Is this too dark?

Thursday, March 8, 2007 by vStyler | Discussion: Community

To solve an ongoing discussion with a friend I would like to ask anyone who cares to give their opinion two questions.

1. Can you read the text over the blue BG?

2. Would these menu's be useable in a a WB?

This is an Unskinned menu but the skinned menus are same color combo

A simple yes or no would be preferred please.

Why not make the text white or light gray?

XP is tricky.. some areas u cant change text color, you have to balance all colors in all areas with respect to how its going to affect elements elsewhere. SOme areas of windows and of many apps are hardcoded with Black text.. so basically when putting a WB together you have to balance ur use of colors very carefully.

If folks are seeing it as I do..then they should have no problem. I have to skin as I see it not how other folks see it. I guess its boils down to individual preferences, settings and focal perception. I dont think I or my friend are wrong, Its the old addage , U cant please everyone....short of making a light and a dark version.

It's only hard to read the black writing on my lcd monitor if i view from a very slight angle but face on it's ok it boils down to what you like the rest of us will have to suk it up...lol... or just change the black writing to that turquoise color you have highlighted by the black strip and use that black strip as you have there

Im wondering if its monitor settings

Maybe
or people's eyesight

No
or just preference.

&
No

And I'd have to agree with the turquoise text being better to read. The black almost seems to blend in with the dark blue making it hard to read just glancing at it.

I got alot of time into dark DARK skins V. I'll be around tomorrow if you need a hand.

Part of the problem you will run into is people with laptops. They won't get a balanced contrast on the dark text. It depends on how they have their screen tilted. If they are looking at their screen from above the monitor the text will dissappear sometimes. If they are looking straight at it, they should be fine.

No matter what, it will not be a usable skin for everyday use unless the user is accustomed to really dark skins. I made a skin so dark and neon, I had to get glasses after getting half way through it.

Question 1: No-I am on my laptop right now. It is still hard to read on my PC as well.

Question 2: yes, if there was more contrast with the text.

I find it troubling that many people have answered that they cannot read the text.

Its black over almost mid blue. Your serious you really cant read it??

I can understand it may not be useable to some of you but to say you cant make out what the letters say ..to me.. seems..

That aside , I have decided to use Black menus with neon colored text.
