Paying for individual WB's
Wednesday, March 14, 2007 by garsgolfer | Discussion: WindowBlinds
I've been wondering about the thoughts and experiences of others regarding paying for individual WB skins. Are you finding aspects of the skins not skinning properly or as expected? And, why is there no download/purchase stats being posted per skin, as there are with all others?
Seems even the best skinners struggle with building perfect skins. The one I am using now is named "StealthOS", a great skin, and IMO by one of the best skinners, yet, the start panel text "Turn off Computer" falls off the panel, while 2 of his other skins appear as they should.
So far, only a few appear to properly skin all aspects of the applications I run; like Sean Grey's "Digital Grey." However, that same skin becomes annoying as my mouse passes over the text on the Start-menu panel because all listings highlight. His "Chocolate", which is a great skin, however it to has problems with text falling off the start panel, and those things shouldn't happen. Other skins fail to skin check boxes, eliminating the check box choice altogether making the skin worthless in a few applications.
Even though these problems seems sporadic per skin, I seldom find the perfectly complete skin. I just downloaded Stardocks "Stargate SG-1" skin to find it's "Turn off Computer" is almost non-existent, I deleted it.
No disrespect meant to hardworking skinners, cause many do a good job. But, I just won't pay for an unfinished product, no matter what it is.

And you didnt answer my question...are you on a laptop withan undock button?
I am aware it's not Stardocks, that was a typing error. And, yes- there's a undock button. I don't see what that button has to do with anything, unless there are two versions of every skin, one designed for desktops another for laptops.

You started your post talking about Paid skins, then used two free skins as examples. Ergo . . you don't know what you are talking about or you communicate poorly.
You criticised a skin when the issue is probably on your system.
Your tone was poor but people were kind in their responses. Your tone got worse . . .
Maybe there are *more* problems to address on your part beyond your system?

I would check my personal page for contact info and as far as a post goes..umm how about the submission page where you downloaded the skin?
Theres more than one area of adjustment in the start panel, and different bugs can appear on different computers, different OS etc..
I have been made aware of one bug in Sg1 in 1500 downloads.. it was fixed immediately.
I cant begin to fix a problem ur not willing to make an effort to show me, so.. your right..nothing else to say.

Laptops on a network have 3 buttons.
Most laptops have a 4th button on the logoff shutdown screens for hibernation.
Some non-english systems will have more letters for log off/turn off computer and can cramp the space forcing anomolies.
Reducing the log off and turn off computer buttons to 1 pixel wide will gain you some valuable real estate. The buttons are redundant anyways as they are ......redundant.
You can make the start panel wider if the design calls for it.

Mine isn't networked like these other chaps . . . so no. I have "Log off" and "Turn Off Computer".
And I don't have a "Hibernate" button, either . . . I guess I'm just maudlin like that.

I would however be interested in seeing a screen of the issue.
