Paying for individual WB's

Wednesday, March 14, 2007 by garsgolfer | Discussion: WindowBlinds

I've been wondering about the thoughts and experiences of others regarding paying for individual WB skins. Are you finding aspects of the skins not skinning properly or as expected? And, why is there no download/purchase stats being posted per skin, as there are with all others?

Seems even the best skinners struggle with building perfect skins. The one I am using now is named "StealthOS", a great skin, and IMO by one of the best skinners, yet, the start panel text "Turn off Computer" falls off the panel, while 2 of his other skins appear as they should.

So far, only a few appear to properly skin all aspects of the applications I run; like Sean Grey's "Digital Grey."  However, that same skin becomes annoying as my mouse passes over the text on the Start-menu panel because all listings highlight. His "Chocolate", which is a great skin, however it to has problems with text falling off the start panel, and those things shouldn't happen.  Other skins fail to skin check boxes, eliminating the check box choice altogether making the skin worthless in a few applications.

Even though these problems seems sporadic per skin, I seldom find the perfectly complete skin.  I just downloaded Stardocks "Stargate SG-1" skin to find it's "Turn off Computer" is almost non-existent, I  deleted it.

No disrespect meant to hardworking skinners, cause many do a good job. But, I just won't pay for an unfinished product, no matter what it is.

Or he just needs to tweak them in SKS to suit his requirements.

Reducing the log off and turn off computer buttons to 1 pixel wide will gain you some valuable real estate. The buttons are redundant anyways as they are ......redundant.

Thats the method I endorse.

I used StealthOS for a long, long time and never had any issues with it. I'd have to say if you're having the same problem with multiple skins from multiple authors, it's on your end.

You apparently didn't read my OP; and think if it works on your system, and not on others, then their system is the problem... LOL - all that deserves is....

I can run Ecliz_Deluxe 2, Edisso, Arrow, Rusty Rooster, Dynyx, and DogmaX4 with no problems. On the other hand, Thallos, Aura, Ares, Digital Grey and Chocolate and others have various problems not showing the turn off computer buttons properly. And, as stated Digital Grey (which I really like) hasn't a problem with the buttons, but does have a mouse hover problem on the start menue big time.

Or he just needs to tweak them in SKS to suit his requirements

Brainiac and night train seem constructive in that they are thinking of possible solutions.

I have skin studio Pro; what and specifically where can I tweak?

I did read, and as I read I notice that a few people mentioned the third button for laptops. You said yourself that you have an undock button right? That's what's messing up the skin, and it's on your system, so my original post stands.

How am I suppose to know who you are or where to post to you. And, don't talk to me like I am technically incompetent or naive; I founded a front-end software consulting company back in the early 80's and wrote two commercially marketed vertical applications that have been marketed on three continents since

big whoop. Is it your company that's 23 years old or you. If it's you that's 23 then you must have been a freaking genius to start a company when you were a toddler. You're so technically competent yet you couldn't figure out where to post. Most people would be willing to help if you weren't such an ass, and even after being an ass, people still helped you. Kudo's to them. Grow up.

Btw....anybody uphere know how non-network desktop computer could simulate the "undock" buttons on start menu and "hibernation" button on the logoff/shutdown screen? This would help us skinner to design this two part more properly. If we cant see em we can really design it properly..

And a suggestion for Skinstudios to include these two buttons in the skinstudios preview panel as an option...

Perhaps you can try one more time or post it here using Imageshack or Photobucket.

Guys, let's be real careful here not to be attacking other members.  There is a good discussion here that can lead to system improvements if we let it.

If someone is being a rude ass, maybe it's better not to feed the troll. Ya dig?
{and yes, I am aware that I chucked a few peanuts at the troll too.  I was wrong-ish}

So why lie about your age on your profile page? No more from me. You aren't worth it.
