Paying for individual WB's
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 by garsgolfer | Discussion: WindowBlinds
I've been wondering about the thoughts and experiences of others regarding paying for individual WB skins. Are you finding aspects of the skins not skinning properly or as expected? And, why is there no download/purchase stats being posted per skin, as there are with all others?
Seems even the best skinners struggle with building perfect skins. The one I am using now is named "StealthOS", a great skin, and IMO by one of the best skinners, yet, the start panel text "Turn off Computer" falls off the panel, while 2 of his other skins appear as they should.
So far, only a few appear to properly skin all aspects of the applications I run; like Sean Grey's "Digital Grey." However, that same skin becomes annoying as my mouse passes over the text on the Start-menu panel because all listings highlight. His "Chocolate", which is a great skin, however it to has problems with text falling off the start panel, and those things shouldn't happen. Other skins fail to skin check boxes, eliminating the check box choice altogether making the skin worthless in a few applications.
Even though these problems seems sporadic per skin, I seldom find the perfectly complete skin. I just downloaded Stardocks "Stargate SG-1" skin to find it's "Turn off Computer" is almost non-existent, I deleted it.
No disrespect meant to hardworking skinners, cause many do a good job. But, I just won't pay for an unfinished product, no matter what it is.

Read 'A Complete Guide to the Start Panel: Pt 2' and see section #5
WWW Link
Hope that helps explain that part at least.

The hibernate button will only be shown on machines where the hibernation option is enabled, I don't enable hibernation on my machines and therefore I won't see it. If you have hibernation enabled on your machine, you may see a hibernation button.

As a business owner, 100% of the hardware PO's I sign are for laptops and it's been that way for sometime due to the staff mobility. That's true as well with many of our software vendor clients; not so with IT staff of course.
But, here it appears as though many skinners are working on desktops... are there special reasons for that choice "anybody?"
To Admin... why did you remove the email address I posted? Are profiles open for public viewing and are these forums made public? The only reason I posted his email was it's listed openly on his profile; otherwise, I know better.

Good luck with your search for a perfect skin. Its common etiquette not to post peoples email's on public forums, and probably against the rules too.

spambots aren't your friend

I know that - but you kept asking and your email was posted openly on your profile?

I didnt ask you to post my email. and as far as waiting.. you thanked the person that posted after me so your explanation holds no water.
Look, doesn't really matter to me..Im not one for trolling and you don't have to get defensive and explanitory.
Glad I could help you.
Ciao.

If a person has his email accessible on the site it remains something he personally is in control of. [yes, I know...bad grammar].
If, however it's posted eslewhere...eg on the forum...by a third party...it's something outside his control...and becomes an issue addressible only by an Admin, hence its removal....

However, as you can see the the problem is the buttons, in THIS particularly designed logoff panel just wont fit.. even if I moved the content margins over some the Undock button would be floading in empty space and covering up the Skinbrandz image.
If you would like to know how to fix it..for your own personal use..or any other theme giving you this same problem.. just cut and paste the gold part of the menu to go all the way across to the left. Then, adjust the left and right content margins for the Start Panel > Bottom bar image to the left until all the buttons fit on the panel. Simple as that.
As said previously , in designing Windowblinds that are more artistic in nature, more outside the dafault shapes of XP then sometimes sacrifices have to be made in other areas to accomodate it. The undock button is by no means the only area of windows that suffers for the sake of artistic license.
I will keep this issue in mind in newer themes though now that I'm aware of it.
Hope this helped you.
