
May we all look at the sight of a sunrise and imagine those souls being lifted to heaven,

Guns Do Not Kill People....People Kill People It is so easy to place the blame on an inanimate object rather that face the facts that too many young adults are growing up in a world that doesn't care enough to ensure that they learn love, compassion, self esteem and empathy before they are thrown into an unforgiving world and expected to know how to cope.
And what ever happened to a village raising the children. This disturbed young man had issues long before this.
