I always wonder how these measurements came about, or how reliable they are. After all, how many times have we actually been to Mars?
Fact is that even on Earth, measurements by satellites that measured the temperature in different layers of the Earths atmosphere were found to be faulty and had to be corrected recently. A recent documentary on British TV conveniently used the old dataset to rebuke the human influence on climate. They also used a faulty set of graphs showing the correlation of solar activity with global warming. I could go on listing the errors and faults of this "documentary" starting with the so called "scientists" (most of which are not climate scientists, but several are on the payroll of Exxon. How convenient).
The topic of global warming is of course heavily discussed within the scientific community, and there is so much we still don't understand about the complex system that is earth. However, the general tune is:
Yes, global warming is connected to solar activity to a certain degree. However, during the last decades, global warming has increased the levels expected due to solar influence (as solar influence is included in the models). It would have done so much earlier (during the 60-80s) if mankind wouldn't have at the same time produced huge amounts of sulphate aerosols which by themselves were not only responsible for "acid rain" but also change the reflectivity of the clouds, in fact making them more reflective so that during this time more heat was reflected back into space, effectively counteracting global warming. Since the mid 80ies the release of these aerosols into the atmosphere is heavily regulated and the rate of global warming has increased.
And that is the main problem: It is not about the fact that global warming happens, it is about the rate at which it happens. Even though mankind does not cause global warming by itself, we accelerate it! And it is due to this acceleration that many of the planets ecosystems (including the worlds coral reefs) have no time to adapt to the rapidly changing environment.
How easy it would be for us to just to blame the sun, and not think about our own impact on the environment......

debates about the environment have the same characteristics as a religious debate. Personally I agree with Koasati but after listening to the high priest of the greenhouse effect, David Suzuki, I'm convinced the greenies aren't interested in facts or scientific debate. That's why I equate the whole topic with religious debate. Just my opinion of course.

Aren't cows supposed to be a major factor in "global warming"? How many cows are there in the world? Just so we can eat hamburgers and filet, and sit in our cars on leather? They're really big, each of them, with four(4) stomachs, and produce a horrendous amount of methane. What if they all farted at once? It might be the end of the world as we know it! Let's just stop having cows. Don't have a cow, man!

Let's not turn into Chicken Little when it comes to 'Global Warming'. Do some research, read what you can, don't just believe something that is thrust in your face like all this 'Global Warming' propoganda. This subject falls in the number two slot on my top 5 list of stupid things about the human race that astound me.

Oh no, a global warming debate.
Speaking as an American, I don't really care about global warming. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're all thinking, but hear me out. The United States' economy is entirely dependent on oil and the politics of the Middle East. The most important thing we can do right now is diversify our energy, and use a domestic or renewable energy source. As it turns out, the best candidates for this are clean and environmentally friendly, such as wind, solar, nuclear and clean coal. America has enough coal to last 60 years or more, and joined with the other sources I listed, as well as conservation and increased energy efficiency, we can stop supporting awful regimes like the Saudis, and have a more human-rights oriented approach to the Middle East.
So by switching our primary energy sources from oil and dirty coal, we can reduce pollution, possibly reduce the effects of global warming, and allow us to quit interfering in the Middle East. So while the jury is out on global warming (to some people anyway), we can motivate ourselves to solve that problem, while solving a bunch of others. I'd say more Americans are concerned with politics and conflicts originating in the Middle East than global warming, so energy diversification is a great way to bring all people together.

And this so called 'consensus' among those "experts", is just more hype. As Roy Spencer, Senior Scientist for Climate Studies at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (1984 -2001) puts it, "science isn't subject to a vote.
Even the founder of Green Peace has moved to the side of reason.
Consider this...... 1000 years ago, the Vikings didn't name the island GREENLAND because it was covered with ice. Why is is covered in ice now? Because of a global cooling cycle, and now the earth is in a warming trend.

true, thats because they are usually made by politicians who have no background in science what so ever and have no clue about what is going on at all. All that politicians (righties and greenies) care for is to further their own gain. In order to do that they (again, BOTH sides) use populistic phrases and half-truths.
Methane is one of the gases involved in Greenhouse effects and cows produce a whole lot of it. However, cows are not (and were never) considered "a major factor" in global warming even though stocks have increased dramatically in recent decades. Their methane contribution is however an additional (if small) factor to the buildup of greenhouse gases in the earths atmosphere.
Exactly, not just the US, all industrialized countries are. What harm can there be in swapping to renewable energy sources?? Solves several problems at once, but it needs a change in thinking and our will to do that.
I haven't seen the Gore movie, but I can imagine what it must be like. See the above point on politician talking about things they have no clue about.....

Even then it was only the south tip of Greenland that was considered to be covered by lush grass (no one knows that exactly, another story is that Erik the Red named the un-inhabited Island he found Greenland in order to attract settlers). The problem we face today is that we put huge amounts of gases into the atmosphere which retain the heat, thus accelerating natural causes of heating. Whether this will cause major problems in the future, or whether this problem will solve itself... no one can say.
It is a mute point anyway as we should take the possibility that it could cause problems in the future to at least think about our influence on our environment and on what legacy we will leave to our children and grandchildren.

Let me give an example of what sort of 'truth' this movie is about..........
The Aral Sea, once the fourth largest in the world is only 25% of it's former size. Gore's film implies that global warming is the cause. No mention is made of the fact that the former Soviet Union diverted the rivers that once fed it.
Gore is so concerned with the raising temperature, that he wants us all to change the way we live, but he isn't willing to join us. ONE of his mansions uses 20 times the electricity of the average home in the US. He flies all over the world to attend conferences. I don't know, but it seems to me he could use the internet ....... you know, the internet he invented.
And speaking of "greenhouse gases". Humans produce not even 1% of the carbon dioxide, and other nasty stuff emitted by the volcanoes of the world.
Anyone know what the most abundant "greenhouse gas" is?
......................Water vapor.
